TITLE: Sacked
AUTHOR: Tabatha Vargo
GENRE: Contemporary Romance
RELEASE DATE: November 24th, 2015

MY RATING: 5 Sinfully Sexy Sawyer Stars

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I've read 2x books by this author and both of them I loved so I can't wait to see what she brings me in this book, the synopsis had me hooked but that cover definitely reeled me in!!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Yes I've established that Sawyer was a drop kick douche bag but and this is just my opinion thank god he was because seriously he kept me entertained throughout, I hated him, I loved him, I claimed him as mine..The further you get into the story though you see a deeper side of Sawyer emerging, his cockiness is really just a front. This author is fast approaching as one of my favourites..

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I'm only a few chapters in and hot damn Sawyer is one cocky potty mouthed arrogant douche-bag - man-whore gods gift *coughs NOT* to woman

“No normal girl would make fucked-up ugly faces when it came to me. They were always dolled up and showing as much tits and ass as possible.”

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

NO CUDDLING, NO DOUBLE DIPS, NO GIRLFRIEND BULLSHIT. JUST NO.

OMG I cray cray love this author, I haven't giggled, gasped so much, in one book Sawyer is going to be the death of me!! No filter I tell you!!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Once i started this I pretty much devoured it, so freaking easy to get into but damn hard to put down!

I was living my dream as a true freshman first string quarterback at my school of choice.

So if you don't mind reading about an egotistical jerk off, who is a bit of a manwhore, has no respect for females until her, you so need to read this, he does redeem himself, you'll hate to love him but love him you will..
His character has so many layers and flaws but you just have to hang in there and discover them as you read..He's like a bottle of wine left to mature, he matures and grows on you as you get more into the story.

This chick was going about it differently. Instead of the usual flirty smiles and batting lashes, she was making fucked up faces and crossing her eyes.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

What made this stick out from the rest for me was the fact that these two characters weren't broken, he wasn't there to fix her, they ride off into the sunset blah blah blah *yawns* they both have had some knocks in their lives but the book didn't focus on the broken parts of them, which made it seem more realistic..
Then as your a few chapters towards the end if your anything like me a few tears will leak out, my heart broke for those wasted non friendship years..

I was going to rate this book 3 Stars but then as I talked to some friends about it and ranted about the Hero I realized there is no way I could rate this book that high. Sawyer Reed ruined this book and for that reason alone I just can't give a higher rating than 2 stars to a book I had this many issues with.

So the story is about Sawyer Reed who is a freshman in college and thinks that he's the god's gift to women. When he sees Gretchen and all she does is make funny faces at him in class, not throw herself at him, he's completely confused.

Gretchen isn't after Sawyer because of his good looks, she wants to make him pay for something he did in the past. She befriends him for the purpose alone, but as she's on her quest for revenge she gets sucked into his life and finds herself falling for him. When secrets come out though, their friendship-turned-relationship may not last.

The overall story of Gretchen and Sawyer was good and looking back I really did like it. But I just couldn't get over how stupid Sawyer acted and how much of a douche bag he was. His POV was painful to read at times because all he did was degrade women and thought that they were only around for his pleasure. I have read asshole Heroes before but never have I read one like Sawyer Reed. I kept hoping that he would change over the course of the book and we'd see some character development but that never happened and by the end I was angry at his character.

Gretchen's character, I didn't fully understand. When we were first introduced to her she hated Sawyer and talked about how she didn't see how women could love him because he wasn't that hot. But then out of nowhere she was talking about how hot his body was. It was too much of a switch for me that seemed to just happen without any thought. Other than that I didn't really have a problem with her but most of my focus at that point was on imagining kicking Sawyer.

Anyways, the story was okay and as long as you can get past a seriously annoying douchebag of a Hero I say try this book. Personally not my thing, but still worth a try for anyone that likes an interesting sports NA romance.

★★★ 3 Stars ★★★

Honestly I don't know where to start with this one, and I can without a doubt say that Sacked will push a lot of people's hard limits.

Sawyer Reed is our resident manwhore, and star quarterback of Camden University. He is arrogant with a capital A, completely narcissistic and does not really care about the women he leaves in his trail. He is cocky and entitled, and because of all these traits, I was hoping to fall head over heels for him in a big way, because these guys usually have big soft hearts hidden in their big hard bodies.

Our cliché virgin, Gretchen Cole doesn't know what the other girls see in him, all she can see is a man who is used to getting what he wants and she isn't about to bow down to him, especially since she has an ulterior motive for getting to know him.

"Sure, Sawyer Reed was cute in an I'm-a-fucking-douche-and-I-know-it kind of way, but in my opinion, he really wasn't all that. Then again, I wasn't one to fall for a cocky smile and a douchebag attitude."

Sawyer decides he wants what he can't have and so he finds ways to befriend Gretchen and slowly he breaks down her walls.

I admit, I did enjoy this story and it kept me on my toes and all, but the actions of Sawyer were just too much for me and I did not really warm to him at all.

Overall, it had great potential, I liked the plot and even if certain parts of it were a bit dubious, it still made for a good read. Had it not been for Sawyer's many indiscretions, I would have rated this four stars, but my enjoyment was severely let down by this turn of events and I never really believed in his true love for Gretchen.

