UPDATE!!! - First Thoughts, Pros and Cons
UPDATE!! - April 20th, 2017So after having used this watch for about ten days I have to say that I am absolutely in love with it. One of my biggest concerns was battery life, but having used it continuously, having it connected to my phone and having gone on 4 mile runs every day for the last 10 days, the battery is still at 41%. I am astounded with how well this watch had molded into my every day life. The smart phone notifications are awesome, the GPS is crazy accurate and the heart rate monitor (which I thought was stupid at first) is a pretty cool addition, and I have found to be accurate to within a beat or two per min. I will update again once my watch has finally died but it has exceeded my expectations so far.----------------------------------------------- Initial Review ---------------------------------------First thoughts -Right out of the box I have to say this watch is a looker. The simplistic, sleek design of the bezel combines with the sharp edges and tough looks of the straps and the overall shape. On looks alone I would give this watch a 9/10. If any of you have the Fenix Tactix Bravo (essentially the Fenix 3) then its important to note this watch (the Fenix 5) is just ever so smaller in diameter and thinner as well. I think its a perfect size when it comes to ever day carry type item because my Tactix Bravo was notably large while this watch is right in the goldy lox zone.PROS -The steller looks of the watch is one definite pro. Another is that the main menu interface is allot simpler now and definitely more user friendly. It went from a black and white list that you scrolled through to being a circular menu with each item having its own icon. Another notable difference between the Tactix Bravo and this watch is the LAG. There is no lag at all that I have encountered with the Fenix 5 while the Tactix Bravo has lag that was very noticeable when switching things or scrolling throught items and down lists. This feels more like an actual smart watch and not just another clunky fitness band. A smaller pro is that it comes with a second yellow band which is cool, I don't see myself liking that color but it has one none the less!CONS -Nothing to notable for cons as of yet. The only thing is that Garmin chose to use another proprietary charging cable instead of a micro USB soooo whatever. But aside from that nothing big has come up. I will update this section if something arises.Comments/Battery Test -I will be performing a battery comparison test between the Tactix Bravo watch I have and the Fenix 5 I have. I have charged both to 100% and will see who dies first. As of one day of use, the Fenix 5 is at 97% but it also went with my on a run today. The Tactix Bravo after one day is at 98%. Lets see who wins!
