A sizzling second-chance romance from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author L.A. Casey—Frankie pushed her first love away. A decade later, he walks back into her life, but is she prepared to trust again?

When rock star Risk Keller shows up in Frankie’s diner with his heart on his sleeve, it turns her world upside down. Letting him go was the hardest thing she ever had to do. For years, his voice has been a reminder of everything she sacrificed, and now it’s time to face the music.

For Risk, coming home shows him what he’s always known deep down—every song, every gig, every drink, every girl—it’s always been about Frankie.

There’s no denying their intense chemistry. But Risk still has a career that takes him around the world; Frankie still has a sick mother she loves too much to leave. Can they overcome everything in their way to give first love a second chance?

This is why I love L.A. Casey’s books.
I got swept away by this second chance rockstar romance… SIGH 😍
I got completely swept away by the storyline, the characters so much so to the point where I remember telling my friends that I was the apple of the eye for a musician… I got some serious questionable looks from them hahaha
But seriously, if you are in a mood for a wonderful rock star/ musician romance, Echoes of the Heart is it.

DNF. Skimmed.

This didn't work for me at all.
I felt like I was reading a whattpad story, as by that I mean a teen author starting out.
The setting, accents and expressions weren't United, I couldn't work out if the author actually decided where it was based.
The speech was OTT.
The Hero is a man-whore with drugs etc.
I can't even be bothered with details.
Sorry maybe it's a case for its me not you.

I have loved many of LA Casey’s previous books so when I saw this come available on NetGalley I requested it right away.

Echoes of the Heart is a second chance love story. Frankie and Risk are best friends and high school sweethearts. But when Frankie’s mom gets diagnosed with Alzheimer’s at the same time Risk’s band gets their first big break, it’s clear their paths are diverging for the first time. Fast forward nine years, Frankie is still living in their small town taking care of her mom and working as a waitress when Risk comes back to town for the first time.

This was such a beautiful story of how two people who are meant to be together find their way back when life throws them apart. I loved both of these characters and honestly felt their pain and soul-deep love for each other. I flew through this book their story was so captivating.

Note: I will add a possible trigger warning for substance abuse and assault. I felt they were both handled well within the narrative but please be advised.

I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

ARC in exchange for honest review!!!

LA Casey has been one of my all time unicorn authors since as long as Dominic came out and nothing has changed there is not a book she has written i have not loved, so when i heard of this one i needed it asap and boy once again she did not disappoint.

This is the story of second chances, the one that got away, the what if?

Risk and Frankie where high school sweethearts when life changed for Frankie and she made what she thought was the right choice at the time, even if it broke her in two..

Now Risk is back and now a famous rock star, but once they see each other will the love they once had still be there ? Will Risk still be angry about how it all ended? will he be able to forgive and forget? This book had it all the heartbreak the passion the long lost love... She has done it again written another must read!!!

Flipping heck! This one packed a punch. It literally got me right in the gut. Caught off guard by my emotions throughout. It dealt with issues dear to my heart and as much as I needed to put the damn kindle down, I couldn’t, I was mesmerised. A second chance, rockstar romance with so much emotion, and not surprisingly, as is the case with me when it comes to LA Casey, I was in tears more than a couple of times. Emotional drama with rock star Risk Keller coming back to his home town and facing Frankie Fulton, his only love, his muse, and the woman who broke his heart. The heartache goes both ways though, and seeing each other after 9 years brings back all the memories, both good and bad. A wonderful story, beautifully written with perfectly imperfect characters that left me needing their happy ending, but with so many obstacles to overcome I wasn’t sure it was possible. A wonderful read.

Story 3.5 stars Narration 4 stars
This is the second book by this author I’ve read. I loved the first one, Until Harry(5 stars),but I thought this just wasn’t as good. Still a good listen but very predictable especially the last 40% of the book. I found myself saying out loud exactly what was going to happen and then I was right. The other thing was that I ended up not liking the hero. He kept doing the absolute worse things to cause way more drama. I was talking out loud about him as well. There’s a HEA but I just can’t imagine it staying that way. Every time they had a fight or broke up he would be so horrible to her or his self I can’t imagine that changing if it was real life anyway. By the way, he was the lead singer of a mega famous British rock group. His band members are his best friends and I did like that part of the book quite a bit. The camaraderie especially. The dual narration was done well and centered more on the female POV than on the male. It was definitely a adult read.