Sacked is a standalone new adult sports romance, told in dual POV.

I have to say that that when I first saw the blurb of this story that I was very intrigued.We have a hotshot football player and a girl who can care less about his rep or stats.

Sawyer Reed is an egotistical cocky famous football player at Camden University. Whatever he wants,he gets and he has no shame in the process. Being a freshman,you would think that he would've been a little more coy and try to start off on the right foot but noooo that man has two things on his mind and if you're not a football or a female,then you're irrelevant.But that's all about to change when he meets Gretchen Cole.

 photo PicsArt_11-26-12.16.28_zpsis7q12xg.jpg

Gretchen has heard all about the infamous Sawyer Reed and she has no intention of being another notch but she does want him for a mysterious reason.They're connected in a way that Sawyer has no clue about and she's about to right a wrong that's been years in the making.

"There was no magic pill for a busted heart.

Trust me.

I googled that shit.

I really didn't love Sawyer to begin with.I found his ego way too big and certain decisions he made quite honestly pissed me off. What I did like was the humor I found certain sayings hilarious and it put a lightheartedness to the story. Gretchen was very easy to like and even though I didn't agree with what was her driving force in the begining of the story, I completely understood it and she was just trying to do the right thing. But plans always have a way of falling apart especially when emotions get involved.

"It was the epic cock.

I was drugged by the dick.

If cocky football players are you're thing mixed in humor, then I definetely recommend this one.

A cocky egotistical manwhore. These are a few words to describe Sawyer Reed, star quarterback of Camden University. Sawyer knows he is the man of the campus. The guy that every college girl wants. The door of revolving girls is an endless cycle. His ego alone is as big as a football stadium. So if Sawyer can get any girl he wants, why does the elusive Gretchen Cole wants nothing to do with him. Well, the answer is that she knows Sawyer Reed is a cocky prick. When Gretchen doesn't fall for his charm and isn't willing to hand over her knickers easily to him, Sawyer is intrigued. And so begins his pursuit of Gretchen Cole. But what Sawyer doesn't realize is that Gretchen has a secret that she has kept from Sawyer. So in this cat and mouse game, will Gretchen be finding herself falling for the cocky quarterback? And will she see that behind the facade is a good man?

#SackedTabatha

Usually, I don't mind a cocky manwhore but the hero, Sawyer Reed took me a long time to like. I wouldn't say that I love his character at the end but I will say that he was able to show character growth and that to me was quite an improvement. SACKED was definitely a slow build story since this book was about unfolding secrets and learning to forgive. Overall, I did enjoy SACKED by Tabatha Vargo but I just wished the truth and unfolding of the truth was exposed much earlier on in the book in which would have allowed a better and deeper connection between Gretchen and Sawyer. So if you are a fan of cocky manwhore who learned to change his ways, then this book might be for you.

4.5 Sack Me Sawyer Stars!

I admit, I am totally surprised by the outcome of this read! I liked it...a lot!

I started this book with a lot of reservations. While I like a good "bad boy," I do not like a boy whose swagger is not only big, but kinda dirty! Sawyer is the BMOC. He is a football god and along with is craft comes his skill in the sack. His reputation is horrid and rightly so. It was completely unknown to me why a pretty southern looker with a good head on her shoulders would even make eye contact with him.

Gretchen Cole is looking at Sawyer. Yep, she likes what she sees but in no way is one of the concubine of open vag looking for some QB time! She has set out on a mission to get close to this openly admitted male-whore, but she has no idea that her "hard to get" attitude along with her true down to earth self would have the QB genuinely interested!

This story was a bit more than the normal bad boy and a good girl love chase. There is a lot to like about Sawyer. While he goes thru the emotions of truly connecting with a girl it is a bit fun to watch him struggle. I totally got the hot/cold attitude, the rough manly front of 'not caring' and the stupid decisions made in attempts to argue with what the heart wants. Gretchen may have had her own back history and her own game on the line, but for both, they were kinda inevitable!

So with emotional and heated outbursts, a football playboy and southern charmer fall for one another. More connected they either realize, they find happiness in one another's arms and they find healing to some past injuries with a common and unexpected thread. In the end, I am happy that Sawyer got SACKED...I am even more happy he became the man that a "red bird' always new he could be!

Phew!!!! This bad boy made me sweat. Sawyer has to be the most arrogant hero I've read in a while and I wanted to smack him with his own stick!!!!!
Ahem, but first things first. I completely enjoyed this book. I was utterly entertained by Sawyer and Gretchen.
Sawyer is your typical jock. He is the famous quarterback and a complete womanizer. He has every girl. No commitment. No future. He just wants to have fun. Until he notices a girl he has never looked at before.
Gretchen is beautiful but so different. She is not interested in him. When she just wants to be friends, Sawyer cannot believe that he actually plays along just to get to know her.
But Gretchen has an agenda. She wants to know his secrets and she wants to make him see how wrong his behavior is. But can she be certain that she won't lose her heart in the process?
The book was steamy and hilarious at points. I liked that as Gretchen peeled away Sawyer's layers we got to discover how much of a softie he really is.
I liked how our heroine stood up to him. I found her relatable.
The writing kept me glued to my seat and I wanted to know how it was going to unfold. Great development. You just need to have faith in Sawyer because he can make you dizzy with his way of thinking at times.
Do not miss this.

