I've been using the UMARMUNG compression device for about a week now, and I'm very pleased with this product. It was more competitively priced with other options and it does precisely what I was hoping it would do, which is inflate and deflate at regular intervals for a massaging effect that helps with swelling and discomfort. For me, the lowest heat setting is more than enough for gentle warming, and if you follow the general rule of thumb to wrap the uninflated device snugly but not so snug that you can't fit a finger underneath, the pressure on the lowest setting isn't uncomfortable or painful. It runs for about 20 minutes before turning itself off, which is nice since using a device like this can be risky if you fall asleep with it on. I have found that when I use it at the end of the day, the swelling is greatly decreased, and I have less discomfort when I wake up in the morning. Definitely recommend this device.

I recently resumed walking after a layoff of over a year. Within a week of resumption, my calves started complaining - that was still tolerable. But when the muscles next to my shin bone joined in the protest, I knew I had to do something. Manual massage, ache balms, battery-powered focused massager - they all seemed to help a bit, but not to the extent that the pain would go away completely. Then my wife showed me this massager and I said - why not. The first time I tried it, I did not know what to expect. A quick read through the simple manual, and I was on board with its capabilities to massage the leg beneath the knee, or just a portion of it, and with different intensity levels with or without using heated air to aid in the recovery. I worked up the courage to try the highest intensity in the 3rd or 4th session - and it was something! So, my usual day has a session with the massager, preferably after the walk and that seems to rejuvenate the legs sufficiently. Sometimes it is one of the last activities of the day just before turning in for the night. Either way, it is helpful. What happens with it is that it pumps in air in different pockets (or all pockets) of the leg cover that encloses the leg and locks with velcro, and then the air is released after a while - it is this cycle that creates a sensation of the leg being massaged manually.

There is an extension part to the leg cover, for people who need extended coverage.

Overall, I found it a useful aid to keep me up to getting my daily steps and not complaining about achy legs. One thing to keep in mind - the velcro clasp is rather strong, so when you set it aside, make sure to make minimal contact between the two sides of the cover, else you would be pulling them off with considerable effort when the time comes for the next use. Also, do not let the velcro attach itself to the carpet on the floor - that makes for another noisy session subsequently.

Firstly: for anyone wondering about an on/off switch, all you need to do is press and hold the intensity (top) button.

I think I expected more of an up and down or circular motion like the massage chairs at the mall, but the sensation is actually very similar to an automatic blood pressure cuff. The squeezing is very powerful - most of the time, only the lowest intensity is needed. I think the highest intensity is actually a little painful.

The device is easy to use and fairly simple to figure out what the buttons are for. The extenders are a nice addition. I may use them in the future to massage my thighs too.

I appreciate the strong Velcro too, but boy is it noisy in a quiet home.

Having recently experienced an overnight hospital stay, I can say with authority this is nothing like the gentle sequential compression they use at hospitals. Based on that experience, I ordered this to relieve occasional lower leg cramping. First of all, I am not a frail or delicate person. Please keep that in mind when I say this is the opposite of gentle. More like a monster dragging you to the depths of hell by the ankles. The lowest setting is bordering on painful. Only two air chambers per leg, which do not act in sequence to move blood back up the leg. And here’s what takes it from “dumb” to “dangerous”: when the upper chamber inflates, it literally moves blood in the wrong direction, toward the feet, instead of toward the heart. No detailed instructions included outside of the quick-start card. Based on the control panel, seems this is intended for use as a foot massage as well, which is ridiculous. In that mode, all that happens is one air chamber squeezes your foot hard. I don’t know where all of these positive reviews are coming from (which is why I ordered), but clearly, these reviews are not based on the performance of the product I received. Immediately returning it.

With the velcro fittings, it takes a while to work with it, because the velcro kept attaching itself to certain types of cloth. It can be overwhelming to put on. Maybe after a bit of time you learn to work with it