This is a 2nd chance romance, a quick and easy read by L.A Casey. The blurb sound interesting, unfortunately the story didn't quite grip me. I did kind of lose interested halfway and skimp through some pages. So it is kind of meh but not a total lost. The book might not be for me but it might be for someone else.

Thanks NetGalley for the copy, this is my unbiased review.

Echoes of the Heart by L.A. Casey a flavoursome five-star read. This one was a difficult one, as I loved 90% of the story, but I found the other 10% a struggle to read. I went for 5 stars overall as I enjoyed the majority so much. Frankie was the main reason I enjoyed this story, her empathy shone through the page, her relationship with her mother and step farther was some of the most heart-warming. Risk was your typical Rockstar, overnight success isn’t always a good thing, the rest of the band made me smile, they clearly wanted to succeed and want what is best for Risk, but what happens when the best thing may not be the right thing for everyone. There is so much raw emotion in this story, it will shatter your heart and leave the echoes pouring through the night.

This book is so beautifully heartbreaking that I didn't want to put it down. I adored Frankie, strong, loyal and true, she was a fantastic character who put everyone else before her. Reading about her struggles with her family and just in life in general broke my heart and I wanted, needed, her to get her HEA.

Risk's past was heartbreaking as well and through flashbacks, we see what he had to deal with and how Frankie and he supported each other first as friends then as more. I loved them together and I also mourned the breakup because they deserved so much more. I'm not a huge fan of flashback and there are quite a bit of them but the author did a great job incorporating them without breaking the flow up too much.

I didn't think the break-up itself (the reason, the aftermath, etc) was very believable given how much they loved each other. But that said, there had to be one, right, for this to be a second chance romance.

There are some difficult topics being dealt with, including drugs, abuse and of course, Frankie's mother's decline from Alzheimers. There are a few moments of levity but really, the heartfelt and emotional writing truly is what made this an unputdownable book. Fair notice, I spent the last 15% blubbering in tears but my heart is now full. Thanks to NetGalley for an early copy!!

This was ok. It started of great and then it got a little silly. Their main conflict at the climax of the story was over played resulting in an overly dramatic reaction from the H. So, there is a HEA, and at the end is worth reading, but I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the first in this series.
I also have to mention the narration. The female narrator wasn’t the best. Her reading is so melodramatic, that it adds to the feeling of silliness to this story. Her voice is whiny and pitchy throughout the whole book and it really grated on my nerves. I had to take breaks just to let my ears rest. At the end I was so ready to not listen to her that I was glad it was over.

Risk and Frankie are childhood sweethearts and Frankie holds Risks darkest fear of being found out what goes on at home throughout their childhood.

Risk is part of a band with his closest friends and they get the opportunity of a lifetime to record music but move to LA.

Frankie gets devastating news about her mother and she has to make decisions that will impact upon all of their lives.

9 years on brings a very different Risk home, how will this reunion play out. Absolutely no spoilers but this will keep you hooked and keep a set of tissues on hand. Thoroughly enjoyed this book and you won’t be disappointed if you download it

Love is heartbreaking?

In this emotional and heartbreaking book you’ll discover true loyalty, a daughters love and find out if two people were always meant to be.

I can honestly say that I cried for the first 50% of this book. The absolute anguish rolling page after page was torment. You’ll feel pain, sorrow and unending frustration for a lost love.

The author writing is flawless, and the words are so captivating, the plot had so many twists and turns and none that I was expecting, and many shockingly intimate I have become a huge fan of this author. The author writes with so much intensity and emotion pulled from each book it’s felt page after page. Some are quick witted story lines are so perfect and lets you believe you have a front row seat. So being able to read this love story didn’t disappoint. The authors ability to have two separate individuals struggling in their everyday life and try to navigate someone else’s thoughts, needs and desires was intense and gives all the fills.