DNF @ 78%.

I forced myself to keep reading this but I couldn't take it anymore. The H in this story is a complete douchebag. He is a huge manwhore and extremely arrogant. Any type of argument or misunderstanding with the h resulted in this guy trying to sleep with or find release with another woman. He was so immature and I was completely disgusted with him. There was no possessiveness or jealousy which is the reason I read this book. The h was another airhead that frustrated me. She wasn't all that great and losing your virginity when you're drunk was just tacky. There were too many misunderstandings and tantrums in this relationship. The final straw was when a character that was featured throughout the story died. It was just another disappointing event in a string of bad storytelling.

I’ve been SACKED by Sawyer Reed! I believe Tabatha Vargo has some of the best opening lines of anyone I’ve ever read! In this case—she’s flipped me on my lid with her ending! Oh, Tabatha, my love, what are you doing to me? I was for sure I would never love Sawyer Reed like I love some of your other men but alas, he has turned me on my head and I’ve fallen head over heels!

Sawyer is the classic college-football-playing, cocky, Mr. Everything! You know the type that all the girls want, but is unobtainable?! That is, until Gretchen Cole.

“She was sexy. She was smart. She loved football. She could hold her liquor. And to top it all off, she made me laugh. I never thought something like that would matter, but it did.”

Yep, that was the point when I fell head over heels and landed flat on my ass for Sawyer Reed. He was human! He recognized a good thing in Gretchen and didn’t want to let her go!

Being a chick who is a bit like Gretchen in the football, liquor and a combo of sexy/smart (or so I like to think) she totally appealed to me. But her heart is AH-MAZING! She cares deeply for those in her life and shows it!

“I was in love with Sawyer. I think. No FUCK that. Shit. Yes. I think I am. Hell, I don’t know.”

This is how it works! Most of us don’t fall in love like in romance novels, we go kicking and screaming, unwilling to leave our independence behind.

The feels in this book were off the charts for me. I totally connected on so many levels. I’m a protector. I protect my friends, family, and most of all, my heart. I don’t give in or up very easily. I’ve always said the person I end up with will have to work hard to sweep me off my feet! Somewhat like Sawyer did to Gretchen!

