A Hockey Romance Standalone

If I never hear the word hockey again, it will be too soon.
That’s why you won’t find a single item in my sporting goods store; no blades, pucks, or sticks.

It never existed for all I cared. But I cared. More than I wanted to.

It still hurt. Not my arm. The pain doesn’t bother me anymore. It was the rage, hostility, humiliation and of course – the gut-ripping realization of knowing my career with the NHL was over. Only two years after it started.

Until Rayne—and Jax, her seven-year-old son walked into my store, looking for hockey gear—and lessons. They couldn’t possibly had come to a worse place for that.

But try saying no to a gorgeous blue-eyed blond…oh and his hot mom too… when in a matter of minutes, the two managed to put more smiles on your face than you thought possible.

It’s just my damned luck though – that this woman has more of a connection to a world I try everyday to forget.

This book will capture your heart and leave you wanting more.

When a beautiful Single mum appears at Logan’s sporting shop looking for Baseball Stuff for her son, Rayne catches Logan’s eye. Her son hates playing baseball and really wants to play Ice Hockey, he keeps pestering her to let him try. She she tells him no because he can’t skate & it’s very dangerous, Logan steps in and offer to help teach him.

Logan hasn’t played Hockey after a really bad injury. He never thought he’d step onto the ice again, until the beautiful Blonde comes into his shop with her son and he stupidly offered to teach her son how to skate and play Hockey. She has no idea that he was a big NHL player but when she does, it brings back bad memories & she can’t tell Logan who she is. Once he’s back on the ice he feels at home again.

The chemistry between Logan and Rayne is hot enough to melt ice. But there is secrets that she is keeping from Logan, will that secret break the ice to their chemistry?

I loved their story so much and it melted my heart.

No strong representations of diverse characters or minority identities.

Overall: 2-stars

The back and forth between the MCs felt off rather than being cute banter. Like they were always interpreting each other the wrong way.

Also, the Hero basically made the Heroine’s abusive relationship with her ex-husband about him. The Hero said some pretty asshole-ish stuff and got away with it cuz he’s ~hot~. I need a grovel of an apology not a half assed “I’m sorry baby” in a hockey rink.

Basically the Hero rubbed me the wrong way despite the story being cute.

Also I found it weird how everyone told the Heroine *not* to tell the Hero about their connection, yet everyone at the end were all *it’s about time*. Made no sense.

Safety Rating: Safe

Possible Triggers: Yes

I am such a sucker for a good sports romance throw in when it is either a Hockey or Football romance with a single parent and I am done for. Logan is so freaking swoony like I just can’t. I love me a broody grumpy alpha. Rayne this babe right here had been put through the ringer and she still managed to remain strong, sassy and feisty and dedicated to being the best mom and giving her son the best he deserves even at the sacrifice of herself. There was some great twists and turns in this story especially when two pasts collide and start to cause problems. The chemistry between these two is HOT AF and their banter is so great. This was such a great story and a must read.

Logan's hockey was stopped short due to an injury to his arm. He opened up a sporting goods store in the town his sister was living in once his recovery was done as he didn't want to leave her. When single mom Rayne walks into his story to buy her son baseball cleats that he doesn't want a spark is ignited between Logan and Rayne. A spark that neither one wants to ignore when they both know that they should.

It irked me that Rayne kept going on and on about how everyone in this town knew who she was and who her son was; everyone looked at her the wrong way because of her ex and her baby daddy. But Logan didn't know and it was a huge secret that she couldn't tell him. She wanted to but couldn't. Yes I get this was the ultimate conflict of the story but it was dumb. If that is what you wanted the conflict to be then don't drone on and on about how everyone knows who you and your son are and who his baby daddy is. I saw all of this coming from a mile away and all the "everyone knows who we are" comments rubbed me the wrong way. Also the conflict resolution totally threw me for a loop. One second one character was saying the other lied and there was no forgiveness and the next they were doing this big grand gesture when I felt that the other character should be doing the gesture and that kinda rubbed me wrong.

But I still felt that Logan and Rayne were fun. They had some pretty good banter. Logan really bonded with Rayne's son and that was super endearing to me. I liked the growth that Logan went through with his recovery and with Rayne and his sister. I know it sounds like I am complaining more than I liked this book but despite the above issues I still enjoyed this one.

This book has it all, romance, growth, characters we hate who try to ruin the relationship for the main characters, and family. Roxanne Tully has written a wonderful story about two hearts that have been broken, by very different circumstances, and how the characters weave their broken hearts together to mend them both. Logan Danes was excelling at the top of his game in the NHL when he was injured so badly during a game by goon in a fit of jealous rage, that Logan never returned to skate again in the NHL.

