Product Description
We are third and fourth generation acheta farmers. The family farm has been producing achetas for over 60 years, and is one of the few to produce the acheta and banded.
Achetas
The acheta has been sold in the United States for more than 60 years. For many years, it was the only breed that could be legally sold and transported in the US. This breed has been used for feeders and for fishing, and has been proven to work great for both. There is a reason it has been in standard in the industry for so many years, and that is because they are reliable.
What are the benefits of the acheta cricket?
Achetas get bigger than the banded, which is the other dominant breed. They are also slightly slower than the banded. This means your pet has an easier time catching their food at feeding time. They also tolerate hot and cold weather fairly well.
Are they covered if they die in transit?
Yes! It doesn't happen often, but occasionally they will arrive dead. That is the nature of shipping live animals. We do have a live delivery policy, and you are covered as long as you let us know within 72 hours of receiving your package.
Do you ship in the winter months?
We do! We ship all times of the year! We package them in a variety of different ways to get them there alive. Sometimes we use boxes without vents. Don't worry! They can still get fresh air in these boxes. We also sometimes use heat packs, when we feel they will help and are necessary.
We do recommend against ordering when overnight lows are below 25 degrees Fahrenheit. We will always ship because we understand that your pet needs its food, but it is too cold when it get that low.
They may appear dead when they arrive to you in the cooler months, but are usually just in hibernation. Let them warm for 3 to 4 hours, and they will usually come back.

**Update**
I ordered another box and contacted the seller to see if they can request USPS drop off the box at my door. They informed me they can write it on the box, but the postal employee will be the one who determines these things, and I tend to agree.

However, BFC have been steadily raising the price, and worse, the problems with dead crickets have been worse. But my breaking point came with my order today. Because moving crickets are hard to count, I usually don't count them, but my order came with 102 alive and 304 dead when it was supposed to be 500 crickets. Crickets are obviously fragile and can die in shipping so I would tend to expect a 20% overcount, but I've now proven that currently BFC ships with a 20% UNDERCOUNT. This is not acceptable to me considering the higher price and I can't support this shop if they're going to short me and also kill crickets with inadequate shipping. Now that the prices are higher, I have to seriously look at competitors who used to be double the price of BFC but are now about the same. If there's one nice thing I can say about this experience, they are now using managed returns with an automatic refund if you're unhappy, so I don't have to snap a picture of my dead crickets to get a refund anymore - but since I already took this picture, I thought all of you in the review section ought to see it before buying from this vendor.