Don’t think twice, just read SACKED! You won’t be disappointed! <3 ~ Heather, 5 stars

~~~
Tabatha Vargo, you have a way with words, and from the first words I read coming out of Sawyer's mouth, I knew I was going to love him because of his dirty, honest words. Sawyer could have women drop their panties just by showing them that lethal smile, yet when a newbie comes into town and he tries his charm on her, not getting the results he always gets, she comes into his target range.
I gotta say that I fell in love with Sawyer, not only for his dirty mouth but because he was real in every way. Even though he played the macho card, he was man enough to admit that he had become a pussy when it came to Gretchen.
Gretchen is every football player's wet dream. She talked, loved and understood football, and wasn't afraid for anyone to know it. She just wanted to see what all the hullabaloo was about Sawyer and yet, she wasn't impressed. Sawyer was not happy that Gretchen didn't fall for him like the others do. As Sawyer and Gretchen start out their "friendship", well, one thing leads to another and damn it, it was HOT!!
When we keep secrets we know that eventually they will come out, but are we ready for the outcome when they come out before you're ready to share them? Gretchen learned her lesson the hard way, and I hated the outcome. I wanted to smack Gretchen and Sawyer so many times and make them see that they were both in the wrong!
This was a beautiful story of allowing yourself to love and be loved—the real way—finding a way to forgive those whom you think have wronged you, and seeing your future with a brighter outlook. Now, don't get me wrong, this story had scorching hot sex scenes and dirty talking, but it also had so much more feeling than that. It was just beautiful. ~ Kara, 4.5 stars
4.4 stubborn prick stars
Well, damn, this book surprised me in the end.
I didn't really know what to expect from it, I mean knowing the kind of books Tabatha writes, I thought at least it would be a little bit of a messed up! LOL
BUT this was actually a new adult drama about growing up, accepting your responsibilities and mostly making the right decisions even when they seem wrong.
it's about falling in love, truly falling in love and finding the right reasons to do it after you recognize them first, that is!
Sawyer Reed - a quarterback, an arrogant, obstinate or more likely, pigheaded asshole with no respect for anyone, especially females...and he goes around with this mission of his, as a God's gift to women, and throwing balls in the meantime.
(made me pissed) and I really didn't care what happens to him until this girl appeared...
Gretchen Cole - his classmate, a girl who didn't fall for his bullshit but who wanted to shake him down and throw him a fit cause at first her reason for getting close to him was to make amends in someone else's name. She needed to bring Sawyer down a notch, to make him applyant for a reunion with the one person that used to matter to him a great deal - his ex-best friend Jacob Byrd that Sayer considered his mortal enemy, in and off the football field.
Sawyer and Jacob had a history of a friendship so strong that it was considered unbreakable and solid as a rock until Sawyer was strucked by a family tragedy and at the same time when he needed his friend the most, Jacob was not there. He couldn't have been.
The years went by, neither of them ever got the chance to clear things out, and a huge misunderstanding and a painful and critial fact about Jacob tore them apart and turned the emotions into hatred on Sawyer's side.
Along the way Gretchen falls in love with Sawyer as he does for her. BUT this secret shadows their new and fresh love when Sawyer finds Gretchen and Jacob together...and assumes the worst.
NOW, let me tell you, there is angst to fill a cup, misunderstandings and pigheadedness to drive you fucking nuts, then there's just a drop of pain and sadness followed by a tender touch of forgivness and redemption...
surprisingly good read in the end...
In hindsight, I should have stopped reading this book after the first chapter. Maybe even during the first chapter. The ‘Hero’, Sawyer, opened the story and made a terrible first impression – something which never really improved. But he wasn’t the only negative...
I’d call this book an anti-feel good ‘love story’ – and I use that term loosely. You see, I tend to take on board the feelings the heroine is going through, whilst I read. In this case, that meant I felt a lot of hurt, a lot of heart-break, anger, and little happiness. It sucked.
But I will give props to the author for invoking those feelings in me. It was only due to the writing that I felt such strong emotions reading this story. Too bad they were all bad ones.
Thumbs UP
As usual, I was sucked in by the 'College Football Jock' storyline – one which I can’t resist. There’s just something about college books and sportsman that I love.
The heroine, Gretchen, had a unique way of catching Sawyer’s attention, which I found entertaining.
Gretchen’s random outbursts made me grin, because I liked her sass. I also liked it when she stood up for herself.
The author wrote some pretty steamy sex scenes. If you like a bit of dirty talk, you shouldn’t be disappointed.
It didn't take long to read (I'm grasping at straws here).
Thumbs DOWN
*I’m about to get my rant on, so be prepared*
Sawyer was a world-class, arrogant, asshole, who thought almost exclusively about his "dickly pursuits" and getting inside some "pink" . He said mean things anytime Gretchen harmed his ego and was just generally an unlikable guy. I don’t mind man-whores, but I can’t stand man-whores that use other woman to hurt the person they supposedly love, and that was Sawyer’s go-to defence. He did things I couldn’t forgive and didn’t do anything to redeem himself by the end.
Gretchen was unfair in the way she treated Sawyer, therefore I could understand his frustrations. She was very hot and cold toward him – giving off 'fuck me' vibes one minute, then 'fuck you' vibes the next. Ignoring him for days, then acting like a jealous girlfriend when he showed interest in other girls. She invited trouble into their relationship when she chose to keep secrets from him, so when shit hit the fan, I had little sympathy for her.
I HATE reading about any kind of sexual experience the characters have had/are having, outside of one another, and that happened in abundance throughout this book. I had to read about Sawyer getting sucked off, creaming down nameless girls throats, and having his little pecker played with from the very first page onwards. Sure, he was a "free agent" and therefore free to fornicate with whomever he chose, but that doesn't mean I have to be okay with it. I wasn't. Fuck that.
