I bought these for a Kilimanjaro hike I have coming up, I took advice I read on several websites to get a half size bigger than normal to make room for the thicker merino wool socks I'll be wearing for the hike and that was good advice. I almost always wear a 7.5 in most every brand (nike, Adidas, new balance, toms, etc) so I got the 8 and they worked great right out of the box with my wool socks. My first hike with these was about 10 miles and they were not uncomfortable at all. I've since been on several more 10+ miles and they just keep getting better, little to no break in time required... but still a good idea. Very supportive and deceitfully light weight for the size. I also have a pair of Solomon trail runners and they didn't require break in time either, I'll be sticking with all Salomon for hiking shoes from now on.

bought my first pair 4 years ago and fell in love with them. Used them for a 10 day elk hunt in Colorado and they were great. Now, I do spray my boots with water proofing spray at least once a year but I never had one problem with water. As long as it doesn't go above the top of the boot my feet stay dry. I wear them locally to hunt in and also use them when I'm outside working. I have put a lot of miles on my first pair and they have held up great through it all. I am going on another hunt in CO this year so I invested in a new pair but my first pair is still a solid boot that I wear almost every weekend to hike or work outdoors. If you aren't too picky about the color you can often watch these and get them for less than the msrp of over $200 but they are worth every penny in my opinion. Even at $200 and ive gotten 4 years and still counting out of 1 pair they are worth the investment vs a cheap pair every year or two. My only qualm with them are the laces, you definitely have to double knot them to keep them tied but on the other hand they have never broke or frayed like some other boot laces. All in all, I can not foresee me purchasing another type of hunting/hiking/outdoor boot since investing in these! Love my Salomons!

As with all Salomon shoes I had to order a half size smaller than my usual size in other brands. Even then I have ample room for thick socks. These shoes served me well on an 8 day excursion through rain and rocky terrain. Grips great to wet rocks, comfortable with sturdy ankle support. Wear socks that go above the shoes, or you will get some discomfort/blisters from the back top rubbing. Also, be careful- as with any shoes with hooks for laces, they can catch on the lace of the opposite foot and make you trip, which is a big no no in precarious terrain. Tie your shoelaces so there are no long loops that hang loose and catch onto the hooks of the opposite shoe. Otherwise good solid waterproof Salomons.

I have been looking for a nice pair of hiking boots and these fit the bill. The are comfortable and not too heavy or light. Depending on what socks you wear and how tight you tie the boots, there may be a little chaffing after a full day of hiking. I once wore the boots with ankle socks and by the end of the day they started to chaff. Wearing them with taller socks works well.

I think the boot would be fine for someone with narrower feet. While I don't have wide feet, I have trouble finding hiking boots with a toe box wide enough to accommodate my toe sock liners and over socks. I love Salomon products as I know they are well made and long lived. If you need a wide toe box, go with either the Quest 4d or the Quest Prime.

They are wonderful shoes, extremely comfortable with great ankle support. However, they are rather heavy and I would only recommend for long backpacking trips that require a serious ankle support due to terrain. I ended up with Lowa Renegades for day hikes in Scotland and Ireland....they worked amazingly and didn't have the extra weight that these have.

I love love love love these boots! I have had many different names of walking boots and by far these are my favourite! I have lower back issues but love to walk so want comfort and stability. These boots were comfy from the off, like walking on air. In fact soon after getting them i was on a weeks walking holiday. I was going to take my old boots but these were soo comfy when I wore them for work that they came with!
As always Solamon fit a bit small. I am normally a 6 / 6.5 but always buy a 7 in Salomon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stabiler haltgebender Wanderschuh und trotzdem Leichtgewicht
Reviewed in Germany on September 2, 2017
