Consider the 8002D?
Consider the 8002D as the next level of sewing with a minimal footprint. A serger will provide your sewing projects with the final step of finishing seams or quick and easy rolled hems. Plus, using a serger will turn tricky projects with knit fabrics, into a breeze. This compact model will upgrade your sewing space, without sacrificing the valuable table space that a full sized serger might!
The value of differential feed adjustment – This dial will greatly help to minimize any puckering or stretching that could occur on other sergers with tricky fabrics. Two feed dogs are used in this system; one feeds the appropriate amount of fabric for the setting on the stitch length dial and the other pulls or pushes the fabric according to the ratio set on the differential feed dial. Puckered edges on woven fabrics are prevented by setting the differential feed dial between 0.5 and 1.0. Stretched edges on knit fabrics are prevented by setting the differential feed dial between 1.0 and 2.25.

This machine is quiet if the needles are new and properly installed. There is no need to fret about threading it if you set it up on a table or platform at eye level. It is very lightweight and easy to do. This easily chops through two layers of upholstery fabric with cotton liners. I have used it with three and four threads. of the adjustments that are available are really great. It will do Ruffles and all of that but again you have to read the manual and follow the instructions and if you do so it is easy to use. So this will only be difficult for you to use if learning is difficult for you because the manual is very well written.

The Pros: It comes pre-threaded with spools of white thread included (nice!), a blind-stitch foot, extra needles, plus the tools you'll need (tweezers, large and small screw drivers, foot pedal, and instructions). Because it comes threaded, you can pretty much start stitching right out of the box, especially if you're experienced with sergers. It's relatively quiet, small and compact (great if you're strapped for space), and fairly light-weight with a notch in the back that acts as a handle for carrying. It also has a decent motor and stitches up nicely.
The Cons: Although I kept the tension fairly low, at "3", it goes up to 9 or 10, my threads kept breaking, causing me to re-thread the machine often. That was a real bummer, not to mention a time kill. I didn't find it difficult to thread, but I do have many years of experience with sergers, but as soon as one thread broke, another one followed. Every time I took it out to sew, I would spend time having to re-thread it. It was terribly frustrating. I really wanted to like this machine, but I ultimately returned it.

I did some independent research looking at various companies, even Lidl! to get an idea of the best beginners machine to buy within my budget. Out of several brand names including Singer the reviews for the Janome 8002D came out tops, it wasn't the cheapest but I think was considered the simplest.
It is early days yet as I have only had my machine for a short spell but already getting to grips with overlocking and found it so easy on the first attempt!!! As others have said the machine comes already threaded which is great as this gets you acquainted with it before you try to thread it yourself. There will come a time when the machine thread breaks and you do have to thread the four threads not just the thread which has broken. I found a couple of useful videos on YouTube which shows you how to do this which helped me understand it better than the manual & DVD, although these are well put together and easy to read.
Once unpacked, I started with some scrap material first and then moved on to using it on my project. I like the way it cuts the fabric as it sews giving a sharp finish to seams and if my sewing machine breaks down I can use the Janome to complete a straight seam. It makes a nice finish to your garments it really does, it's also great for finishing T. Shirts.
From a storage point of view the spool holders collapse and the machine is then small enough to fit away in a cupboard when not in use. It is quite sturdy and comes with suckers for feet. It has a weighty feel about it but reasonably light enough to carry a short distance from car to class if needed. Disappointing though that it doesn't come with a dust cover which would have been useful, I have bought a sewing machine bag to keep it in.
I have thoroughly enjoyed using mine so far and wondered why I was so nervous about buying one! So if you are undecided give it ago you won't look back I promise you, if I can do it so can you!
Exactly what i wanted best quality! And delivery was very fast!
Thanks alot