Gretchen and Sawyer’s relationship never really took off into SWOON-worthy territory. With his one track sex mind and her secrets, they were doomed from the start. When things were good between them, it didn’t last long. By the end, they had hurt each other so much that I didn’t even want them to be together and their ‘I love you’s’ held no weight. Not after I saw how quickly they could throw each other away.
Clichés - Thumbs way DOWN for lack of originality.
Jacob ☹ - His scenes were the only ones that almost brought me to tears.
Final Thoughts
Perhaps this was a more realistic portrayal of a College jock and his girlfriend, but reading is my escapism. I’m not interested in reality. And I didn’t like the lack of happy that this book had. I had that sinking gut feeling through much of the story, and in the end it’s left me feeling blue.
2 stars is actually 1 star more than I wanted to give this story, but due to the fact it annoyed me so much, I had to award the extra star. I just appreciate the fact that the writing had such an effect on me - even if it was negative.
Romantics – steer clear of this book! (Read this Sacked instead, it's awesome!)
Fans of angst & assholes – go forth and enjoy!
5 Sacked Stars!!
I devoured this one! I couldn't stop reading once I started that first page. I didn't know what to expect when I read the title and blurb, because a book was released prior to this one with the same title, and similar blurb. But once I started reading, it was CLEAR that these were two totally different books.
Sawyer plays football, and he plays well. So well he knows he's going somewhere and it isn't hard to find girls. But he's on a strike out streak with the ladies. Between practice and doing his school work he barely has time to get the girls off after they suck him off. And he begins to get frustrated with just getting BJ's. And then one day while getting to class late he notices a girl across from him and she does something he doesn't expect from a girl. She makes funny faces and him and causes him to laugh out loud in class. He decides he needs this chick something fierce.
Gretchen catches his attention on purpose, but not why you think. She has a ulterior motive behind her interest. So she puts Sawyer in the friend zone. But once she starts to know the real Sawyer she begins to realize she is in real trouble here. So at this point it's a battle of will on her part and a battle of make her see reason on his part. Who wins? You have to read it to find out! Hehe
Okay so my thoughts on Sacked are it's absolutely brilliant. I even cried on some very emotional parts. It has the perfect blend of sexy and humor. My favorite line is "It was the epic cock. I was drugged by the dick." <----I laughed out loud with that line!! Sacked is my first Tabatha Vargo book, and I've decided it won't be my last. Her writing is fantastic. Her ability to draw the reader in and feel like you are part of the story is amazing. Kudos to Tabatha on this beautiful story.
**SPOILERS**
I usually finish a book before I share my feelings on it.
With this one however, I find I need some purging therapy in the form of this (unedited) penning of my take on things so far:
I’m transfixed….
Hero: Sawyer
Heroine: Gretchen
Sawyer 1:
Is a son-of-a-bitch.
An arrogant, egotistical manho of the worst order.
A well portrayed anti-hero golden boy. Women falling out of the woodwork, guys wanting to be him, QB extraordinaire, and gorgeous to boot. Body Beautiful, the epitome of masculinity perpetuated by his staunch followers.
His sense of entitlement, his lack of respect for women, his utterly filthy mind convinced me that there is NO redemption for the likes of him. I didn’t even WANT him to BE redeemed.
How this boy has managed to remain mono free is beyond me. No STDs? He’s dayam lucky.
He needed taking down as far as I was concerned.
Gretchen 1:
She’s beautiful, feisty and confident, yet vulnerable and sensitive. Loyal. The quintessential good girl, with a heart of gold.
The kind of heroine who’s just perfect to take down the badboy.
Gretchen 2:
Has an agenda.
She’s loyal, just not to him.
She’s a liar and a betrayer and, if I didn’t know the reason for the two “moods” she vacillates between, if I didn’t have a family member with Bi-Polar, I’d say she suffers from this disorder. But no, this is not why she plays with him in an effort to get close to him for reasons of her own, which initially have nothing to do with her attraction to him.
She decides to play God, with her single-minded determination (I’m full of clichés this morning…sigh) to get to him. She does it in a way that turns her from good girl into…what?...I don’t even have the words right now….. I do know she’s so well written that she turns my stomach. Her skewered reasoning and subsequent actions make me dislike her with an intensity I usually reserve for Keira from Thoughtless. She holds him in the palm of her hand throughout the book. She makes him her bitch, unwittingly, but her bitch nonetheless So far she’s already smacked him twice across the face, which is preposterous considering the circumstances. Dear gawd, I’m gobsmacked by her sick push and pull at his emotions, his life. Over and over she reels him in, rejects him. Hooks in, hooks out. She’s overwhelmed by her attraction to him and is torn between being with him and the reason for her hidden agenda. (Which really could have been settled at the start, with dignity, communication and love between all concerned parties, especially as it’s literally a matter of life and death. But this is the author’s chosen arc so the situation only comes to a head much later in the book. Then it’s too late for what I would consider solid closure.) Her actions are made all the worse because essentially she IS a good girl with good intentions but she hurts the very people (not just Sawyer) with whom she should be honest with. The consequences of her immaturity has devastating effects. Now I’m nauseas all over again….
Sawyer 2:
If I didn’t read from his POV he’d be just another asshole undeserving of a HEA.
Stripped of his alphadom, he's TOTALLY bewildered by his captivation and how she runs rings around him. She has him in Upside-down Land. Icicles are forming in Hell cos the playa is being played.
I’d be rejoicing if he wasn’t so hurt and scared.
He adores the good part of her and is floored by the bad part. He strains to hold his emotions in check but is helplessly drawn to her, giving in to her constantly changing attentions. He’s sweet and attentive. Jealous and possessive. A softy. A beautiful bastard, really…
He’s viscous in his retaliation.
Not viscous enough to my mind. I want him to move on and find someone worthy of all those intense emotions because who doesn’t want to be loved by a bad boy….(okay, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, I know…..) I want someone who would choose him for himself only. An honest girl, who wouldn’t suck the life out of him only to shower him with adoration the next week.
