The VideoMic NTG is extremely flexible, with an array of tools and features to help you take on any recording situation. Digital switching gives you access to a high-pass filter, -20dB pad, high frequency boost, and safety channel, plus there is a unique infinitely variable gain control to precisely tailor the output as you need. Stay away, unless you're a professional videographer
I've just spent the last two hours trying to get this joke of a microphone to work with my iphone 15 pro max.Does it just 'work'? Nope. First you have to plug it into your computer to download the firmware. Fine, whatever. But there are also not one but two iOS apps to download. Again, whatever. But apparently the RodeCentral app doesn't recognize the microphone (so what's the point of the app?). The Rode reporter app does, but I need to record video with audio, not just audio. And the gain is so jacked up that it all comes out sounding like fuzz.$250 microphone that sounds worse than the built-in mic on my phone. I'm sure if I were a professional videographer I'd just know all the right levels to adjust, but that's why I bought the expensive one - it's supposed to just work, not sound like absolute crap unless you're the engineer who built it.Oh, and the receiver for mounting is too big for literally all the other mounts I own. Phone, lights, cameras - they all seem to take a standard thread size. This mic is bigger. Again, I'm sure the 'pros' must use this bigger size, but I've bought thousands of dollars worth of equipment, and haven't had this sizing problem with anything else. This is the second Rode shotgun mic I've bought. There won't be a third. I'm doing to find a brand that will make my life easier, not harder. How about Rode try to make something that 'just works'!

You can't really go wrong with Rode. I swapped out my VideoMic Pro+ for this NTG option, and I've enjoyed the upgrade in audio! I do a lot of run-and-gun documentary work, so having an on-camera mic that can capture usable audio is crucial! I'd suggest bringing down the gain on your camera and upping the gain on the mic for the best results (in my experience). The shock mount seems to do a pretty good job of avoiding the noise of the mic moving around, so that's a plus. I just wish that the shock mount was black, not red.