Authors Blurb: When rock star Risk Keller shows up in Frankie’s diner with his heart on his sleeve, it turns her world upside down. Letting him go was the hardest thing she ever had to do. For years, his voice has been a reminder of everything she sacrificed, and now it’s time to face the music.
For Risk, coming home shows him what he’s always known deep down every song, every gig, every drink, every girl it’s always been about Frankie.
There’s no denying their intense chemistry. But Risk still has a career that takes him around the world; Frankie still has a sick mother she loves too much to leave. Can they overcome everything in their way to give first love a second chance?

This book has everything I love in a book. Then you add that it's beautifully written and believable. It is easily a five star read. Written in dual POV my personal favorite this story flows so incredibly well that the next thing you know your 80% into the book and loving every second of it. The believable way the characters interact is perfect. Run, Hop, Jump or use your (1 click) finger to do whatever you have to do and get this amazing book. It'll break your heart, you'll want to scream with frustration and it'll let you discover that love just might conquer all. The chemistry is steamy and sweet and oh so romantic.

Frankie Fulton never got over her first love, and the inconvenient fact that he is a world famous rock star means that she will always be reminded of the boy she loved with all her heart, but could never fully have.

Risk Keller has yet to return to his hometown of Southwold, England. In the nine years since he and his band, Blood Oath, left it all behind for the opportunity of a lifetime, he has avoided the town... and one person in particular... his one and only, Frankie.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Echoes of the Heart was an emotional and heartbreaking, second chance romance. When Risk, the rockstar returns home and reunites with Frankie, the woman he left behind, their old feelings come roaring back, but the reason they broke up in the first place has never really changed. And while they share a true love that will never fade, Frankie and Risk were just never meant to be...
Although Frankie loves Risk with everything she has, she could never leave her life in Southwold, or her sick mother, to be with him on his road to success. And when holding him back was never an option, Frankie did the unthinkable, and let him go. But in the years since they last saw each other, Frankie has been a shell of her former self without the man she loves by her side.
Risk has done everything he can to numb himself and forget the heartbreak he suffered at the hands of Frankie, and yet, every song he writes seems to focus on the same woman he just can't seem to let go. Returning to Southwold, he knows he will most likely see her again, but he wasn't expecting the sheer magnitude of feelings he still has for his one and only love.
This book is guaranteed to tear your heart out and oh-so-slowly, put it right back together again. Frankie and Risk were once entirely devoted to each other and had a relationship built on trust and understanding. But with time and the complications of life, their love turns into something too painful for either of them to focus on, so they both find a way to move on with their lives.
When Frankie and Risk were getting along, I absolutely loved their sexy and hilarious dynamic, and the way they just seemed to fit each other. But when their relationship started falling apart, the toxicity between them holds no bounds. These two both have a lot of healing to do, and in the end, they must discover a way to move on for good, or change their lives completely...
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
Echoes of The Heart is the first book I’ve read from L.A. Casey. For some reason I thought it would be a romcom and while in some parts this book is funny especially the banter between the Risk and the other members of the group, It is so much more. It’s a tale of first love and second chances. Of doing the right thing even though it breaks your heart. Frankie and Risk met at High School. Risk had a terrible childhood with abusive foster parents while Frankie, despite the loss of her father had always known love. They started off a friends but it was soon obvious to everyone that they were so much more. They were each other’s firsts & if the Gods had been listening they would have been each other’s only. Unfortunately fate had other plans for them. Just as Risk’s music career is about to take off, events involving Frankie’s mother means that she has to make the biggest sacrifice of her life and let Risk go to follow his dreams knowing it will break her heart. When he comes back into her life 10 years later the chemistry and love is still there but will the past stand in their way.