What makes this read more intense for me is that this isn't a dark book. Its young and bright and collegy with all these heavy emotions swirling around
Review by Tabatha Vargo
There is nothing I like better than a man whore who becomes reformed only to revert back to his old ways when things get too personal or too hard for him to handle. Spoon feed it to me, slip it through a straw, or make me chew it up but give me that taste one can only get from an angsty read.
“You thought you were something special to me? You thought a few f*cks and I was falling for you? Newsflash, I was nice to you because I wanted to f*ck you. I kept being nice because you’re a good lay, but I got what I wanted. You’re too much trouble for a little bit of p*ssy. So we’re done now. Move. On.”
Oops. I guess I should have started from the beginning, but I was just so caught up in those jolt-to-the-heart words. That was Sawyer, a hot college quarterback, protecting his heart. Sawyer is a one-night stand only guy. He is so used to having women falling at his feet he doesn’t ever have to worry about not having a girl on his lap or on her knees. Sawyer is a good guy. He may be a little harsh with his words to women and the expected adoration from them, but deep down he just doesn’t want to care about somebody that can be taken away from him. He knows firsthand what it is like to love and be left behind. His mom died when he was a teenager. Not only did he lose his mom, but his best friend moved away when Sawyer needed support the most.
Gretchen and Sawyer have a film literature class together. It is through this class that a friendship starts, but actually it’s more of a plot on Gretchen’s behalf…
Mission one: get Sawyer’s attention. Check. Now all I had to do was get him to trust me..
Before Gretchen realizes that her plan is not fault-free, she has been pulled into Sawyer’s charm. Sawyer wants her…Gretchen wants him…then she doesn’t…oh wait, now she does…nope…not gonna happen. Gretchen’s back and forth desires drove me crazy! It’s no wonder Sawyer was trying to find a replacement for the way he felt towards her. There’s only so much rejection a guy like Sawyer can handle.
Gretchen needs to get it together before it’s too late. Sawyer needs to put his head back in the football game. Too many players are riding on Sawyer’s skills to lose his focus now.
She sacked me like a defensive player with nothing to lose. She broke through my defenses and knocked the breath from my lungs, leaving me on my knees in a state of absolute shock.
This was a quick enjoyable read told from dual points of view. It’s been a while since I’ve come across a good epilogue and I was beaming while reading this epilogue simply because it made me happy.
Okay, here is my problem with this book. Sawyer is the biggest douche ever. He's a dick. Asshole. And a long list of other adjectives which I should probably leave out. Now let me say this, it bothered me that at the beginning I liked him. I know, sweet spot for the bad boy, right? But no, that's not what it was. It's just refreshing to have a hero who is a grade A dick instead of a starting QB who is girlier than I am. He had some very brief shining moments during the story, but unfortunately they were outweighed by the amount of times he deserved to be smacked upside the head. (I promise I'm not usually an angry or violent person).
Gretchen was fine. She didn't really stand out to me and at times she was a little 'airhead-esque'. I feel like this is the type of heroine that I'll easily forget about down the road when trying to recall details about Sacked.
Between the two of them I was so aggravated for I swear half of the book. The ups and downs and back and forth between wanting each other and pushing the other away. Make up your damn minds! This was grating. And being paired with Sawyer's doucheness and Gretchen's inconsistency, it drove me nuts.
If I was basing my rating simply on these two, it would have been a 2 star read. There's times that Sawyer treats her like crap and she just takes it. If I ever witnessed something like that, that man would be losing his balls in a second flat. I'm a farmer - don't question my level of seriousness when it comes to the threat of castration. However, getting to the 3 star point would be because of one character: Jacob. He completely saved the ending for me. I loved his part in the story and I thought Sawyer's growth in the end with relation to Jacob was well done. Still not enough though for me to stop calling him names - takes more than that to win me over.
Quick recap.
Hero: Asshat
Heroine: At times I had absolutely no respect for her
Jacob: Love
The writing was fine, nothing spectacular but it did keep me engaged. Actually I should give more credit than that. I was engaged to the point that even though I was not happy, I devoured the story in one sitting. This is one of the classic crack type of stories that you just can't put down.
Would I read this again? HA! No.
Would I recommend this book? My first thought being no, unless you just want to laugh over an absurd relationship and overly dramatic situations (seriously, there's SO MUCH DRAMA) for the duration of 200+ pages before Jacob tries to save the day. So I'll stick with the first assumption... Maybe not.
Tabatha Vargo est une auteure intéressante qui manque de subtilité parfois mais qui a vraiment un ton personnel et si ce livre commence de façon volontairement légère, il devient bien plus grave au fil des pages.
Ne vous laissez pas abuser par le ton du début, un brin caricatural avec un héros, Sawyer qui roule les mécaniques. C’est un quarterback brillant, un beau gosse. Le mélange des deux est létal et les filles lui courent après. Sawyer les aime beaucoup et ils aiment bien en avoir énormément. Il n’est pas du genre à se lancer dans une relation amoureuse à long terme. Bref, vous l’aurez compris, il ne brille pas par sa finesse ni par la modestie. Sawyer n’est pas super doué en cours, mais il partage celui de littérature avec une charmante jeune femme, Gretchen, qui va lui taper dans l’oeil.
Honnêtement le début n’était pas très prometteur. Sawyer parle de lui sans aucun recul et avec un vocabulaire qui même en anglais vous fait froncer les sourcils tellement il n’est pas fin. Et puis Gretchen entre dans le jeune, a tout de la petite dinde habituelle qui font face aux garçons du type de Sawyer. Elle est bien plus que çà et l’intrigue va évoluer de façon bien plus favorable surtout lorsqu’on découvre l’ex meilleur ami de Sawyer, un certain Jacob avec qui il est en rivalité profonde. Je vous rassure, il n’y a pas de triangle amoureux ou quelque chose de ce genre.
