When you kill a demon there are consequences.

Centuries-old witch, tattoo artist, half-demon… none of those titles are going to save me this time. The only way I’m going to get out of my death sentence is to take down the biggest, baddest demon there is… My father.

Daughter of Souls & Silence
is the second book in the Rogue Ethereal series and continues the story of Max and her friends.

Daughter of Souls & Silence began right where Woman of Blood & Bone ended and I couldn’t help myself by finishing it in two days. The story was so fast paced and enjoyable to read, just like the first book.

It was no surprise that I was going to love Daughter of Souls & Silence because this was already the third book I read written by Annie Anderson and I loved her two other books. The story is just so interesting and amazing and I loved the multiple perspectives!

Daughter of Souls & Silence was an amazing sequel with yet another beautiful cover, and I cannot wait to read the third book!

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

Okay I think this one just might be better then book one. We pick up right where it ended with her having to go before the council for killing Micah. Well of course she has to change things to go her way but the council has a hidden agenda that includes her father. Given a task she cannot stand she has to figure out a way to make everyone happy while still being true to herself. Great world building and so full of surprises it will really keep you guessing. If you like fantasy I bet you will like this one. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.

Daughter of Souls & Silence is the second audiobook in the Rogue Ethereal series and continues the story of Max and her friends.

As I mentioned in my audiobook review of the first book, I love the Rogue Ethereal series and I really enjoyed listening to the audiobook. The same goes for the second book, Daughter of Souls & Silence. I loved listening to Cassandra Parker’s voice and listening to Max’ crazy words and thoughts. I think that Cassandra Park did a great job with the audiobook!

So this is only my second audiobook ever, but I think I’m becoming a fan. It’s so nice to listen to Max’ story on my way to work or doing adult stuff like laundry and cooking. I can get some reading time done when normally I would listen to music. And since Daughter of Souls & Silence is so interesting, it was hard to stop listening. There were moments when I was just sitting on the couch doing nothing while listening to the audiobook. This book was just so suspenseful!

I really loved the Daughter of Souls & Silence audiobook, and I loved getting back into Max’ world. I also want to say that I love the new covers. The old ones are beautiful but these ones are even more beautiful! I highly recommend the Rogue Ethereal series and I’m so excited to listen to the next audiobook, Lady of Madness & Moonlight!

Daughter of Souls and Silence picks up right where book 1 ended. Max has found herself again in hot water between the supernatural council trying to force her to murder her absentee father and someone trying to steal the bone blade. In typical Max fashion she deals with everything going on in her own way.
Similar to book 1, this book was very fast paced and we got to see Max willing to sacrifice herself to keep the people she loved safe, even if it meant possibly sacrificing her own life.
We met Max's younger sister, Maria, again in this book, when Max rushes to save her when she calls for help. It was refreshing to see the relationship between Maria and Max, and I am looking forward to see them build a stronger sibling relationship in the upcoming books. Max deserves to have atleast one decent family relationship, since both her parents have a long way to go before she ever trusts them.
I would have loved to have seen more Striker during this book. I am happy, he has finally returned and hope we see more of him in book 3 as he rebuilds Max's trust in him and deals with his grief due to Melody's death. I missed Striker and Max's platonic relationship from book 1 and how they had each others back.
I don't know where to begin with Ian in this book. I had alot of different reactions related to him from anger to sympathy. He really just wants to be in her life and protect her, and Max is not the kind of girl that needs someone to play knight in shinning armor. Also, Max and Aiden annoyed me alot with how they treat Ian. For the two people who claim to care about him the most, they are so concerned about keeping him physically safe that they don't seem to care that they are emotionally hurting him. Also, it bugged me the entire book that although Max is his mate, he was willing to let Aiden dictate when he goes to Max's aid. We saw that when they were rescuing her sister and again when he let Aiden convince him to stay behind during the rescue mission for Max's mom. I am looking forward to seeing how Ian's relationship with Max develops in the upcoming book. Hopefully we have more POV from Ian, as I really wanted to hear what he was thinking in the last few chapters.
There was one part of the book that that continued to bug me after I finished the book, which was Aiden's reaction when Max died. Max and Aiden went to rescue her mother from Max's dad, and on the way they are attacked by Micah and the souls released by bone blade and Max dies temporarily in Aiden's arm. During the period between Max dying and her waking up, we read in Aiden's POV and that is where it gets weird. Aiden who has spent majority of book 2 vocally expressing that he wants Max to exit Ian's life and has shown no real interest in Max's well being in either book 1 or majority of book 2, is all of a sudden devastated by her death. His reaction to her death and overprotective nature while she was being brought back felt very forced and out of character to the point that even Andras thought Aiden was her mate based on his reaction.
Overall this was a very good book and I can't wait to read book 3.