Rayne is a physician's assistant and a single mom, burning the candle at both ends. Her son, Jax, desperately wants to learn to play hockey and she is desperate to prevent that from happening. When Rayne takes her precocious 7 year old son to the Sports Goods store to buy him a new pair of baseball cleats, Logan and Rayne meet for the first time. And Jax meets Logan too. Rayne is a strong woman, living her life with conviction, despite the trouble she has dealing with her ex, Jax's father. All Logan wants to do is live his life, and never think about hockey again. Except that first visit to his store cracked open the hockey door again and Logan cannot help his interest in helping Jax while also getting to know Rayne.

Logan and Jax's relationship is just as central to this story as Logan and Rayne. Roxanne Tully did a wonderful job of building both relationships for the readers. It was very realistic. I imagine that many single mothers struggle the same way that Rayne did, and have to be strong just like she was.

Both Logan and Rayne's characters went through growth from the beginning to the end of the story. Of the two, I feel like Logan grew more than Rayne did, but he had an awful lot to heal from. And Rayne's growth was just as impressive. Character growth is one aspect of romance books that I believe is necessary to be 5* potential. And Ms. Tully definitely earned this five-star rating!

I’ve read a lot of hockey romance books, but this one is really unique! Sporting Goods was my first book by this author and I really liked the way her writing flowed, making this a book that I couldn’t put down.

Logan is a former pro hockey player who opens a sporting goods store after an injury and ends up meeting single mom Rayne and her son Jax. I loved how strong Rayne is and how she does everything she can to be a great mom to Jax. Even though Logan is definitely a grump when we first meet him, seeing him soften up throughout the book as he falls for both Rayne and Jax was really sweet. These two had instant chemistry but I was so frustrated with Rayne knowing the secret she was keeping from him! I didn’t blame Logan at all for being upset, but they do get their HEA that comes with the perfect epilogue!

For me, this book was a little more emotional than I was expecting, but still not overly angsty. Told from both POVs with a little steam, drama, and some fun secondary characters that I hope to see more of, this was a book that this hockey loving reader is glad she read!

Aw I really enjoyed this book! I’ve been looking forward to reading it for a while and it didn’t disappoint. It was the kinda book that you read in one sitting and that just makes you smile!

It’s about Logan and Rayne. Logan is an ex NHL hockey player who was injured in an ‘accident’ during a game by another player. It’s been over two years since it happened and he’s never gone back to playing, he now runs a sporting goods store with his sister. This is where he meets Rayne..

A single mother to a seven year old boy called Jax. She is basically raising him alone as his dad is disinterested. Her son is desperate to play hockey but Rayne doesn’t want him to.. this leads to a debate about it in the store which Logan overhears. He offers to give Jax lessons and it all escalates from there.

The chemistry and tension between Logan and Rayne felt really natural and real and I loved how they came together. There were plot twists in this that I didn’t see coming and it definitely kept me hooked! I really enjoyed this and recommend. 💕

Great read.

Sporting Goods by Roxanne Tully.
I’m new to this author and her books. I must say I was excited to read a new hockey romance. I’m a huge fan of football romance but enjoy any sport romance. After reading this book I can honestly say I truly enjoyed this authors style of writing. I loved the characters and the flow of the book was easy to follow and get into. I loved every second of Logan Raynes chemistry as well as their connection. I mean Logan come on I loved how he was a moody hottie. He definitely made me swoon a bit. He will definitely capture your heart. As for Rayne I loved her she was sassy and I absolutely loved her son he will definitely soften your heart as well. This was great story all around and really enjoyed it all. Look forward to reading more from this author.

Sweet and dreamy

The story is romantic, emotional, dreamy and dramatic. It is a standalone, sports romance novel with sweet characters who overcome their issues with the help of each other. The sultry chemistry between the protagonists and the constant drama surrounding them will be entertaining for its readers. It is a highly recommended book for readers who like this genre.

Personal Take:
It's been a while since I have read Sports Romance now. So this was refreshing. I really liked how the female protagonist developed a backbone and fought for what she really wanted. The book was sweet and romantic that had me swooning

I haven't read many hockey romance novels (I'm more a football fan) but I have read Roxanne's works before, and knew I would enjoy this book as well, and she certainly did not disappoint.

Rayne and Logan were two well-developed characters, and this book showed that even through hardship, one can overcome the fear and put their differences aside to make Jax's love of hockey a happy experience.

I would definitely read this author again!

*I received this ARC for my honest opinion*

SWOON! Oh my gosh! This book was amazing. Sports romance, grumpy alpha male, single momma with a sweetheart of a boy who sneaks his way into his heart. This was the first book I've read by Roxanne and I can't wait to read more. This book left me wanting more. So much heat between the two, and secrets that she's keeping from him..will the heart between them be enough to save them from her secrets?