Sawyer va avoir du mal à conquérir Gretchen qui n’est pas non plus tout à fait celle que l’on croit. L’histoire est rythmée, les rebondissements s’enchainent et l’histoire prend, comme souvent, avec cette auteure, un tour assez sombre. Il y a définitivement des moments poignants.
Ce n’est pas la meilleure romance du genre, certaines explications sont un peu tirées par les cheveux et reposent sur ces fameux malentendus qui font lever les yeux au ciel en se demandant pourquoi les personnages refusent de parler entre eux, par exemple. Mais les personnages sont sincères, les scènes de sexe très bien écrites et brûlantes. C’est distrayant et plutôt bien fait dans le genre. Le contrat est donc rempli !
I'm a little on the fence about this one, don't get me wrong I really enjoyed it but there was just something about it that I just didn't feel. Though I loved Sawyer from the off it took me a while to get into the story.
Sawyer is quite the character and I loved his dirty randy mind, the author really got into her teenage boy state of mind for Sawyer, the things this character came out with had me chuckling and wanting to smack him round the head at the same time. He is a walking ego and being the star quaterback only seems to make that ego grow. Until he encounters Gretchen and it was great to see Sawyer handed his own.
Gretchen has an agenda and a score to settle with Sawyer but he doesn't know it so when the two make their play a whole different game begins, what they both don't reckon on is emotions getting in the way. I really did want to shake her at times but her loyalty was endearing.
I think the reason for Gretchen's plan was a little off for me and I did find the situation a little juvenile at times but then these are college kids so it fits with the story, just didn't do it for me. That said I loved the interaction between Sawyer and Gretchen and did find myself engaged with the story after a slow start. And I loved the epilogue.
Ready to get sacked!?
This is only the second book I've read by Tabatha Vargo. She's one of my favorites now. No doubt. She caught me with Slammer and she's kept me with Sacked. I'm hooked on her game. This was another 5 star read. Just enough angst to make my heart break and more than enough heat to scorch my panties right off. Makes me want to go back and do college all over again with my own Sawyer Reed. He is hotness wrapped up in football pants and pads. Gretchen is so sweet she will make your teeth hurt. Love it. You should get sacked.
This book came as a huge surprise for me! I LOVE sports books and anything football even though I know nothing about football in real life. Well Sawyer was right up my alley. Huge manwhore, big a$$hole, and a phenomenal football player. He meets Gretchen and she's his game changer. With tons of heat, a bit of angst and just an all around great story, Tabatha really did a fantastic job with this one. Really enjoyed this one!!!
Sawyer is one cocky man, “yes, you are,” I freely admitted. “Barbie ain’t got ***t on you, baby.” I loved seeing the whipped Sawyer, "I looked over with a grin as I slid my feet into my sneakers. “Jim’s. My girl wants wings. My girl gets wings.” I loved this book, there were times I wanted to hurt Sawyer but he knew how to redeem himself.
Guess who can't resist a story about a football playing hero or a bad boy? That'd be me. Put those two things together and the book with those features immediately moves to the top of my reading list. I was so eager to read Sacked I was almost bouncing with excitement and was able to rationalize staying up until the wee hours of the morning reading it.
Sawyer Reed is a douche bag. He knows he's talented both on and off the field and can have what he wants. Of course he's gotten bored with that and when Gretchen catches his eye in class one day, instead of making smoochy faces at him she makes a funny face and just like that she's on his radar. Sawyer isn't going to stop until he's had her. I had mixed feelings about Sawyer. On one hand, I didn't like how rude and unfeeling he could be, while on the other the nice things he did for no recognition made my heart melt. I liked how he was determined to succeed. He was an unrepentant manwhore and I didn't like how he reverted to his old ways at the drop of a hat.
Of course Gretchen is more than just a hot girl who loves football and can't stand Sawyer, she's got an agenda of her own. I also had mixed feelings about her. She's smart, funny, loves football like I do, and her family. However, she has secrets about those she cares for and even a reason as to why she wants to get close to Sawyer. Of course she didn't expect to feel anything for him other than disdain which puts her in a quandary. I didn't like the way she handled the secrets she was keeping for others. I really believe she should have acted otherwise with the information she had. Perhaps the outcomes of those situations might have been different.
While the scenes between Sawyer and Gretchen are as hot as expected, I wasn't expecting the emotional intensity that came with the book. There are some topics that will hit you in the heartstrings. I will admit to crying at the end of the book. Of course I'm an emotional reader so that's no surprise. Over all I enjoyed reading this book. It's my first Tabatha Vargo novel and I look forward to reading more from her. While this book may seem like the quintessential new adult sports romance, it's not, and has a flair of its own.
It's rare that I really dislike a character from the start but that's what happened me while reading this. I love a cocky bad boy but Sawyer took that to a new level.
I've got to admit Sawyer grew on me as I kept reading but something just didn't click with me.
I really liked Gretchen. She was a strong feisty character. She was holding a grudge with Sawyer and wanted revenge.
I found this to be a steamy read with enough angst to keep me gripped. Gotta say I loved the epilogue.
"Do you always go home with random guys you don't know? Because if so, I'd say that's pretty gross."
The girl's eyes widened. "Excuse me?"
"You heard me," I sneered. "It's fucking pathetic."
Let me tell you, Gretchen, you are pathetic for being such a judgemental bitch!
Gretchen and Sawyers story.
She is a girl on a mission. To get close to Sawyer but not fall for his charms. This should be easy as she doesn't find him all that attractive and his ego is huge. He doesn't do relationships but when he sees her, he wants her. There is more at stake than a quick jump in the sack though. Can she help him see there is more to life than what he thought?
I actually quite liked this book. Yes it's cliche. Yes the leading man can be a bit of a douche and petulant but she also has her moments of stupidity. That being said, it was an easy read and I was willing them on
