Importantly, the both my Window and Door contact sensors already had the new Thread firmware (purchased in July 2021). So I did not need to upgrade their firmware.
At first when I added an Eve contact sensor, it didn't trigger automations reliably. So I rebooted all my Eve Energy and HomePod devices. Since then they've been working flawlessly, every time, and near instantly. I have one contact sensor that turns on the hallway lights when the closet doors are opened, and turns them off when closed. I have another sensor on a slider that we only open up to let fresh air in. So I set up an automation to put our Ecobee into away mode to keep the AC or heat from turning on when we have the windows open. They've been extremely fast, triggering within a second of opening or closing. By using the Eve app I can see that so far these contact sensor Thread end-points are relaying their activity to an Eve Energy thread router that is about 30-40 feet away with several walls. That's impressive range and I'm surprised they're not routing through closer HomePod Minis or NanoLeaf Essentials bulbs. I plan on buying more of these devices soon as I can think of more practical, life improving things to do with them :-)

That said, this device is not without issues. In my home, there is a small but significant gap between the door and the part of the door jam where the magnetic part of the sensor goes. The sensor in the Eve unit is not very sensitive. When I initially installed it, there was a 50% chance that the door would actually register as being closed. I couldn't move the sensor and the magnet any closer together. I was worried that this wouldn't work ether. And then I decided to attach another rare earth magnet to the magnet, giving it a stronger magnetic field. That did the job. Eve either needs to make their sensor more sensitive, or pack more powerful magnets to cover all bases with installation.
On a positive note, I was extremely happy to see how well integrated this was with HomeKit. Once I connected the sensor to my HomeKit network, I saw that there was an update ready and it immediately started downloading and installed without any action from me. This is how these devices should work.
I have always heard that Eve's products were well designed, but I had always shied away from them because they weren't always the least expensive option. That said, this has been a very good experience for me, and I will buy more of these sensors as soon as I get the warm fuzzy that it will stay working after a week. (Being on the bleeding edge of Thread is not without its frustrations.)
Edit: not sure if this is an Eve or Apple issue (or both), but I spent several hours trying to figure this out. Turns out that if my AppleTV 4k gen 4 is the hub and connected over Ethernet, the Eve sensor will not connect. Setup and connection is good if my AppleTv is connected over WiFi. Reconnect Ethernet and Eve disconnects again. Also, I have a couple HomePod OGs and AppleTv 4k first gen’s and the Eve will not connect if any of these are the hub (AppleTv wired nor WiFi).

Note: You do need a hub of some sort. I use my second generation Apple TV 4K as a hub, but it also works with some devices from Amazon, Google and Samsung.
It runs off of a ER14250 battery which is included.
I use Eve Door & Window to be notified if someone in the family opens or closes a window at home. I can also check the Eve app to remotely see if I left a window open. I'm excited to use Eve Door & Window to setup automations for my next IOT project.

This is unacceptable at any price point, but it's worse at the premium they charge for their products.
