Motherboard BIOS update for AMD Ryzen 5000 series processors
- From GIGABYTE’s website, download the latest compressed BIOS update file that matches your motherboard model from its product page.
- Uncompress the downloaded BIOS file, save it to your USB flash drive, and rename it to GIGABYTE.bin. Note: The USB flash drive must use the FAT32/16 file system.
- Insert the USB flash drive into the white USB port or BIOS Q Flash port on the back panel of your motherboard (USB port may not be labelled on all models, checking the user manual is recommended)
- Connect the power cables to the CPU 8 Pin power connector (connect either one if there are two) and mainboard 24 Pin power connector.
- Press the Q-Flash Plus button (location may vary by model) and the system will automatically search and match the BIOS file in the USB flash drive on the white USB port. The QFLED and the Q-Flash Plus button on the rear panel will flash during the BIOS matching and flashing process. Wait for 2-3 minutes and the QFLED will stop flashing when the BIOS flashing is complete.

The board also features 5 fan headers, 2 RGB headers, 4 SATA ports, and 1 m.2 slot. The only downside of this board is that it is only has a PCI express 3.0 slot not the 4.0 slot that the B550 motherboards have. That being said the future support for future AMD CPUs will be good due to this chipset being an A520. Do note that you can only use 3000 series chips and above on this motherboard. 2000 series and 1000 series will not boot on this board. You can flash a new bios onto this board for support for 5000 series chips without a CPU in. Simply use the easy flash feature of the board.

If you use the 16x or 8x all the 1x slots next to them don't work.
Let me get into more detail.
If I add anything to the 16x slot the 1x slot next to it doesn't work, not matter what is added to it. But that's to be expected because you're going to use a GPU and that's going to block it anyway. But anything else added there will make it disabled.
Now if you add anything to the 8x slot the (2) 1x slots below will become disabled. No matter what you add to the 8x everything below no longer works.
So in all you kind of have only 2 slots or 3 slots depending on what device you add to which slots.
Kind of disappointing.
Other than that the board isn't that bad if you don't care for the amount of devices you want to add inside.
I have a AMD Ryzen with built in GPU which I use along with 2 GPUs installed. So I'm able to use 3 GPU's in Blender.
If you're wondering how I got the 3rd GPU in there? That's thanks to the:
ADT-Link M.2 NGFF NVMe Key M Extender Cable to PCIE x16 Graphics Card Riser Adapter.
Works excellent!

