- Fully Customizable Mechanical Keyboard: To build a fully customizable keyboard, we designed every component easily assembled. With full QMK and VIA support, you can easily program and remap each key on the keyboard. The open-source firmware means endless possibilities for keyboard layouts, shortcuts, backlight effects, even the knob, and more.
- Innovative Double Gasket: This Double-Gasket Structure allows the keyboard to maintain the flexibility of the gasket structure and improves the overall typing sound. We added silicone pads between the top and bottom cases to significantly reduce the sound resonance between the metals and reduce the noise of the impacted metals.
- Hot-swappable Support: With the pre-lubed Gateron G Pro mechanical tactile brown switch providing unrivaled tactile responsiveness with up to 50 million keystroke lifespan. You can also hot-swap the Q3 with almost all of the 3pin and 5pin MX mechanical switches on the market (including Cherry, Gateron, Kailh, Panda, etc.) without soldering required. The PCB-mounted screw-in stabilizer for “big keys” such as space bar, shift, enter, and delete are designed for less wobbliness.
- Double-shot PBT Keycaps & South-facing Backlight: The south-facing RGB is designed to better illuminate the keyboard backlight from the typist’s angle with the premium non-shine-through PBT keycaps installed. The PBT keycaps will provide excellent oil resistance, enhance the type feel, and prevent the legends from fading out.

Full Aluminum 80% TKL LayoutThe Q3 is crafted with 6063 aluminum that is processed through CNC machined, polished, anodized, sandblasted, and undergoes 24 more manufacturing stages to make a solid metal art on the desk that is the Q3. |
South-facing RGB BacklightThe south-facing RGB LED is designed to better illuminate the keyboard backlight from the typist’s angle with the premium non-shine-through PBT keycaps installed. The south-facing RGB is also free from interference when the users install OEM or Cherry-profile alternative keycaps on the keyboard. |
Double-shot PBT KeycapsThe Q3 comes with our unique OSA profile (OEM profile with spherical-angle) and double-shot PBT keycaps that aim to provide a more comfortable and subtle fingertip feel with excellent oil resistance for long-term use. |
Double-Gasket Design
This Double-Gasket Structure allows the keyboard to maintain the flexibility of the gasket structure and improves the overall typing sound. We added silicone pads between the top and bottom cases to significantly reduce the sound resonance between the metals and reduce the noise of the impacted metals. Each keyboard component could be reassembled easily. If there is any problem with the keyboard, it can be repaired by reassembling.

All New Screw-In PCB StabilizersThe screw-in design increases stability and makes it easier for changes and upgrades. Precise craftsmanship makes the stabilizers more stable and less wobbly. The big keys’ typing experience is now more stable and smooth. The Keychron Q3 also supports third-party stabilizers including Cherry or Durock. |
Pre-lubed Gateron G Pro SwitchThe pre-lubed Gateron G Pro mechanical switches come with an optimized mold with more precise positioning, and less wobbliness will certainly improve your fingertip feel. The Gateron switch is durable enough with an unrivaled tactile responsiveness on the tactile brown switch and up to 50 million keystroke lifespan. |

I did some tryouts of various offerings from Logitech and Razer. I tried a SteelSeries with optical mechanical switches. I just wasn't impressed with them and I didn't want more software to control the keyboard. But I did some digging and found this brand, which I hadn't heard of before, and after extensive reviews, I tried it out. Rtings.com has this one highly rated. It seems for good reason.
I moved from Cherry MX Browns to the Brown Pro's. And OMG. The difference was unreal.
I expected a lateral shift, not an upgrade. These keys are outstanding. The metal frame makes this thing heavy enough to be worth at least a 1d6 hit die. The pads that absorb the strikes on the keys help manage to reduce noise, while making it feel so responsive.
I play LoL, AOE2, PUBG, CoD, StarField, BG3, TLOU - most games out there. This was perfect for them all. For kicks and giggles, I bought some Blues from Keychron to swap out since the I wanted to try the clicky keys. They were great for typing, but the Browns were better suited for gaming, as suggested. While I ended up switching back to the browns, I was agast at how easy it was to swap the switches. I had the whole keyboard swapped during an episode of Arrested Development.
The software that controls it is open source which means you don't have yet another piece of software trying to load on start up and confidence the software isn't doing more than it should. Open Edge, navigate to the VIA site, modify your settings, and then close Edge. Perfect. Simplicity at its finest.
The sharp colors are reminiscent of keyboards from the 90's, with the TKL design giving me more space for my mouse during gameplay, especially in lower DPI situations, like sniping in PUBG.
The cost is steep. But I absolutely feel I have a premium quality product that will certainly last a very long time. The extensive compatibility, access to open source software, and easy work for swapping keys or key caps, makes me feel like I have a keyboard that can vastly outlast my Logitech.
The difference between them was frustrating and as often as I game, I found myself sad I didn't switch to this keyboard as soon as it came out. A frustratingly great keyboard.
10/10 would recommend if it's in your budget - I purchased a second one for my work computer because I like typing on this thing so much.
Not disappointed! I ordered with brown switches, and enjoyed the smoothness they gave, but I’ve always loved the feel and frankly the racket of the old buckling-spring PC/AT style from the ‘70s and ‘80s, so I ordered some blue switches, since they are reputed to be good and clicky without going overboard.
Pulling the key caps and especially the switches took some figuring out, but you eventually get the hang of it. The keyboard-included switch puller was better than the one that came with the switches, for my money. Putting in the new switches also took a few false starts, but again, this isn’t brain surgery.
And now I’ve got that beautiful buckling spring pop and thock that I was looking for! I may eventually order some new caps, but for now the ones that came with mine are the right blend of visual distinction and elegant understatement.
I’m also a fan of the knob! I didn’t think I’d care for it, but having a twist volume control right in front of me instead of a Fn-key combo has been addictive.
But after I installed some Gateron Oil Kings, I found that some of the switches weren't working. I found this odd, as they all worked in another board. Upon further investigation, I noticed that the PCB was warped. Due to that warp, the Oil Kings in certain spots were not making good contact with the sockets, because their metal contacts are slightly shorter than the included Cherry MX Reds. That was REALLY disappointing to me. But I have a lot of respect for Keychron. I have 3 Keychron boards, and I love that Keychron doesn't push some stupid custom keyboard software (bloatware) like so many other brands. QMK/VIA is the way to go. So I wanted to see if I could fix the board myself, without costing Keychron anything.
I suspended the PCB from its edges and laid a small flashlight in a nylon case over the warp in the board. It seems to have straightened out after about a week of sitting there like that. But I haven't tried it out yet. I'll update this review when I do. If I have problems, I will drop the rating to 2 or 3 stars. If it goes well, I'll keep the rating at 4 stars.
Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2022
- Keyboard came in an opened box, unpacked - not in the protective cover
- Keyboard came dirty; it looked preowned or sat out in the open with water and dirt on the frame- no permanent damange
- Keyboard came with keys detached - no permanent damage
- Missing key puller
- Some keys double up for a single press (worst problem)
My purpose for writing this review is to warn others that paying full price for opened, potentially pre-owned keybaords. If I had to do this again I would buy direct from Keychron.
Very disappointed