This one didn't quite live up to its predecessor.

A few problems that already peaked through in the first book fully bloomed in this one.
Having an extremely powerful MC makes it hard to create threatening situations.
The previous book was largely able to skirt the issue by throwing her into the chaos unprepared.
There just was no time to plan or to predict.
In this book, she had time to actually train and prepare for most situations that turn out to be dicey and how did she prepare as the by far most powerful witch on the planet? Practicing swordplay. Of course. *Head vs table*.
No research into all the daemons and how to counter their magic. No research into anything at all that might possibly defuse dangerous situations in the future. Yea, she is an untrained rouge, but apparently, she has acquaintances that aren't that should be able to get their hands on at least some useful information considering how much knowledge of the supernatural world they all are constantly withholding from her still. Even tho she is not the typical tstl-type character she truly is tstl. Or maybe it would be more accurate to say she is too sloppy and lazy to live?

In the fight scenes, there is a really disappointing theme more and more apparent. Initially, she gets her ass handed to her and then for some stupid reason, she is able to win or escape or something.
It takes any and all tension out of these supposed-to-be tense situations because I as a reader know now that the threat, as well as the outcome, entirely relies on the whim of the author and the capabilities of the protagonists are completely irrelevant.

I already talked about the trust and betrayal thing in my review of the first book but it came up again in this one. Apparently, the author herself doesn't really know what to think about it all. In one section it seems the only reason for their separation is Strikers' grief. In another, it's a feeling of bone-deep betrayal.
This is a general theme regarding a lot of the feels in this book. It's all inconsistent with no visible reason for her constantly changing viewpoint and mood.
One minute she is raging, the next she is sighing and accepting. It was impossible for me to follow.

There is another issue that requires some spoilers to address.

I can't deny that I've seen this coming but after the first book was able to largely dodge all these typical issues I had hope, but alas it wasn't to be.
I won't continue reading this series after this less-than-stellar second book.

Killin' me!

In classic Annie style, she left me guessing. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, nope. I refuse to leave spoilers, but I will say, this one is even more action packed than the first, and even better, if that's possible. So, I need book 3 already because I have to know what happens next. The suspense is killing me. While it's not necessarily a cliffhanger, it is a question I want answered, but Annie enjoys our tears. Lol. She's awesome like that, and it's what makes her such an amazing author.

Wow

What an amazing book. I absolutely love this better than the first one. It keeps getting better and better. I feel so bad for Stryker to lose the love of your life it's a hard thing. I watch my mother deal with it everyday. And I wouldn't wish it on anyone. It's amazing how he kept going. You know what they say don't judge a book by its cover? Sometimes things are not what they seem. So don't make any substance with this book as you're going to get one heck of a surprise. Now I'm off to get book 3

This Rogue is a force to be reckoned with. Half witch and half demon and all protector. She may have had a rough start in life, but she is all heart. This heroine and her reluctant group of heros does everything in their power to make good triumph over evil.

I love this series. Annie Anderson wrights amazing stories about kick ass women. And the romance is pretty awesome as well. Rogue Ethereal #3 can not come out fast enough. I am hooked.

Loved this book - more action than book 1, but full of more Max and that is the best part of all. Page turner all the way. I just can't get enough of the story and stayed up way to late finishing the book. Just when I think I have it figured out, Annie throws something in there to surprise me. You won't be disappointed with this series. Thanks for another great one Annie!

I’ve got a bunch of gripes with this book and so haven’t decided how to frame them yet so for now, here’s just a whole list. Skip the bullet points if you want to cut to the chase.

- The cut and paste of an entire flashback from the first book into this book was wholly unnecessary, even if it was done to remind the reader. It doesn’t work.
- We are told and not at all shown that Max has been training with Aiden in her combat skills. This brief mention is supposed to explain why Aiden cares all the of a sudden.
-Later in the story, it’s revealed that Max has all these knives. You’re telling me she has a collection of weapons, has lived for 400 years, has died 169 times saving other people, but has never learned how to handle herself in combat…
-Max rips apart the Arthur in rage and then knots it back together like nothing happened at the snap of her fingers, but she can’t fix her tattoo shop…
- Somehow, we are supposed to think that Ian is an ass in the beginning of the story when all he has to ever done is cover Max’s ass. He is a definite ass by the end but that does not make up for the confusion.
- Max’s mother tells her in book one that she cares and had to hide her and that’s why she banished her. Then Max is surprised to learn this once again in book 2.
- Max throws a temper tantrum and plans to learn her home and her friends because Ian not telling her about their kiss is the last “betrayal” that she can take. Max is 400+ years old. Even if she has issues, this is childish and confusing for her character.
- Max acts as though Ian is immature for only being 100+ years old. This would work if she weren’t an insufferable child herself.
- Ian claims that he will help Max, but that he is done with her afterwards. Then he just disappears from the story and is replaced with his brother.
- Max has a little half sister all of a sudden that abandoned her 400 years ago and apparently she really cares about her?
-Max’s parents are evil. No they’re not, yes they are, no they’re not, yes they are. This is not compelling.
-Bernadette says that releasing the souls from the dagger is a good thing. (Not sure how they got there in the first place since the dagger was supposedly not put together with the demon spell before Max got it) Anyway. She says it’s a good thing but it is decidedly not and it’s not implied that she’s lying either so…who even knows what’s happening with that