I had forgotten how much I enjoyed this book. It's a perfect college romance read for me. Plenty of heat, enough feels to give you that chest ache & the HEA we crave from these books.
Definitely recommend.
I didn’t know what to expect with Sacked. The cover is HAWT and I know Ms. Vargo writes some sexy ass scenes that get you hot and bothered. I’m a huge fan of sport romance novels so I gave this a try since I’ve loved Ms. Vargo’s other books I’ve read so far. Move over Sebastian, Sawyer is in the house and he’s got me swooning over him! Sawyer Reed is a conceited bastard, he knows he’s hot shit right now and he can have anyone he wants… that is until he meets Gretchen Cole. This chick is tough and won’t fall for his sexy smile. She wants something and she will play nice until she gets what she wants. Gretchen has secrets, big secrets that she doesn’t want him knowing yet. She needs to act interested in him for a very special reason. Will she get close enough to him that she gets exactly what she wants? Will Gretchen lose her heart to Sawyer while trying to help accomplish the ultimate goal?
“No cuddling. No double dips. No girlfriend bullshit. Just no.”
“I knew my eyes made panties wet, and my smile made clits throb. It was just a prequel of what I could do with my hands, and I made sure they knew that by the time I had their asses naked in my bed.”
To say I loved Sacked would be an understatement. I absolutely loved every damn second and fell in love with the characters. While Sawyer acts tough, he’s been through a lot and the man he’s become today is because of what’s happened in his past. He’s lost people he loved so much, either by death or distance and that’s hardened Sawyer where he’s become more of a cold distant person when feelings come into play. Will Gretchen be able to knock Sawyer on his ass and save him from himself? Only one way to find out, read Sacked so you can meet this sexy stud with a filthy mouth and hard co.. i mean hard body!
EEEP! I love a freaking football book and the cover for this book is magnificent and hot as all get out! Love it and I was too excited so I dove right into this one right away. This book ticked a lot of my boxes and here is why. There is football. There is a sexy egotistical hero. There is a spunky take no bull crap girl. There is angst. There is a bit of a mystery at the beginning. Add all of that to the fact that this book is hot as sin and totally hilarious and you have the recipe for an excellent read!
“it was the epic cock. I was drugged by the dick. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.”
You guys are really going to enjoy this one. I know I did and I am sure that some of that enjoyment stemmed from the simple fact that a lot of this book took place in my home state of South Carolina and the city I was born in, Columbia. Tabatha really reminded what it was like to be in college during football season and games against my rival school. She took me back to that time in my life complete with sexy football players and New Adult angst. And she made me love Sawyer and God I didn’t want to. He starts out so smarmy and full of himself but he won me over slowly but surely with his quick wit and charm.
‘Was she really going to blame it on the alcohol?
This wasn’t a fucking a Jamie Foxx song.’
I know, I know that from my review this book sounds like a romantic comedy but actually it didn’t really read like one. It was full of angst and some pretty sad and gut wrenching moments. Sacked put my emotions through the ringer. I laughed, I cried, I grieved right along with these characters. This is definitely a sports romance the you need to pick up!
What a wonderful story!
It is so much about young love, college age, friendship, and heartbreak.
The funny wit in this story was just out there and I was like… wow… how does someone come up with that stuff? Well, Tabatha Vargo did, and she did it well. Trust me… once you read the first line in the book you will know exactly what I am talking about.
The story is about Sawyer who is a “super-star” football player in college and he can pretty much get any girl he wants. He is “cocky” and very full of himself.
“My body is my temple, and I was more than willing to let a multitude of women worship all over it.”
Then he meets quirky Gretchen in class, and he tries to seduce her, and it doesn’t work. She plays hard to get, and that makes Sawyer even more interested.
The relationship between the two of them is so much fun. It is stressful at times and there is a bit of “angst”, but there are reasons for a lot of it. I loved how the story is in both characters point of views, so you get to feel how they each felt during certain circumstances.
I loved seeing how each of the characters grew and worked out certain issues.
It is truly a love story with an attitude, if that makes any sense. I mean, it is a super fun book to read with some of the stuff that comes out of either one of the characters.
I laughed out loud in some parts and got teary eyed in other parts and then there are some super SEXY parts. There is something for everyone.
Sawyer is one cocky arrogant man-whore that’s for sure! It took me quite a bit in this book before I actually liked Sawyer. He is bossy and always gets what he wants and his ego is HUGE!! The first half of the book Sawyer made me so mad! Yes Gretchen is a little spitfire but also Sawyer is use to girls lying down at his feet and Gretchen does not.
Gretchen isn’t going to fall for Sawyer’s tricks. She has a plan and she knows what she needs to do in order to make those plans come together. But once Gretchen gets to know Sawyer a little better she starts to realize maybe he isn’t as bad as she originally thought. But feelings start to get in the way and then things take a huge turn!
There are a lot of twists and turns in this book I didn’t see coming. Of course there are some secrets and I love secrets!! Of course Sawyer had my emotions all over the place one minute I loved him and the next I want to smack him. I love Gretchen and how she stands up to Sawyer. Great book can’t wait for the next one from Tabatha.
This is the first book by Tabatha Vargo that i've read and it wont be the last! The story is so full of emotions that it make me laugh cry and scream out loud all at once. I loved the idea behind the story of bringing two old friends back together before it's too late for it to ever happen. Both the main characters of Sawyer and Gretchen were well developed and very believable with the pain and emotions they both went through even though I wanted to slap Sawyer at times for being an asshole dirt bag, and I just kept willing Gretchen to tell him the truth to stop him and save him from his own assholeishness. Great story even though I was in floods of tears towards the end. Well worthy of my 5 stars!