The install went easy enough, with no real problems. This was for a 5600x CPU with 2x sticks of RAM. For the internet, I was utilizing a PCIe WiFi6 adapter w/ Bluetooth.
Software installs went well enough too. BUT HERE'S WHERE THE PROBLEMS BEGAN!!!
I managed to get all the basic software and OS installed via thumb drives with zero issues. Got connected to wifi and updated the OS and anti-virus definitions. After I was satisfied with how everything was working and that all updates were installed, I proceeded to start installing the Blizzard launcher so she could get CoD installed. About 30 minutes later she came downstairs and said her computer had stopped downloading CoD. "No Problem," I thought to myself. I just restarted the computer expecting it to be a glitch. Restart didn't help. The little globe you click on to select networks was nowhere to be found! I looked in the network. The adapter was nowhere to be found!! I completely re-installed windows and all previous drivers. This time however there was no option to connect to the wifi! I had done everything exactly as before!! No option to connect to wifi. I pulled her side off and verified the PCIe wifi adapter was properly seated and removed and re-installed the cabling. Re-installed Windows AGAIN and all mobo software and wifi drivers. NOTHING. The adapter wouldn't even show up. So I moved it to the PCIe 16x lane. NOTHING. I proceeded to look online for potential fixes which included a plethora of random options. Some of which I couldn't complete because the network adapter wouldn't show up. It was as if it was gone. I figured that maybe the adapter had gone bad. It WAS 6 months old and had been in her OLD PC. I just pulled it out and transferred it over. Bought a different brand PCIe wifi adapter. Re-installed windows and all mobo drivers. Installed wifi adapter drivers. NOTHING!!! It was at this point I gave up and determined it was 100% the motherboard. As it stands, the original PCIe wifi adapter worked for about 2 hours and then stopped.
Now onto my son's computer! (I'll go over the horrible CS email response at the end)
So my mother-in-law actually bought them the motherboards for their Christmas gifts, and I thought I was getting a great deal! Whoa boy. It was horrible.
So I built my son's computer. Basically, the same stats except I had to use his old video card due to how difficult it is in getting upgraded ones currently. Same type of wifi PCIe adapter. Only this time, it worked for about a week in his computer before just disappearing. Poof. His wifi adapter just stopped working. Needless to say I didn't even bother with all troubleshooting procedures as before. 2 DIFFERENT motherboards experienced the exact same issue.
Other than that, they were seemingly fine. After my son's computer stopped working, I just ordered some MSI B550 motherboards and processed the return on these. It's what I get for trying to save some money. While I was waiting for the replacements, I went to Walmart and bought some ethernet cables. The computers worked great. We are a gaming family though and my kids are all involved in e-sports. Stable wifi is an absolute must for their PC's. Especially considering I wanted to build these to last them for 5+ years.
Now onto to the email from their customer support. First of all, the response took 5 weeks. HOW ARE YOU GOING TO TAKE 5 WEEKS TO RESPOND?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!
For full disclosure, here is the message in its entirety:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Built daughter new PC. Installed Windows and mobo drivers from thumbdrive (No disc drive). I used drivers directly from website. Then installed video card drivers. Then wifi adapter drivers. After installing mobo drivers I proceeded to install drivers for TX50e wifi adapter and Bluetooth drivers. I was able to then connect to the internet where I proceeded to download windows updates. After windows updates were complete, I downloaded and installed Blizzard launcher. I then started download of new Call of Duty game. This was ALL done via wifi adapter. At no point did I ever use an ethernet connection. After a little over 1 hour of downloading game, my daughter came to get me and told me that the pc was no longer downloading the game. I went to click on the globe and there were no networks available to connect too. I restarted PC, and still no networks available. I reinstalled wifi adapter drivers. Restarted PC. Still no networks available. I formated the drive then re-installed windows 100% new. I thought maybe some of the mobo drivers I installed could've caused some problems, so I didn't install all of the utilities available like before. At this point, I only did the basic windows install, w/ app center (since it says install first, but wasn't' sure if needed), audio driver and LAN drivers. I then installed TX50e wifi drivers and Bluetooth drivers. No networks came up. I formated drive and re-installed windows AGAIN. Did same steps previously, and still no network available. I pulled adapter out of slot, and re-seated it. Had plugged in slot PCIEX1_2. I verified cables were seated properly. I thought maybe wifi adapter went bad. Ordered new one from Amazon on 11Jan. Once new adapter arrived, I formatted drive, I re-installed windows, audio driver, LAN driver, and proceeded to install the new wifi adapters drivers and Bluetooth drivers. This brand was EDUP. No networks show up as available. Had EDUP plugged into slot PCIEX1_2. Re-seated and verified cable properly connected. Still didn't work. Turned off PC and decided to move new wifi adapter to slot PCIEX2. Verified proper seating and cable insertion. Re-installed drivers and restarted PC. Still no networks showing up. Decided to run a long ethernet cable from PC to my home wifi station. Everything else is seemingly working fine. I was able to do all updates on PC and everything else with ethernet cable connected. No other issues as far as I'm able to discern. At least at this point. What is causing these wifi adapters to not work? Why did the one work fine for over an hour (close to 2 hours), then suddenly stop working? Is there an established issue regarding wifi adapters and the A520 motherboard? Appreciate any input and help available.

Their horrible response:
--------------------------
Dear customer,
A520 Aoris Elite MB has no build in WiFi and Bluetooth feature, If wire LAN connection works fine, it has no related to MB because the Wifi +BT device is add on.
You may test the add on Wifi interface device on other PCIE slot to rule out if issue to be the add on interface or particular slot on MB. Check if you can return the PCIE Wifi interface card use USB type Wifi connection device for result.
Best regards,
GIGABYTE technical support team.

"has no build in WiFi and Bluetooth feature,"
WHAT?!?! No doy there isn't built in wifi. I never asked or assumed there was. Why are they even bringing it up?!
"If wire LAN connection works fine, it has no related to MB because the Wifi +BT device is add on. "
What does this mean? Are you trying to tell me it's both new wifi adapters that went bad? Oh and the THIRD ONE I tried to install on my son's computer? So I just magically have 2!! PCIe wifi adapters that ALL WENT bad within 2 weeks and 2!!! NEW PCIe wifi adapter cards I bought that were bad? TOTALLY couldn't be your motherboards, right?! Give me a break!!
"You may test the add on Wifi interface device on other PCIE slot to rule out if issue to be the add on interface or particular slot on MB. "
LITERALLY DID THAT and I EVEN TOLD YOU THAT!?
ABSOLUTE GARBAGE COMPANY AND ABSOLUTE GARBAGE CUSTOMER SUPPORT. I can't even begin to express how idiotic their response is, based on my initial description.
Can you tell this angers me? OF COURSE IT DOES! I spent hours building 2x computers and then had to ultimately BREAK THEM DOWN and send these 2 garbage motherboards back. NO NO NO NO. Don't buy this garbage.
YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
20 years building computers and I've literally never had this issue. Then the response from customer service was just the icing on the turd cake. I will never buy Gigabyte again unless all of my other options are just not viable. Bottom of the pile here folks. Avoid at ALL COSTS.
