Prev review: Haven’t had the smoothest connection using this camera since day 1. It would constantly not connect when I’m away from home, and now even when I’m home. Also it’s since won’t pair with the Aqara App on my device.
Aqara support will ring you around for weeks if not months until your support warranty is expired and then deny you service. I even was able to talk to the "senior engineers" on a Slack channel and they're all useless. None of them have any concern have your issues. All they care about are their future products. In their eyes, the G2h and G3 ships have sailed and they're moving on.
If you're going to use the Aqara app and service with questionable privacy, it will work.
For HomeKit, avoid this like the plague.
First, I knew this camera was going to be "one of those devices" when the manual insisted I change my SSID to remove any tricky characters like a hyphen. Really? In 2023 this thing can't handle a hyphen? The "special" characters it can't handle are all within the supported character set specified in the 802.11 standard. And instead of fixing it's broken Wi-Fi stack, Aqara tells its users to just change their SSID. Got 50 other devices you'll have to reconfigure after changing the SSID? Too bad.
While the rest of world has moved to 5 GHz and are now working on 6 GHz support, especially for higher throughput use cases like video, Aqara instructs users to DISABLE 5 GHz entirely to make this thing work. *facepalm* It's another symptom of a broken Wi-Fi client, and another demand to end users that they worsen their perfectly good network to work around it. Luckily, that's not really necessary. It works fine on a dual-band SSID if you can get your phone on 2.4 GHz during configuration. None of this should be necessary as HomeKit device discovery happens over IP, and regardless of what band your phone connects to, it will be in the same subnet as the camera.
Next… it's very common to disable support for legacy 802.11b support on Wi-Fi networks today. That increases airtime efficiency quite a bit and shouldn't be a problem for an 802.11n client like this camera… except it is. Unless all legacy data rates all the way down to 1 Mbps are enabled… it just doesn't work.
This is unacceptable performance for a Wi-Fi client in 2023, especially one as active as a video camera. Aqara should fix its broken Wi-Fi stack and stop burdening its customers with clunky workarounds.

Setup in HomeKit directly was a breeze. No issues whatsoever as I’m on google nest wifi mesh. Took less than 5 mins.
Given how limit the home app is in terms of camera controls and features (can’t even rotate image), I’ve decided to download Aqara home app.
The Aqara home is well laid out and designed. Though I mainly use it for rotate the camera image and updating the firmware. You could also use microsd for local storage if chosen.
I have 3 Logitech Circle 2 camera and though it has 2.4ghz and 5ghz, but Aqara gh2 pro felt snappier and the camera is opened up in the apple home app almost instantly given it only has 2.4ghz band. Though circle 2 was almost 4 or 5 years old.
GH2 pro doesn’t come with a power brick but it’s ok it only needs 5w of power so the old iPhone power adapter which I have tons is perfect for powering the camera.
For the price, features, and how it supports HomeKit, this makes this camera a must buy. Thank you Aqara.
