Then I got a Nikon Z7, and while you can put those two lenses on the FTZ adapter, you end up with something that looks like a jar with the pancake lens as the lid. Bulky and ugly. I'd already had the pleasure of using some rangefinder lenses on a Sony A7 II, and liked how compact they are, yet still delivering decent optical quality. This is my fourth Cosina made lens, and they have never failed to perform. I've got the Voitgtlander 40mm/2.8 Ulton pancake for F mount, the 58mm/1.4 Nokton, and the Zeiss 100mm/2.0 macro.
This is my first rangefinder Voigtlander. As usual, the build quality is high, fit and finish lovely, the focus action is smooth and silky, the aperture ring clicks positively on half stops.
Shooting, it's a little soft wide open, but sharpens quickly with just a little stopping down, and the bokeh is gorgeous. A slight tendency to flare is mitigated by any decent hood.
Speaking of hoods, it has a traditional 3 lug bayonet for hoods. The Voigtlander LH-8 is the recommended hood, but that's a round "vented" hood, designed not to block the viewfinder of a rangefinder camera, and $95 for a hood is insane. I looked for replacements, and found the Haoge LH-VM35: it's a rectangular hood (love bayonet hoods, they make rectangles easy) works great, looks spectacular, and costs $43, less than half the Voigtlander price.
Buttery smooth at 1.2, razed sharp as you stop down. Tiny package.
meet needs of one that ones a compact package, and shallow DOF, with amazing quality of product.
I am happy with the lens.
