Roland AX-1 Keytar with CME WIDI Master

Now I can perform right up to the audience using wireless WIDI. Note: Must buy 2 sets. Easy to connect.Large plug goes into Roland Keytar MIDI Controller (MIDI OUT). On the 2nd set Large plug Also goes into (MIDI OUT) of Roland Sound Module. Small plug goes into (MIDI IN) Then Small Plug of WIDI MASTER goes onto large plug of WIDI MASTER

Best for Keytar users!

I recently bought a Roland AX-1B midi controller off Ebay, the classic red keytar from the early 90s. I use to rock out tethered by a midi cable, but who does that anymore, this is 2023! I ended up purchasing two kits, so that the AX-1 would transmit, and used a set for the receiver which is my audio interface. Within 20 seconds the bluetooth paired up...and off to the races I went! I wish they offered this 25 years ago. You can use this on ANY five pin midi device. No real instructions, just plug into correct sides. That is it! Other brands are more complicated. The price is perfect too. Easy on the wallet. Hope this review helps you.

Wireless MiIDI is the way!

I bought a pair of these to try out, because I hate having a midi cable going from my Axe-Fx to my pedalboard, and I was more than pleasantly surprised at how fast they respond. I'm honestly can't feel any latency, even when I use my MIDI pedal to affect parameters in my Axe-FX. I plan on getting a couple more of these and setting up a group so I can sync all of my midi gear up, next.

Greatest invention ever

Okay, so the setup for multiple WIDI Master units being used in the same environment is a little confusing, but it's soooo worth the effort to get through the process that it becomes a non-issue once everything is working. In our band we play to click, and have a MacBook Pro running Ableton for click, video, DMX, MIDI, and a little bit of backing trax. The MacBook sends MIDI to an iConnectivity PlayAudio12 interface, which sends that MIDI info to an iConnectivity MIDI4+. We have three lanes of MIDI in Ableton; two lanes simply load patches for the keyboardist's two keyboards, and one lane controls my Line6 Helix for preset loading and snapshot changes, so I basically never step on the Helix except to work the volume pedal or tune my guitar. The best part of this setup is that the MIDI4+ interface lives near the keyboardist's rig, and with the WIDI Master I no longer have to run a 50' MIDI cable around the drums to my Helix.

We have another WIDI Master for our keyboardist's Keytar, so he can use it as a controller for his two keyboards through the MIDI4+. He says he feels no latency (and he is very sensitive to latency), and he never had a dropout.

I had to learn how to set up the two units so they would only speak to the appropriate "mate", to avoid any crosstalk between our units, and that has also worked flawlessly. I did this with the free app. Though the setup was not exceptionally intuitive, I managed to figure it out.

The gentleman whose review stated that one unit could not "speak" to multiple units is mistaken, but that's probably not his fault, as he is correct about the instructions being a little lacking. We learned this lesson the hard way, when a keyboardist from an opening band who was also using a WIDI Master was triggering (controlling) OUR keyboards as well as his own during a sound check. Best part was that his keyboard was transposed down a half step, so the resulting sound of the two keyboards playing a half step apart from each other was "glorious". Easy fix, we simply unplugged our units until the changeover between bands. The automatic pairing of these units is definitely a blessing when only one unit is in play, but can easily be a curse when multiple units occupy the same airspace. Just a warning. Download the app and set up a network for all your own units at least, then you won't have to worry about turning all your units on in any specific order to make sure they pair correctly.

Looking forward to convincing the "office" to order 4 more units so all our onstage MIDI talk will be wireless.
