Publisher's summary

Divorced mother Chantilly Adair didn’t take the job as the head of the Castleberry Georgia Historical Society because she thought it would be easy, in fact, she felt the exact opposite, and that suited her just fine. Desperate to get away from Birmingham and her ex-husband, she took her pre-teen son and high-tailed it straight to her childhood home in Castleberry, Georgia, and the echoes of her recently deceased parents.

A tumble down a flight of stairs and causing a bump on the head hasn’t hindered Chantilly from rehabbing the historical presence in town, but finding the dead body of the town’s BBQ king just days before the annual BBQ competition puts her right in the local detective’s hot seat.

When the spirit rumored to be haunting the dead man’s restaurant appears, Chantilly’s not sure which is worse, being accused of murder, or claiming a spirit might have had something to do with it.

Now Chantilly must save herself from a life behind bars or a stay in the psychiatric ward, and still get the competition going on time.

If you like Southern or paranormal cozy mysteries, you’ll love this first book in the Chantilly Adair Psychic Medium Cozy Mystery Series.

A great start to a new series

Carolyn Ridder Aspenson has a storyline that is a great start to a new series. The characters were well crafted and the story was believable, as far as cozy paranormal a can be.

Just What I Needed

Setting the Scene: Chantilly Adair returned to her small hometown in Georgia after her parents' deaths and her husband of 20 years runs off with another woman. She and her son are settling in, but after falling and hitting her head, Chantilly sees and hears "things" she cannot explain. Okay, she hears and sees ghosts. This will take some getting used to, and who is going to believe it? Then there are the murders. One happened more than 100 years ago, and one just happened. Unfortunately, Chantilly becomes the prime suspect in the latter.

What I Thought: I have read other series by Carolyn Ridder Aspenson, but this one took me by surprise. It is a delightfully funny, cozy mystery. I love Chantilly, her job as Director of the Historical Society, her job as mother to her 12 year old LaCrosse playing son, and her multigenerational friendships. Those friends are the source of so much humor. I found myself repeatedly laughing out loud at Del's and Thelma's antics. The characters are well developed and relatable; and the story and mystery well done. If you are looking for a thoroughly enjoyable mystery, this is for you.

a cute start to a new series

Get Up and Ghost is a heart-warming, laugh out loud, cozy mystery and a cute start to a new series. Ms. Adair is not your average medium! And the secondary characters are a hoot. Del and Thelma remind me of Ouiser and Clairee from Steel Magnolias. This pair steals the show.

The narrator, Lili Dubuque, brought this entertaining story to life, however, as it is set in the South (Georgia) I expected more of a southern drawl from the characters. Olivia was the only truly southern sounding character. That aspect was disappointing but otherwise, I enjoyed it.
