Every senior trying to use this phone will expect the speakerphone to work like every other speakerphone and will become angry and confused by this damaged design.
Never buy this for a senior expecting a normal phone.
Tech support will lie to you about the microphone and pretend it's not supposed to work. This is just a joke for them.
Top reviews from other countries
It is great for seniors with poor eyesight who calls the same people regularily.
A worthwhile purchase for anyone who might have difficulty with a normal telephone.
Petr E.
I would not necessarily recommend this product for the following reasons:
1) The ringer volume on the highest setting is not very loud. (My regular phone can ring louder on the max setting). The tone of the ring is high-pitched, which is not good for those who are hard of hearing. The lower the tone, the better/easier it will be heard.
2) There are two parts to this complaint.
A)The handset volume is consistently set on the 3rd setting. If you want it louder it is quite a jump to the 4th (highest) setting. You might call this 4th setting 'boost'. While it is great volume for those that need it, the problem is that it only lasts for that call. Once the handset is hung up, the volume resets to setting 3. With each and every call, you have to 'boost' the volume to the max #4 setting. This makes the phone rather difficult for those who are elderly, with memory problems, or fumbling arthritic fingers.
B) This handset volume feature is a button on the front of the phone--that can easily be pushed accidentally--rather than a switch on the side. Not very good.
3) The Photo dial feature can be confusion to some elderly/dementia people. It's not just as simple as picking up the handset and pushing the picture--that would have been great! Unfortunately there's a third step involved--you also have to push the 'dial' button. This may be simple for some people, but to advertise this as perfect phone for dementia-type people is a bit misleading. My grandmother has dementia (mild to severe). If it were simply picking up the handset and hitting the picture it would be no problem. But to throw in this third step does make it a problem, and therefore useless.
It needs to be as simple as possible. Pushing buttons and adjusting volume each call does not make the phone simple to use.
To top things off, the phone I received came in an opened, damaged box that looked like it had been beaten and battered around long before it was ever put in the bubble envelope to send to me. As a result, the phone was defective--there was a loud hum that distracted from the phone conversation, and voices were not coming through clear at all but quite muffled. I tested this on multiple jacks in my house. The one I called to test the phone also used both his cell phone and his regular landline to test the hum and the muffled voice out.
While I don't expect that everyone who orders this phone will get a battered defective one like I did, I would not recommend it based on my previous points.
I hope this review helps--and wish you and your loved ones the best in this unfortunate aging process!