At first glance this story could be a bit of a stereotype. First time loves break up and she stays close to home living only half a life almost as if she’s Sleeping Beauty waiting on her Prince to awaken her with a kiss while the said prince is living the rock star life style with all the obligatory drink, drugs and meaningless sex on tap. When he finally does come home he blames Beauty for his screw ups. What makes this story so much more is the raw emotion the author has managed to imbue into her words. Yes, Risk is a total git for the way he treats Frankie when they first meet again but he’s hurting and lashes out trying to make her feel as bad as he does. He didn’t understand what it cost her to let him go. I cried when I read Frankie’s text messages and was praying Risk would somehow manage to see them. I became invested in these characters and was desperate for them to find some way of being together. This might be the first book I’ve read by this author but if they’re all as good as this one it definitely won’t be the last.
Storia molto coinvolgente poi se si parla di musica, vado letteralmente matta per questo genere di letture. Aspettavo il nuovo anno con ansia per l'uscita di questo libro e l'attesa ne è valsa la pena. La storia di Frankie e Risk è una storia d'amore di quelle epiche nate tra i banchi di scuola che è cresciuta con i protagonisti. Un punzecchiarsi dolce e frizzante che da semplici amici e spalla su cui piangere li ha portati ad essere due innamorati giovani e certi del loro amore. L'amore significa sacrificio e Frankie sa bene cosa vuol dire. Lei ha dovuto prendere una decisione che ha portato lontano da lei l'unico e vero amore della sua vita, Risk. Per il suo bene, ma il dolore è cocente e vivido anche dopo tanti anni. La sua rockstar del cuore ha fatto strada e ora è pronto per ritornare nella loro piccola cittadina, che ha visto nascere, crescere e anche finire il loro amore. Ho sentito molto il dolore della perdita che i protagonisti hanno vissuto in vari momenti della lettura e questo me li ha resi molto cari e vicini. Quello che non mi è tornato a tratti e creare un drama per nulla. O almeno io non ho compreso appieno la motivazione. C'era già parecchia carne sul fuoco per creare una storia bella senza strafare e creare ulteriori disagio. Questo aspetto mi ha molto indispettito e anche con dispiacere perché la narrazione mi ha subito intrappolato nella sua ragnatela. I protagonisti mi sono piaciuti molto. Risk, la rockstar dannata e come tutte le super star è caduta e ora torna sul luogo del delitto. Lui incarna, il protagonista che amo incontrare in un libro. Il protagonista che parla delle sue emozioni attraverso le sue canzoni. Frankie è la ragazza buona e disposta a tutto per difendere il prossimo. Ho amato il suo senso del sacrificio. Ben delineati anche se secondari, ho amato anche gli altri personaggi del libro che insieme a Risk e Ciliegina costruiscono la trama fitta di dolore e amore della storia. Finale un po' scontato. Bello anche se forse too much. Carino ma non indimenticabile. Cmq si merita un bel 4 stelle perché ha saputo intrattenermi molto e si fa leggere.
Echoes of the Heart, L.A. Casey
Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews
Romance
Genre: Romance, general fiction ( adult)
I've enjoyed several of this authors books, and of course the rock star romance genre and second chance stuff always hooks me. I enjoyed this but not quite as much as I expected.
My heart broke for young Risk, and for how good Frankie was with him. Then when they were older I understood Frankie's reasons for pushing Risk away, I agreed with them even, and yet somehow it irked me. I couldn't understand how Risk didn't see it, why he was so resentful.
He was all about everyone leaving him, very focused on that even years later. Still, you need to walk in someone's shoes to truly understand their actions. Both Risk and Frankie were still clearly very much in love.
The big thing that breaks them was something I struggled with, I really didn't see why it was such a problem. Though of course there has to be something doesn't there or we'd get a very bland romance, and I'm all about the break up dramas....
Frankie's mum, Michael, and the problems they had with her illness were heartbreaking. Its such a cruel disease, so hard on families more so than the person affected. Living bit not living, her mum, his wife and yet not that person. Tough and they were so good with her. For many its just too much to deal with, but they stuck by her no matter how hard.
I loved the other lads in the band, the band issues, the drug problems and the rabid fans. For me they all belong in a proper band read, and make the book stand out.
