The first thing I noticed about this motherboard is that it is hefty, moreso than ATX boards I've previously handled; the stylized metal covers which initially appear decorative offer a secure handhold and a reassuring impression of structural integrity. When building, latching the CPU into its socket often requires disconcerting force, but this board is firm enough to squelch any fear of warping it; likewise, it has no trouble holding up the monstrous heatsink I used.
Installing components is noticeably easy; all of the headers are clearly labeled, and they are distributed around the perimeter in a manner that averts awkward positioning.
The intuitiveness of the build is bolstered by clear instructions; the included instruction sheet leads you to videos demonstrating the installation of every conceivable component, and the user manual available online not only contains plenty of information regarding the board itself, but also proved to be a valuable general information resource throughout the building process - for this alone, I would recommend this board to a beginner.
That said, I did find that in a few places components were positioned awkwardly; when installing an NVME drive into the secondary M2 slot, for example, the position of a nearby PCI slot necessitated some difficult maneuvering. I also found that my case fan connector was unable to reach any of the SYS_FAN headers, which are unusually positioned. This was not a bother; I simply plugged it into the PUMP_FAN header instead and verified correct settings in the BIOS.
When it came time to mount the prepared board in the case, the preinstalled I/O shield was indeed a convenience: The board slid into place with little effort at all. It was in the act of securing it, however, that the bulk of the motherboard became more apparent; the metal shielding presented a slight pinching hazard when mounting, and necessitated extra dexterity when screwing into the hard-to-reach corners.
Lastly, the included BIOS is easily the most beginner-friendly I've seen; the mouse-and-keyboard controls along with a familiar user interface made it very easy to use the helpful diagnostic tools as I finalized my build.
Overall, my new PC runs outstandingly quiet and cool, in no small part with this board pulling its weight. A good motherboard is the near-literal backbone of your computer, and this one is no exception.
PS: I suggest finding your board's CHK code *before* you put it in the case.

Not ideal. I had to send this board back as unusable and buy an alternate board with a bios flashback (allows you to flash bios without a cpu).
So, buy this board if you are using a 12th Gen Intel cpu. If you want 13th Gen support out of the box, look elsewhere. (I bought the Gigabyte Aurous AX B660M motherboard. It is more expensive, but it does come with more usb ports, wifi, BT and bios flashback)...
I give it 4* because the the full ATX version of this board gets some USB 3.2 2x2 ports (instead of 2x1 here) and there is no back panel USB C on this board -- some cheaper boards have that, so cheaping out here from MSI. Plus, the full ATX board was cheaper than this one. Bummer.
I also don't find the bios the most intuitive to use, and updating the bios is a bit finicky (need to format USB as FAT32 or it won't work). And the memory banks are not color coded.
Overall, this is the best value in mATX if you want to use a fast 12th Gen with upgrade potential and without overclocking the CPU. I'm happy with it so far.
Went through all trouble shooting tried different ram, reset cmos battery etc
Board would freeze in bios
Didn’t even send me the manual or any other items that come with a “new” motherboard purchase
My board shipped all the way from Italy for some reason which lead me to believe I got sent a faulty product
Went to micro center and got a new board!!
Top reviews from other countries
Even though it was way too overkill for my 12100f I couldn’t deny the $110 prime deals price. Installed it just a week ago and so far it’s been smooth sailing ever since. One tip I can give you though is to pre-install all the drivers (Especially the wifi/ethernet) on a usb stick from MSI’s website since I couldn’t use the ethernet without the drivers and had to download the drivers from my laptop and transfer to my PC.
Pros:
- Great heatsinks and VRMs, ready to handle all but the most high-end alder lake CPUs
- Nice and modern look of the motherboard, no gamery colors or unnecessary LEDs for a clean and professional look
- 4 Video output ports on the motherboard (2 HDMI 2 DP) for people who are into that stuff
- Worked with my 12100f with no BIOS updates or any settings needing configuration
- Great price (But not as good as when it was $110 in prime day)
- Takes DDR4 ram, this is a big pro for people on a budget since you don’t need expensive ram but a small con for people with a big budget since DDR5 has very little impact on performance from the benchmarks I’ve seen
- M-ATX size fits almost all cases out there
- Nice and solid M.2 heatsink on one of the slots that works great
Cons:
- No usb-c port on the back. Not necessarily a worry for me but can be a big con for some
- M-ATX size comes with a con of having a lot less of pretty much everything compared to an ATX board from PCI-E ports to fan ports
- The first board I received came with the cpu cover already off and multiple pins on the board bent. Though this is not a fault of the board or the manufacturer and I have received a brand new one after a quick chat with an Amazon employee and returning the faulty one.
Overall I’d recommend this board to anyone from people going for a cheap, low-end build (like me) to people going for a higher end build. Though one thing I heard is that the LGA 1700 socket has a detrimental problem of bending CPUs, the best 2 options I have seen is to either purchase a bending-correction frame from Thermaltake or installing 1mm washers under the socket to lessen the stress on the CPU. I’d consider this before installing your CPU as once you push that lever down your CPU might be bent irreversibly.
The MSI PRO B660M-A supports DDR4 Slots and also M.2 SSD's
good mainboard for a fair price
