In the midst of a global manhunt, the leader of the world's largest private army sees his opportunity to upset the international order.

Ian Thomas is supposed to be dead. An international terrorist responsible for the bombing of the US Naval War College, he's been deceased for three years. But Don Riley, head of the CIA’s Emerging Threats Group, is staring at a social media post showing him to be very much alive and on the run in South America.

The video of Thomas sparks a global hunt:

The Americans want to bring him to justice.

The Chinese want him to disappear.

And the Russians want to kill him very, very slowly.

But the world's most powerful nations aren't the only ones pursuing the most wanted man on the planet. The manhunt attracts an uninvited player: Sentinel Holdings, the largest private military contractor in the world. Helmed by ruthless CEO Manson Skelly, Sentinel's lethal capabilities rival those of most countries.

Sensing an opportunity to secure his place as a player on the world stage, Skelly uses his superior tech and global assets to insert himself into the chase...with catastrophic results.

Now, Skelly has decided that the international order is up for grabs, and Don Riley will need help from all the wrong places to stop him―before it’s too late.

Threat Axis is the fourth book in an explosive series co-written by former submarine officer David Bruns and retired naval intelligence officer J.R. Olson. Packed with heart-stopping action, ripped from the headlines combat scenes, and page-turning twists, this military techno-thriller is a must-read for fans of Tom Clancy and Mark Greaney.

About the Author

David Bruns earned a Bachelor of Science in Honors English from the United States Naval Academy. (That’s not a typo. He’s probably the only English major you’ll ever meet who took multiple semesters of calculus, physics, chemistry, electrical engineering, naval architecture, and weapons systems just so he could read some Shakespeare. It was totally worth it.) Following six years as a US Navy submarine officer, David spent twenty years in the high-tech private sector. A graduate of the prestigious Clarion West Writers Workshop, he is the author of over twenty novels and dozens of short stories. Today, he co-writes contemporary national security thrillers with retired naval intelligence officer, J.R. Olson.

J.R. Olson graduated from Annapolis in May of 1990 with a BS in History. He served as a naval intelligence officer, retiring in March of 2011 at the rank of commander. His assignments during his 21-year career included duty aboard aircraft carriers and large deck amphibious ships, participation in numerous operations around the world, to include Iraq, Somalia, Bosnia, and Afghanistan, and service in the U.S. Navy in strategic-level Human Intelligence (HUMINT) collection operations as a CIA-trained case officer. J.R. earned an MA in National Security and Strategic Studies at the U.S. Naval War College in 2004, and in August of 2018 he completed a Master of Public Affairs degree at the Humphrey School at the University of Minnesota. Today, J.R. often serves as a visiting lecturer, teaching national security courses in Carleton College’s Department of Political Science, and hosts his radio show, National Security This Week, on KYMN Radio in Northfield, Minnesota.

This is another outstanding book by the Two Navy Guys. There is action all over the world, and there are surprising twists that keep you turning the pages long after your bedtime!! Although each book is a complete story in itself, I can't wait to read the next one!! Gotta love these two authors!!

No cliffhangers and really good background. No gratuitous sex so the story was allowed to stroll along. I liked it a lot.

This duo (J.R. And David) have produced another fantastic read! I’ve followed them intently since the real-life Chip Sharratt introduced me to them several years ago, and devoured each of their books; can’t wait for the next one. Interplay of the characters, real-life scenarios, and the intrigue of politicians and world leaders are so plausible you would swear you could pick up the newspaper tomorrow or hit the web to read about them for real. Another must read!

Let me say up front that I have loved all the previous books these guys have written... But this book didn't seem to have the punch of the previous books. I haven't figured out what it is that I'm missing... Maybe not enough technical wizardry, maybe not enough action... I don't know. Sorry guys, I'm looking forward to the next one.

The ETG and a cast of characters struggle to locate the threat of annihilation. A traitor has the keys to WMD, and ETG’s most useful asset is unavailable and downright contrary. And sometimes your worst enemy becomes your ally, not out of convenience, but of necessity.

Great read, and the motivations and actions of the protagonists switch as quickly as a new problem presents. Enjoy this action-packed but thoughtful take on sin and redemption in the geo-political world.

Another excellent storyline following the exploits of Don Riley and his team who are trying to stop another world war breaking out,Don has to make sense of what is happening in the middle of an ongoing crisis which involves missing nuclear weapons and ultimately trying to prevent them being used by a deranged madman. The only way to prevent a disaster is for him to involve an Israeli spy and the most sought after terrorist in the world to prevent the end of the world by nuclear war.

5.0 out of 5 stars Master class in action writing
Reviewed in Australia on May 17, 2023
The continued thread of the characters and narrative makes this book series enjoyable. This book, like the preceding ones, is well written and researched with a good pace of activity and developments, making it an efficient read without boring superfluous passages to skim over like so many other contemporary “action thrillers”. Although this book can be read as a stand-alone, it is recommended to read them in chronological order to better understand referenced past events. Olsen and Bruns again produced an excellent package and I am looking forward to the next instalment in 10 months time, which is a long wait.

5.0 out of 5 stars What an excellent read. I was unable to put it down once I started.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 19, 2023
What a great read. I enjoyed every minute of this book. It was fast paced with a good storyline to back it up. The last book encompassed the war in Ukraine. Given the present state of brinkmanship between super powers this book is so relevant. Exciting, plenty of action and a fast paced story. Well done.
