- It's very sturdy, solid metal and has good weight.
- The stop is quite heavy and highly polished.
- The cutter is sharp and makes a nice mark. It doesn't rotate and really doesn't need to, but it seems like you can if you want it.. You can sharpen it easily, but mine was very sharp out of the package.
- The knob on the stop is easy to use and holds the stop well. It hasn't slipped in my use, yet.
- The only gripe I might have is the measurement markings are rather faint. I don't care so much as I set the cutter stop using an adjustable steel square. In the case of dovetails, it sets to the thickness of the board very easily.
I am a stay @ home dad with a full on woodshop. I am no Sam Maloof or Jeffrey Miller but do "decent work". With that said prior to this wheel gauge I used antique pin gauges. Honestly I wish I had this when I began woodworking. It leaves crisp straight lines when used for crossgrain and does equally well with the grain providing you keep the fence firmly against the wood face and make multiple light passes.
I have unintentionally dropped it onto my concrete shop floor more than once but less than 5 times? maybe, mane it held up really well, has not broken or bent. If I could complain about anything, it would be the cutter screw. It likes to work its way loose (even marking right to left) regardless in which direction I ise it. So a dab of medium threadlocker rectifies this.
If asked how it could be improved, I would suggest a small flat spot be machined on the brass fence to aid in keeping it on the bench.
-The fence is flat.
-The shaft is square to the fence, though it seems to taper in diameter over the length of the shaft for some reason. If you measure center to center, though, you'll see that it's square.
-The shaft fits nice and tight in the hole, perhaps a bit too tight as even with the knob all the way loose it doesn't slide easily.
-The knob holds the shaft in place well.
-The markings are easy enough to read and seem to be pretty accurate, though if I needed precision, I'd probably compare to a known precise ruler anyway. Most of the time, I'm just using this to match the thickness of a piece of wood, so I doubt I will even use the markings very often.
All in all, it's a good value for the price, just expect to have to sharpen it a bit to really get any use out of it.

This unit is ok but you're better purchasing higher quality units such as Veritas etc.
That obviously comes with additional cost pain but the unit effectiveness and longevity will quickly alleviate those concerns.