Read Sporting Goods by Roxanne Tully to find out :)

I’m a sucker for a good sports romance, particularly of the hockey variety, so when I was approved for this arc I was very excited to start it. This was a very quick read for me and I enjoyed it. I loved both of the lead characters so much, and the background characters were great as well. Overall, this was a super cute romance, and the interactions between the two leads and the heroines son were adorable.

Wonderful easy read

This book lived up to it's hype. I Immediately fell in love with our MCs Rayne and Logan, he is brooding yet caring and she is feisty yet down to earth. And then there is the sweetest 7 year old Jax, the glue to hold them together. These characters felt real to me, their interactions were natural and their issues were (somewhat) relatable.

Every good romance has gotta have the misunderstanding or "secret" to challenge our couple and this story is no different and I liked the way the story built around it. Throw in some banter, cute parenting moments and a bit of spice and we have a winner!

Do you love sports romance? Found family trope? Lovable seven year olds that thaw the iced hearts of gruff hunks? Then this book is for you!

All in all a great read that I will happily pick up again!

I’m new to Roxanne Tully and the blurb for this one caught my eye. I’m so glad I decided to read it because it’s an awesome sports romance.

Logan and Rayne meet at a sporting goods store. Their chemistry is undeniable. However, due to trust and other issues both try to resist the instant connection.

Throw in some drama, some emotions, a hint of steam, and you’ve got yourself a great romance. I loved the storyline and the characters are great. If you’re looking for a good hockey or single parent romance, look no further than Sporting Goods.

This book is AMAZING! Roxanne never ceases to capture my attention from page 1 of her books and Sporting Goods is no different.

Logan and Rayne have that undeniable chemistry that both try to resist. Both of their pasts make them struggle to trust and let go. Through their journey, they make you laugh, cry, and scream to 'stop being so stubborn and kiss her damnit!' Those are the books that you can't put down and you won't want to put this one down!

"My heart beat faster for her. Heck my heart beat for her. There was a minute there where I'd thought I'd lost that beat."

Ahh what a feel-good book. I have been reading so many dark romances lately - October feels plus I'm obsessed with that genre - and I was due for a read like this. Just something quick and easy to help lighten the air around my TBR. This book provided that, plus some.

I always say if a book has the ability to grace its reader with a smile on his/her face for its entirety, then that book is worthy enough to sit on my shelf and preach about it to my fellow bookworms. I really did love this. It was fun, it was easy, it was cute, it was sweet, and it was just good for the soul.

One of my favourite aspects of the book was the author's choice to use a variety of different dynamics between the characters. You have the obvious, Logan and Rayne. Which by the way can I just say how comical I thought it was that Rayne thought she could actually resist Logan? Like come on girl, that shit was inevitable. A man like that? Hockey legend, town worshipper, successful, loaded, tatted, a smoke show to boot, plus exceptional with your kid? Yeah, no hot-blooded female with a beating heart would be stupid enough to pass that shit up. Nice try girlfriend.

Then you have the dynamic between Logan and Tisch: Brother and sister, sad history, broken hearts, strong bond, future hopeful but also fearful, and share a mentality, "I have your back and you have my back" relationship. Loved this dynamic.

Rayne and Max: God Max is such a dick. Ex's, no future, no hope in trying to even co-parent, all because Max chooses to be a conniving, sadistic, and quite honestly bigheaded sonofabitch. Clearly, he's overcompensating for something? lol

Max and Logan: Hockey superstars. Max is responsible for ending Logan's career, spoiler, is he though? lol but basically arch-nemesis for the premise of the book.

Now for my favourite dynamic, Logan and Jax: Biological? no, but father-son, teacher-student, hero-worshiper, coach-friend, leader-follower. There is something sexy about a man with a child, add to it, a man who chooses to step in and treat a child as his own? Now that man goes straight up the leader board in my book.

Overall, this read was one I thoroughly enjoyed and would highly recommend. I finished this book in one sitting, so give it a look, what really do you have to lose?

*A huge shoutout to Roxanne Tully for the gifted copy. You nailed it, girl!!*

Favourite Quotes:

A wonderful sports romance. This is the first book I read of this author, i loved it.
The main characters were wonderful. Rayne was a wonderful heroine, Strong, resilient and a wonderful single mom. Logan was a delightful hero, a little scarred but very charming. The chemistry between these two were amazing.
The story was appropriately paced and everything flowed realistically.

All in all it was a good read!

This book was not what I had expected it to be. Yes, it is still a sports romance between a single mom raising a son who wants to play hockey and a former professional player who is trying to keep hockey in his past.

But there are elements of suspense, action, and drama that I did not quite anticipate but thoroughly enjoyed.

