Trusted by Today’s Most Well Known Artists

World-renowned and up-coming artists alike are using Speedball Underglazes exclusively due to their incredible performance, value and versatility.

Ideal for detailed painting, sgraffito decoration, watercolor effects, free brush painting, screen printing and mashima decoration, the opaque underglazes are designed to perform in a wide firing range, Cone 05 – 6, and have been successfully fired to Cone 10.

Create Depth & Character

Speedball Underglazes can be used to create designs and patterns that will come through the glaze covering them, allowing for more visual depth and character. Although they are often used under clear glazes, they can also be used under other, generally light-colored, transparent glazes.

In the Studio

Speedball Underglazes can be applied to greenware and bisqueware. Colors will not move or flow during firing. For best results, apply 3 liberal coats and use with Speedball Earthenware or Stoneware Clear Glaze.

All colors are dinnerware safe when used and fired as directed, are lead-free and carry the AP Seal.

    Amazing at cone 10

    Amazing at cone 10
Bought them for my college class that fires at cone 10, really expecting the colors to turn out dull, but was pleasantly surprised by how bright and vibrant it turned out! Only issue is that orange and especially brown are very chunky and difficult to use. (For the image: my college doesn’t have a completely clear glaze)

5.0 out of 5 stars Vibrant colors at cone 6
Reviewed in the United States on November 7, 2019
I’m very happy with these underglazes. I was a little concerned about color fading at cone 6 as the pictures only show up to cone 5, but they’re more vibrant than I had hoped. They blend easily and well. Photo shows before and after, using individual colors alone and mixed to get intermediate colors. With a clear glaze on top, the colors really pop.

I highly recommend these. They work well, give great color, and are very affordable.