“Just because” logic
Plot Discontinuity
Contradictory character traits
Undeveloped character relationships

None of these things work to make a cohesive story. 2 stars because this book is not just all bad, hot garbage. There’s potential here. I genuinely enjoyed a lot of the dialogue. The characters abilities and species are interesting. The plot had me wanting to finish to know what happens. However. A lot of the moments and twists could have meant something but they didn’t because these relationships are all over the place. Max could have been a compelling character but her motivations, traits, and decision are not clear. Overall, this sequel is disappointing and I will not be continuing this series.

It is just so stinking hard for me to review Annie Anderson's books! I always feel like I have been drained emotionally after reading them! But, that is one reason that I absolutely, positively love to read them!

Our heroine, Maxima (better known as Max) has been called before the Council for killing a demon. First of all, Max didn't even know there was such a thing as the Council. And, secondly, didn't Micah deserve to die? To top it off, she used a forbidden bone blade to do it and everybody is after that blade.

Max is a Rogue Ethereal, half Witch and half Demon, and even though she is over 400 years old, she still has issues with both her parents. Instead of being able to just live her life as a tattoo artist, she keeps being drawn into battles with otherworldly creatures that she didn't even know existed.

Add in the complication of a possible lover in Ian, his brother Aiden (who really doesn't want their relationship to happen) and loads of demons from Hell, and you just have another typical day in her life. Oh, and don't forget her b***h of a Mother, her Demon of a father, and a sister that she hasn't seen in years (just to complicate things!).

The description of the Demonic Corax is truly horrifying and I will probably never feel comfortable when I see a crow after reading this book. And, this cover? AMAZING! I just love it! I would buy the book just for the cover!

Two quotes that really stick with me:
"Judgment comes to all who enter."
"You should know, poppet, even death doesn't break a contract."

Ms. Anderson has a wonderful writing style, with just the right mixture of action, humor bordering on snarkiness, and foul-mouthed heroines that make me keep coming back for more. Each of her characters deserve a book of their own and I hope that she continues writing for a long, long time! Now, I need a glass of wine to relax after this fast-paced ride along with Max and her friends!

I wish I could be like Max. Stare danger in the face, laugh, snap my fingers and wait for the inevitable explosion of mayhem.

Max is trying to make sense of her life. She feels that she should leave town and start somewhere new. Everyone seems to be keeping secrets and she’s not sure where to turn. When she is tasked with killing her father and saving her estranged mother, she remains defiant till the bitter end. Amidst all this she is still struggling with her feelings about Ian. Aiden acts like he’d rather see her dead then with his brother. She learns a secret that has been long kept and now she really feels out of sorts.

I’ve said it before I love Maxima. She has a heart under all that rough exterior. She just needs someone to love her and while she acts like she doesn’t deep down she is lonely. I wanted to see more of Ian dang it! I know this is Max’s story, but I just love his strength and well him in general. He is going through a transition as and I hope it works out in the next book. I like that Max is faced with some life altering decisions. It gave the story some more depth. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book!! I know everything Annie Anderson writes will be a journey full of action and heart. I have a lady crush on Maxima and Annie! I can’t wait to see where the next adventure takes us.

First off, I love Annie Anderson. Second, I love Max. This is the second book in this series and they must be read in order. Max is in trouble again. The council has passed judgement however there is a way to escape this death sentence. All she has to do is kill her father. A man she has never even meet and a demon. She could say no but that doesn’t mean that they will leave her alone, the council or her father. Things are about to get interesting. As if that wasn’t enough there is Ian. This book takes you on one wild ride. Max must decide who she can trust, who she can live without, and who to let help her. Max’s life has never been easy but this maybe as bad as it has ever been for her. She is a rogue half witch, half demon and they only people looking out for her and people she doesn’t want to get hurt. She must sacrifice to make sure they stay safe. I can’t put this book down and I need the next one NOW!!!. I love Max so much. She is such a strong resilient woman. I wish she could be my friend in real life. In fact I wish a lot of Annie characters could be my friends in real life. Annie is a fantastic author and I highly recommend not only this book but all her books. Now good read them right now. Congrats on another fantastic book Annie.

