Can a variable ND filter also function as a polarizer filter?

Despite being composed of two polarizer filters, variable ND filters do not have any polarizing effect. When two pieces of glass are used in a variable ND filter, they work to limit the amount of light that reaches the camera sensor.

Can a lens hood with a variable ND filter be used?

VND filters cannot be used with a lens hood because they are typically larger than regular ND filters, designed to reduce vignetting.

Are there front threads on this VND?

VND filters do not have front threads, and stacking them with other filters is not recommended as it may result in vignetting.

Can these Freewell Threaded VND filters be attached magnetically?

I got the plastic case, not the aluminum case.
Mine came with the plastic case and not the nice aluminum hard case. You can see in the pictures that the filter moved around a lot during shipping. The filter is fine and looks great! Might have to go with PolarPro from here on out though. But the Freewell mist effect has more of the look that I want! Decisions, decisions..

I gave this 5 stars because I didn't want to discourage someone else from purchasing it based on my opinion of it. So here goes. The filter seems like it produces reasonably good results and the price is great compared to the PMPP edition II mist filters. However, I love the PMPP filter (no, not because it's got Pete's name on it.) they really do produce excellent results. To me it's worth the extra $$. My biggest issue with the Freewell filter is the storage case/lense cap situation. Basically it's terrible compared to the PMPP edition II lenses. I do really like the Freewell magnetic lense cap! However the fact that I can't put the filter in the case with the magnet lense cap on is enormously annoying to me. On the other hand the PMPP edition II lense cap/case situation is just awesome and is actually a pleasure to use. Not to be disrespectful but the genius that approved the freewill case design should be... Well you get the point. To me it's a big enough deal that I'm sending it back for a refund. And I'm going to spend 250 on the PMPP mist. If you don't think the case/lense cap will irritate you then I would say buy the Freewell. Freewell....please fix this issue - make the case a little bigger!

Excellent! Many reviewers said the case can't close with the cap on. I think they changed the design of the case because it works perfectly and fits in the case with the cap without problems.

Mist is great on the 2-5 stop version. Reviews have said the 6-9 has way more mist than the 2-5, which is awful because you want the set to match but I don't own the 6-9 and they may have changed it since then.

This is a great filter set. Pairs really well with the 50mm f1. 2 GM. The only gripe I have with it is that like all VNDs, it is larger and blocks the use of a lens hood. I do love that it came with sleek magnetic covers. That's a plus, and for the price of one of those overhyped polar pro Peter mckinnon editions, this 2 for one deal that matches the colors of the Sony Alpha line earned its 5 stars. If only they came our with one that had CPL and not mist....

I love the ND filter but I'm not too sure about the Mist Edition I think I like the 1st one alittle better but I'm still happy with this one too.
I bought the older version but I end up dropping it and it broke. So I thought I'd go ahead and try this version out and see if I like it I love the case and the fact that I can also put the lens cap and with the case and every time I put the ND filter and the case the little sticky pad I don't know what it's called helps get the dust off of it and keep it clean. I will say this skin tunes looks really good using you this filter.

Got the updated version as my last Freewell nd filter cracked after it fell off my tripod.

The updated version is amazing! The upgrade magnets are really strong and hold the lens cap really well- an issue I had with the last one.

The thing I prefer about the previous version is the “clear” nd. Although this has the same number of stops, the “clear” has some level of nd filter, just need to compensate via the ISO slightly

Der Filter an sich ist für seinen Preis sehr gut, wenn man wirklich zu hellen Stunden filmen muss. Ich habe bereits den 2-5 Stops Filter, der fast immer drauf bleibt. Entgegen einiger YT Videos finde ich, dass der Mist Effekt subtil genug ist, um ihn auch bei Auftragsarbeiten zu verwenden. Auch die Stärke des Misteffekts zwischen den 2-5 Stops und 6-9 Stops finde ich recht gleichmäßig.

Bei der ersten Lieferung bekam ich einen fehlerhaften (am Rand teilweise gebrochen). Bei der zweiten Lieferung passte es dann, mir wurde aber auch bewusst, dass es sich bei der ersten Lieferung um einen Rückläufer handelte, denn dieser war nur mit dem Metallcase in einer Folie, welche einen Aufkleber mit "Neu" aufwies. Bei der zweiten Lieferung war der Filter dann inkl. Metallcase im weißen Produktkarton verpackt und versiegelt. Enttäuschend, jedoch kommt das mittlerweile immer öfter vor. Ich habe bei Hersteller Shop mit Versand durch Amazon bestellt, da die Lieferung per 1-Tages Zustellung erfolgt.
