About Vetoquinol
Vetoquinol was the early pioneer of using Lysine as a food supplement to support the immune, eye and respiratory health of cats and kittens. As a result, Viralys has been the trusted brand of Lysine for felines for more than a decade. We’re a proud member of the National Animal Supplement Council (NASC), one of only a hundred animal supplement companies (out of thousands) to be so.

Whether your cat is fussy and won't eat chews or take tablets, or she'll happily eat anything, our powdered Viralys L-Lysine daily supplement for cats is the ideal supplement. We’ve specially formulated Viralys for cats and kittens, and pet parents can easily sprinkle the powder over dried food or mix it with canned food. We've added a fishy poultry flavor that your kitty will find irresistible, whatever his age or size. |
Our L-Lysine powder can be safely used with no known side effects for as long as your cat or kitten needs support when used according to directions. We manufacture Viralys right here in North America under strict pharmaceutical guidelines. We're also a proud member of the National Animal Supplement Council (NASC). Regularly audited by third-party groups, we stick to the highest standards of quality to ensure your pet receives the safest supplements possible. |
Viralys contains L-Lysine, which has been shown to help manage the symptoms of upper respiratory infections including sneezing, squinting, watery or inflamed eyes, conjunctivitis, a runny nose and/or nasal congestion. All of these conditions are typically responsive to L-Lysine, and we recommend using Viralys to manage your cat's symptoms until they clear up. |
What if my cat doesn't like taking a powdered supplement?
Because we understand that all cats are different, we’ve developed five different Lysine food supplement products. Each one has been designed with different feline preferences in mind, to make administering Lysine supplements as easy as possible. They all allow you to give the correct Lysine dosage to your furry friend in seconds and can all be safely used for as long as your cat needs them, with no known side effects. They’re also all suitable for cats and kittens of all ages. So whatever the preferences of your cat, there’s a Vetoquinol Lysine supplement that will suit her tastes perfectly!
What is the recommended dose?
The recommended L-Lysine dosage is 500mg twice a day for cats six months and older and 250mg twice a day for kittens under six months. Following package instructions, simply give cats over six months of age one rounded scoop twice daily and kittens under six months of age ½ rounded scoop twice daily. Always follow your veterinarian’s guidelines.
What size tub does Viralys come in?
Our Viralys Lysine powder is available in a 600g tub or a handy 100g tub, ideal if you need to travel with your cat. A single scoop of our Lysine powder provides one 500mg dose. Each 100g tub has approximately 50 doses for cats and 100 doses for kittens. Refer to package directions for dosage guidelines.
I've lost my Viralys scoop, what can I do?
Each tub of Viralys comes with a new scoop. In the meantime, you can use a teaspoon; one rounded teaspoon equals approximately 500mg.
Can I use Viralys on my dog?
Viralys is only suitable for cats and kittens.

Her eyes are constantly irritated. Antibiotics and creams fix it for a bit, but it comes back within 2 weeks of stopping them. Can't keep her on antibiotics all the time. It's just this pesky virus!
I used to use the Viralys gel. And although she accepted it, she got tired of it after a while and it was frustrating trying to chase her down twice a day to give it to her. But the lysine really does seem to help. It hasn't completely fixed the issue, but it's the best thing I've tried so far. And it really alleviates her itchy, runny eyes a lot!
Trouble was, she will only eat dried food, so it would've been impossible to mix the gel in with it. So what I do is to mist the dry food with a water bottle (just a gentle misting will do) and I sprinkle this on it. Then I mix it around in her bowl to get it to stick evenly to the dry food. I feed her once a day with enough dry food for the day (she's a nibbler and eats a little at a time throughout the day). I coat the food with 2 scoops of this. In the beginning I ground it up with a mortal and pestle because I was afraid she would lick it off. But I'm going to stop that now as I think she's gotten used to it. We have 2 other cats who will only eat wet food. So she does have access to other foods, but she still prefers her dry food with this sprinkled on it.
It's worked out great! She accepts it and I no longer have to chase her around and coax her to take her medicine. And it's A LOT more economical than the gel! I'll definitely be buying some more for her.
If your cat will accept it, the powder is the way to go!