Its a fun read, just didn't quite grip me as much as others I've read. I loved the setting, Southwold is about 50 miles from e, and a place I've holidayed at many times. It was fun to read it as the setting for fiction romance.
Stars: Four, a fun band read, great characters, brilliant setting!
This is a second chance rockstar romance.
Frankie and Risk have loved each other since they were 13 years old, it started as friend love and progressed into something so much more. Unfortunately for our young couple, life hit them with some serious obstacles that forced them to be apart, but 9 years later Risk is back home and things get complicated again.
First, I want to say this book totally attacked all my feelings and even made me teary eyed a few times. The love they had for each other was so strong, it build them up when they were together, but also had the power to completely destroyed them when they weren't. Frankie was such a strong character, she was handed heartbreak too many times and she just keep going on with her life; she gave up her soulmate to handle the soul crushing illness that was consuming her mother. Risk, I really wanted to smack this dude for his childish behavior, but his story is just as complicated as Frankie's with some traumatizing experiences thrown in.
I did feel at times the push and pull was a bit much and maybe just thrown in for a bit more drama between our couple. You would think two people who loved each other that much and suffered that kind of heartbreak would at least have a decent conversation about the past to avoid misunderstandings. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case and the miscommunications led to more suffering between Frankie and Risk, but this time it seemed to hurt them more. Thankfully, their friends (aka Risk's band) were able to be there for them and help them.
I would have absolutely loved an epilogue to see how everyone was doing and how their lives turned out especially May, with crazy playboy antics.
Just a warning, this book deals with drugs, child abuse and Alzheimer's disease.
Tutto inizia con un prologo in cui vediamo Frankie che scopre la malattia della madre e nella stessa settimana lascia il suo fidanzato per permettergli di inseguire i suoi sogni. Ora sono passati 9 anni e Risk è diventato una famosa rockstar insieme ai suoi amici e Frankie si prende ancora cura di sua madre che sta affrontando gli ultimi stadi dell' Alzheimer. Lei per 9 anni non ha mai voluto ascoltare una canzone della band perché ascoltare la voce di Risk le avrebbe fatto troppo male, ma dopo 9 anni se lo ritrova di nuovo in città.
Anche per Risk è stata dura dimenticare Frankie e lo ha fatto solo tramite alcol e droga e stando assolutamente lontano dal suo paese d'origine ma ora è tornato e rivederla tiporta tutto a galla. Tra i due ci sarà prima un pò di attrito ma la chimica è innegabile ma come potranno superare le difficoltà dovute alla distanza visto che lui dovrà girare il mondo e lei restare a badare sua madre?
Questo romanzo mi è piaciuto anche se ha i suoi difetti. Ci sono scene che mi hanno fatto piangere e altre in cui mi sono davvero incavolata, ma andiamo per ordine...
Di Frankie ho apprezzato il suo amore per la madre; il suo non arrendersi alle difficoltà; il suo saper perdonare e il suo altruismo. Di Frankie non ci sono cose che non mi sono piaciute anche se il motivo della rottura è stato abbastanza stupido.
Di Risk ho amato che sia rimasto un ragazzo normale nonostante sia una celebrità; adora i suoi amici ed è grazie a loro se è vivo. Ecco l'uso di alcol e droga non mi è piaciuto sopratutto non mi è piaciuta la ricaduta e il motivo di tale ricaduta.
Il romanzo in generale mi è piaciuto ma gli è mancato quel quid che ti faccia dire wooooow.
Il mio voto è 🌟🌟🌟1/2
Echoes of the Heart by L.A. Casey
Four Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Echoes of the Heart by L.A. Casey is a standalone contemporary second chance Romance that I really enjoyed. I was surprised, because I don’t usually like a rock star hero. But, this one worked for me.
After a passionate teenage love affair, Frankie breaks up with Risk to allow him to pursue his dream of becoming a rock star as she stays in their small seaside town of Southwold, UK to care for her mother. After nine years, Risk walks back into Frankie’s life, and their passion for each other resurfaces.
This book was fun and emotional to read. I don’t usually like a book with a rock star as the hero, their hedonistic lifestyle doesn’t usually make a good romantic story, however for this book, it worked.
The banter between Frankie and Risk, and among the bandmates was funny and lighthearted, it was a good contrast for the emotional, intense love story between Frankie and Risk. I also enjoyed the relationship between Frankie and her stepfather. I liked the way they joined forces to support each other through Frankie’s mothers illness.
