How to Make Sure the Drives is not Short-Circuit

How to Make Sure the Drives is not Short-Circuit

A shorted driver is installed on the motherboard and may cause the burning of the motherboard. Please make sure that drives you received are not short-circuited.

  1. Turn the multimeter to the buzzer position, connect the positive test lead to VM, and the negative test lead to GND to check if there is a short circuit, and next use the same way to test if there is a short circuit between VCC and GND. Then make sure there is no short circuit before plugging into the motherboard.
  2. Second, When inserting drivers on the main board, please figure out the direction is right, pay attention that the EN pin of the driver corresponds to the EN pin of the main board.
  3. Before turning on powering, first check if there is a short circuit between 24V and GND, +5V and GND, and 3.3V and GND.
  4. If everything is going well then connect power with your printer and enjoy your printing.

i3 Mega - How to fix if you bought UART by mistake
I have an old i3 Mega that I'm breathing new life into and decided to do the upgrades on the drivers. I was always hesitant because of conflicting procedures and settings posted but finally took the dive. I bought the TMC2208 v3 UART drivers then realized they were the wrong ones I should have purchased the STEP/DIR ones even though they are not software configurable. Well the issue came with de-soldering the jumpers on each driver to take them out of UART mode or send them back for the right ones. It occurred to me I had read you could just remove pins 3,4 & 5 instead of de-soldering them... being lazy and knowing fully well it would void any warranty I went for it. Set the Vref at .95 on them all. I didn't physically reverse the pins to the stepper motors and instead opted to use the Marlin software upgrade that has the pin reversal in the code. Like having a new printer! The drivers are great and work perfectly. Between them and the Marlin software it has made a huge jump in print quality and got rid of the noise along with the steppers getting hot. Definitely worth the upgrade on an Anycubic i3 Mega just make sure you get the STEP/DIR ones or be prepared to do a lot of additional work on your board and coding.