Logan is trying to erase anything related to hockey in his present. After a serious in-game injury caused by a lousy cheap shot from an insecure rival, he walked away from the game and is managing a sporting goods store with his sister.

Rayne is also running away from her past. She is trying to raise her young son by herself. She too detests hockey, and when she and her son Jax go into Logan's store, they soon discover that their individual distaste for hockey have more in common than they think.

Full disclosure: this book did not really have many spicy scenes, so if you're in a mood for that, this is not the book for that vibe. BUT you should consider this book for the great storytelling and thoughtful exploration of how a single mother tackles verbal and emotional abuse from an ex-partner with whom she shares a child. I am grateful that Roxanne Tully presented someone who made mistakes as she worked through setting boundaries for herself and her son. She also beautifully wrote how Rayne eventually comes to terms that she could never get a psychopath to empathize even for their own kid.

The book was more focused on Rayne, and I would have loved Logan's story to be more flushed out. There were moments where he acted what I considered to be out of character, and while most did not take me out of the story, there was one instance in the end that felt too harsh coming from him.

Other than that, this was a fantastic read, and I would definitely be checking out more Roxanne Tully books.

RATING: 3.5 STARS

Sporting Goods by Roxanne Tully captured my heart and made me sad that it’s a standalone and not a full series. It has all the great characteristics of a sports romance story (realistic scenes, team rivalries, the aches and pains that come along with being a professional athlete) as well as the trademarks of a fantastic single parent romance (ex who only wants to be a parent when it’s convenient, sweet kid who will absolutely melt your heart, and a parent who will do anything for their child).

Rayne is an amazing main character and I absolutely loved her drive and personality. The way that she puts her son first at all times (even if it might make her life more difficult) is so admirable and made me think of my own mom who raised me as a single parent. Logan is an absolute alpha hero, and I swooned after this particular line: “I want to be all the missing pieces to your puzzle, Rayne.” You’ll have to read the book if you want the full context for that quote, but you can thank me later for recommending it and convincing you to pick it up.

If you loved this book, you should check out Ms. Tully’s other sports romance book The Better Bully. The main characters are at a different stage in life (both are in college) and it has more of enemies to lovers/bully romance vibe. I know this is currently set as a standalone, but I’m putting it into the universe that I would love to see a story featuring Josh and Sam or Randy and Tisch (even if it is not a full book and more like a short story).

Thank you to the author and Midnight Readers Book Promotion for allowing me to read the book early. I voluntarily read and reviewed Sporting Goods; all opinions are my own and not influenced in any way.

Overcoming hardships caused by a delusional man, how these two characters helped each other conquer their pasts, touched me down to my bones. Adding in that it’s a sports romance, automatically claiming my heart hook, line, and sinker.

“Yҽαԋ, ɯҽʅʅ ʂσ ɯαʂ ყσυɾ ƈԋҽαρ ʂԋσƚ ԃιʂƚɾαƈƚιɳɠ ɱҽ ɯιƚԋ ƚԋαƚ ƚɯιɾʅ.”

Rayne was strong willed and independent, mainly because she’s a single mom to an adorable seven year old boy. She does whatever’s necessary for Jax, even if it’s something she doesn’t necessarily agree with. She also has a troubled past thanks to her ex husband, but when she’s had enough, she’s had enough.

“ѕнσω мє ωнαт уσυ’νє вєєη ωαηтιηg тσ ∂σ.”

Logan has suffered through so much, between an unexpected injury and dark family issues, but he was still a strong man. After everything he has gone through in his past, he’s still trustworthy to those around him. He has a lot of personal issues he needed to work through, specifically his trust, but he’s also a patient man with Rayne and her son. And, his cheesy one liners were everything!

“Like we’re all just puzzles waiting for the missing piece?”

The chemistry between these two is ice melting, and scorching hot 🔥. The flirtatious banter makes the story that much more interesting, and the intimate scenes better. I can always appreciate a story that sex isn’t the main detail, specifically those with an intense plot with so many twists and turns. Roxanne never fails me with her stories and I cannot wait to read her next book!

This book was AMAZING!!!!!

I was blown away by how much I loved this book and the Characters. Roxanne Tully did a fantastic job with this book. I loved everything about the characters and the chemistry between Logan and Rayne was steaming, it even made me tingly.

I loved the moody yet sweet thing Logan had going on. His personality had me weak and captured my heart. He is absolutely swoon-worthy and I am a tiny bit jealous of Rayne.

Raye is a sassy heroine that I love so freaking much. She adores her son and wants the best for him. She has obviously trusted the wrong people some in her past but she doesn't let that affect how much she loves her son.

I loved their whole dynamic and the whole book from the beginning to the end.