The love story between Frankie and Risk is very intense, steamy, and chaotic. Risk came from a foster home and never knew true love until he met Frankie as a teenager, there separation as teens was something neither got over, even though they wanted to forget each other.
I recommend this book for a strong emotional read with lighthearted, funny scenes that break up the intense love story.
4 Stars for this second chance rockstar romance!
Frankie and Risk were in love when they were teenagers. But when they were 18, Frankie's mom was diagnosed with Alzheimers which changed Frankie's life. Risk has been abused in his foster home since he was five, but he kept it a secret so that he could stay with his friends as they were all he had. Risk and his friends were in a band and when he was 18 they moved to LA for a record deal ... leaving Frankie behind. Frankie broke up with Risk because she didn't want to ruin his chance at fame. After years of drug and alcohol abuse, Risk has been sober for six months when they go back to their hometown to celebrate their music teacher's retirement. He thought he was over Frankie ... he was wrong! She is embedded in his heart. Frankie never stopped loving Risk, but their lives are so different and they are different people ... but the chemistry is still there.
This book is very emotional with Frankie's mom having Alzheimers ...because I have first-hand knowledge about that awful disease. Then there's the sweet romance between Risk and Frankie. I found it very endearing that after all the years they were apart, they still had that instant connection. This book made me laugh a little, cry a lot and swoon in between. It would have gotten more stars, but I just found a few parts where I said to myself "really ... you're doing that because of something so inconsequential". But I love rockstar books, especially ones with a second chance.
A definite drama and angst filled second chance romance. I loved the devotion the characters had for each other, even when Risk was being a dumbass it was clear how Frankie was on his mind. Honestly, I would have loved the entire thing if it wasn’t a repeat loop of miscommunication, impulse reaction and downward spiral. Frankie was great, I loved how easily she loved and cared for other. She definitely helped contribute to mistakes being made but even then she tried to put everyone first and still did everything she could to support Blood Oath. Risk, it was easy to see he struggled over Frankie. Even when he was young and stupid he was completely devoted and with his past it was easy to see how he slid to a darker place when she broke up with him. Unfortunately, I was expecting more from him when he came home. He was sober and kept speaking about how clear his head finally was but then he would overreact to everything that involved Frankie… I’m sorry, if a girl runs to escape seeing you for the first time in a decade it most likely means she is struggling to move on, not that she doesn’t care about you at all… all of his reactions and consequent vengeful comebacks just seemed like something I would have expected from his character when he was still drunk or high, not sober.
Even though some of the push and pull wanted me to step back from the story, Will Watt and Sienna Frances kept me hooked. Their narrations added so much to the story and really brought out the emotions of the characters.
Okay so this is kind of a tough review to write. This is my first book by this author and I was pleasantly surprised how easily hooked in to the story and characters I was. I found myself not wanting to put my kindle down. I was 100% invested in the story line and the characters. Overall, I still feel that way even after reading the story. The writing is well done, and I loved the friendship between Frankie and the band members from when they were younger. I loved the relationship that formed between Frankie and Michael that flourished in the face of such devastation. I loved the strength of the bond between Frankie and Risk that was developed when they were just teenagers and stayed with them through so many trials and tribulations and time and distance. This book was really a 5 star book for me until the last major conflict scene between Frankie and Risk and its connection to substance use. While I think everyone who struggles with addiction has their own personal journey, there are common themes especially with regard to recovery, and I don't think those were adequately or realistically depicted in the story and I struggled with that when it came to the story. I would definitely like to read another book by the author as I was really enjoying the story for a good 75% of the book so I look forward to trying another read.
