The Untold Story of Sita replaces the traditional narrative of Sita's life as told in the Ramayana with Sita as she truly is -- an incarnation of the great Devi Narayani. Sita comes to Earth to join Sri Ram in setting the foundation for a new civilization at a time when humans are becoming separate from the natural world. She seeks to embed a great love for the forests and rivers, plant and animal life in the hearts and minds of the people, and to share the high spiritual accomplishments of the great women rishis and sages, many of whom you meet along Sita's journey. This is a story of a woman's wisdom, courage and strength, her love for the manifest and unmanifest worlds, and her selfless sacrifices for the welfare of all. So step into Sita's time and see what life was like during a more spiritually more advanced age, when there was an understanding of Dharma, not just as duty but as an alignment with the higher forces of love that make possible the preservation of our world.

Editorial Reviews

Review

“A unique and riveting book. Elegantly written, and a refreshing departure from the cliched view of Sita as a helpless and submissive consort of Lord Rama. Dena Merriam has accomplished the daunting task of extricating Goddess Sita from the jaws of patriarchal narratives.”
―Swami Svatmavidyananda, Arsha Gurukulam

I smiled. I cried. I couldn't wait to read more. These writings spoke to me. It is a beautiful beautiful awakening.

The book presents A glimpse of Treta Yug Lifestyle. Then it talks about how things were happening from Sita's very personal servent's experience and views during Shri Ram and Sita's period. There is so much to cherish as you read the book. To me, the book inspired me to focus on meditation and be sensitive about balancing between men's needs and nature.
It is a good book to keep in your personal library or gift someone even if you don't read much.

This is by far the best novel I have read in Seeta Mata. Thus novel portrays her as the strong incarnation that she truly is.

The author wrote in such a way that draws you into the story immediately. This book is so good that I bought one for my yoga teacher who has been reading and quoting from in during her classes for weeks!

"I could not put this down. As with the two other books I’ve read by Dena Merriam, it feels like we’re right there with her, in the middle of the action. The story was gripping and amazingly relevant to the times we’re living through now.” - Celia S.

I am delighted to write this review today on Sita Navami, the birth anniversary of Sita. Patriarchy has presented many enlightened women as weak. One such enlightened woman was Sita in Ramayana, who was exceptionally strong physically, mentally, and of course, spiritually. The traditional narrative of Sita is that she had to prove her chastity by jumping into the fire after Rama's victory over Ravana, and that she was thrown out of her own home due to a rumor heard by her husband Rama from a washerman. As the historical evidence shows some of this is total fabrication contained in the 7th part of Ramayana which was added centuries later by patriarchal priests to make women like Sita look weak. This was done so that men could have more power over wives. Valmiki, the author of Ramayana never wrote this part himself. Academic scholars agree on this! This is similar to the many lies about Mary Magdalene in the sermons of Pope Gregory the Great in the 6th century, which paint the beloved wife of Jesus as a prostitute--by intentionally confusing her identity with that of two other women named "Mary." This was corrected 1400 years later by Pope Paul VI in 1969. The history of enlightened women is filled with such patriarchal lies. Moreover, even the popular interpretations of the first six parts of Ramayana are influenced by this patriarchal mindset. Dena Merriam presents the true story of Sita as it happened from her memories of a lifetime spent as the beloved attendant of Sita. The information is breathtaking and a must-read for anyone who wants to know the true spiritual aspects of Sita's remarkable life. This is divine feminine writing at its best. ~ Ananda Karunesh

Dina Merriam shares the ancient Indian mythological story of Shri Ram and Mata Sita and how their force of love for each other and the people of their kingdom as well as for the creatures of the forest and for Mother Earth itself lead them to establish the foundation for a fair and balanced society much based on universal principles of righteous, action in harmony with the universal laws known as Dharma. READ THIS BOOK to learn that dignity was a quality much valued in most ancient cultures and everyone lived in accordance with the rhythms of nature and being of service to others. We can learn from this society where men and women were equal and respected for their spiritual gifts and served each other without judgement from the outside world, but with love from "within" for all living things. A magical story of immense importance to help transcend these troubled times so we may change and evolve and remember our divinity and be united in love and respect for life itself. A charming story of eternal wonderment. Well done!

As a practicing Hindu I was looking forward to reading a book about Sita. Having read several versions of the Ramayana I expected some additional info on the hidden life of Sita, perhaps culled by interviewing people in India 's folk culture and villages.
This is just a complete and confusing work of fiction. It is told by characters and their perspective from different past lives which makes it a mix up of who experienced what.
I just wanted to get finished with it.
