    Outstanding sound and versatility
I was running a Spider Line 6 for years and was using it for jam sessions. It was a 30 watt amp. I saw this amp for 200 bucks, and picked it up after some research. I immediately was impressed with the build quality, exactly what you'd expect from Marshall. I was also using a Boss ME70 multi effects processor with the Spider. Well, I ended up ditching both of them after hearing this amp. You'll see a lot of people in the reviews bashing the cabinet modeling, but I can honestly say every sound that comes from this amp can be seriously impressive if you spend time to tweak and understand signal processing and how it works. So, there IS a learning curve to using this amp- you Can just pull it out, plug it in, and jam to it...but if you really want to tailor the sound to your preference, then you need to spend time adjusting settings. It's a piece of cake with the Bluetooth and MyMarshall app and website. I use that primarily to do all my editing and changing names of banks to suit my playlist.I also ended up getting the CODE 4 way footswitch, which makes doing all this on the fly and activating individual sounds in the same bank a piece of cake live. This amp is surprising light (weighs almost as much as my old Spider did), pushes out some serious volume for a 50 watt, and just looks really classy. I haven't yet tried to record with it, but I have hooked it up to my computer with a short USB to do a firmware update. I'd recommend getting a 6' USB for that, as well as hooking it up to a computer to run through a DAW. There isn't a dedicated output on the amp, so the USB will serve that purpose I suppose, and go right into the computer without using an interface. Not sure if there will be a lag issue doing it that way, but time will tell.So far, this amp is incredible. It makes my budget Ibanez sound like a 2000 guitar. I was going to upgrade the guitar, but this was a much cheaper and better alternative!RECORDING UPDATE: I used a USB to hook directly to my Mac and into Garage Band. I adjusted an input setting and the DAW recognized the instrument and played with no delay. I had to tweak Garage Band settings to use as clean of an electric channel as possible so the amp modeling and setting worked real well alongside the DAW. So I can truly say that this amp is a great all around amp for practice, live settings, and digital studios. Very easy and outstanding Marshall sound quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Custom edits save this gem
Reviewed in the United States on May 4, 2018
Started off iffy, finished off blowing me away. Mandatory trick to sounding best: turn Cab simulations OFF. They don't sound right. Once you have those disabled, edit away to your liking.
You must DIAL IN your tone on this beast (especially by adding "presence"). Give it a chance. I was tempted to return it after hearing the presets (all 100 of them). The first preset, 01, is actually the warmest clean tone I have ever heard, but the other 99 struggled. If you're after a beautiful clean, get this amp. My hard metal tone is 90% there with this thing. Reviews have stated (and accurately at that) that this amp sounds "boxed in" and muffled. The same held true for me at first and I KNEW that this could not be possible using Celestion 12 inchers, so I tried every button. It took hours, but once you click and hold POWER and edit your PRESENCE you will hear the speaker cut through the box. I have absolutely no idea why Marshall would have all of their presets at 4/10 "presence". Most people want their speaker to be clear and have presence, so I dialed this up to a 9 and was completely saved and happy! Not only did I reverse my decision to return this amp, but it is now the best thing that I own.
You can 100% customize your tone from clean all the way to the sickest metal tone. How? By pressing and holding the pre fx button, amp, power, and cab buttons, you can literally transform your sound into anything. I am not sure if a lot of people know this, because yes by just listening to the presets you will for sure hate the amp. Increasing presence and adding a small "delay" is necessary. For pre-fx, the "guvnor" distortion wins. For an amp, "Plexi" is the most pure and Marshall 100 watt sounds best for hard rock and metal. I was able to get the most pure sounding metal noise out of this after editing all of these buttons. The clean and rock sounds from this amp are easy to obtain, but the metal took a bit of work. I have attached a small video example of the best tone I was able to get.
This is the best valued dollar for dollar amp on the market, and of course it is solid and Marshall quality, pretty and professional to look at.

PROS: incredible tone, seemingly infinite editing possibilities for any tone, compact, sturdy, quality. Would recommend to anyone that needs a powerful practice amp that sings through a Celestion 12 inch screamer. This 50 watt version is loud enough for small venues like churches or bars, no question about it.

CONS: tedious to edit exact tone, although worth it. Some, including me, dislike the controls on the top versus front facing. An open back (this one is sealed) might help this combo sound more free. Marshall has their "presence" at a factory 4/10 which probably puts off most listeners who judge based off of the presets.

4.0 out of 5 stars Marshall beauty
Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2024
I just received my Code 50 from UPS and it's a beautiful thing. I powered it on and looked through the presets I can't wait to try the JCM 800 out but I'm having to have some work done on my Ltd KH 202 just some minor pickup work. I will come back and post my final review once I get to plug in and play. Man it's so nice to look at and not as heavy as I first thought. If you buy this buy brand new so you have the warranty and instructions not to mention not a scratch on it. It's my first Marshall and I've been playing on and off about 40 yrs. You will fall in love with this bad boy and another thing I thought it was only a 50 watt amp but on the back where your power cord goes it says 75 watts even better. I'm only giving 4* now mostly because of the sheer beauty and construction of this thing but like I said I probably won't get to play for a couple weeks which will drive me mad waiting to try it out. I don't think you can go wrong with this amp as it's all the power your ever gonna need even with a full band. Thanks Jim Marshall for such a beautiful high quality amp. I know you wouldn't put your name on it if it wasn't a badass little beast.