So, no surprise here, this book was amazing! (In my humble opinion) and I’ll tell you why. Max. Max makes this Tory come to life, it breaths air into your soul and makes you feel alive again.

Okay, so, maybe that’s just me, but whatever. I fecking love, love, loves it! No surprise there though. This story, these characters, and the troubles they manage to get themselves into are creative, a little disturbing at times and a fun as heck journey to be a part of.

Max has been pulled in by the council and given a simple task, in order to get herself out of hot water. She has a mission if she chooses to accept it, though she’s not really given a choice to say no. Events unfold and things start to happen that puts Max and her friends in a boiling cauldron of ‘wtf’ moments. Some that end in bloodshed.

It’s literally a race against an invisible clock. Either Max will accomplish her mission, or she will fall short an she left to the mercy of anyone left standing.

PS: as a side note, there are a few characters in his book that I’m adding to my list of “people I need in my life” in the event someone ever creates a machine to make fake characters come to life. #TeamBarrett #TeamMarcus

Daughter of Souls and Silence
(Book 2 of the Rogue Ethereal Series)
by Annie Anderson

☆☆☆5 stars☆☆☆

Max is the Goddess of EVERYTHING! Just when I think she can't dig herself in a deeper hole, she creates a crater...but with her blue hair, flashy outfits, and fab stilettos, she rocks whatever comes her way in ultimate fashion that's all her own.

Facing the worst of the worst, she relies on some peeps I'd never imagine would have her back. My girl has been through the trenches, yet seems to find a way to keep moving forward.

Talk about a cray cray family reunion for the ages! Max has always been on her own, but being reunited with her true family, I think I'd rather be on my own. Seriously...what a hot mess of chaos!

Let's not forget the brothers, Aiden and Ian. One ticks me off to the point I want to throat punch him. The other surprises me completely, and I want to hug the crap out of him. I'll let you decide who gets what...then there's Stryker. My lusty crush, who brings a few surprises of his own.

LOVE is not a big enough word for how much I'm obsessed with this series and characters. Keep it coming, because I never want it to end!

What an incredible adventure! Once again, Anderson delivers a fast-paced, non-stop thrill ride! From the very beginning we are thrust back into the chaos that is Max’s current situation. The mystery and the action is riveting. I found myself tearing through the pages.
Anderson writes the most amazing female characters. Max’s strength and courage is mesmerizing. The pain of abandonment and isolation is apparent but the woman that Max has grown into is inspiring.
Not only is the storyline gripping and the characters spectacular, but the writing is utterly captivating. Anderson brings you into her world with beautiful words and vivid imagery.
I love this journey. My pulse was racing and my heart was in my stomach. I’m not sure which direction Anderson is going in but I am loving the ride. While we are left with some answers, we are still searching for many more. I’m eager to see what is in store for Max and the rest of the gang.

Man, oh man! Talk about mixed company. This is one action packed, fast paced, hard hitting, nailbiting, heart pounding, pulse racing, adrenaline pumping, page turning bombshell that's as riveting as it is captivating. No holds barred, no pulling punches, just one kick-ass female who doesn't take anything from anyone. With so many twists, unexpected circumstances and unpredictable surprises around every corner make for one phenomenal experience. You get it all, a whirlwind of emotions and events that really brings this treasure to life flawlessly. The characters and scenes are written with such realism it really pulls this bad boy together beautifully. Remarkable job Annie, thanks for sharing this little jewel with us.

There is nothing better than picking up a book and being willing kept in the dark while still being blindsided by plot twists! Everyone loves that one great read that just holds you captive page by page and of course this book proudly wears that title. But it’s not just this book! This is book 2 of a series and I give huge kudos to this author for her brilliant writing style and flair. From the mysterious possible mates to the love me-hate me elusive parents to the fear inducing demons clawing to get to grandma, what else could these poor characters go through? And yet, there is more to come, and there I will be, stalking yet another release! All my reviews are always voluntarily written.

Daughter of Souls and Silence was amazing! I’ve been waiting for another Maxima story. She’s such an amazing character. She’s strong, loyal and a kind hearted individual with a great attitude. Maxima also kicks butt and I love that about her. In this book she finds herself in quite the predicament. She most choose between her own life or the life of her father. Maybe there’s an option C?
I seriously devoured the pages of this book. I couldn’t wait to find out what was going to happen. If you love well written paranormal stories with a strong female heroine I would definitely recommend this book.

Max is a fabulous character, the kind of sassy, smart and kickass persona I love to read about! A one of a kind hybrid with immense powers. Rogue since being banished from her family. Now the Council of all supernaturals need her help but she's not having any of it no matter what they do to her. I really like her style! And someone is positively manic over the relic knife she has, the one empowered by the souls that it reaps, and will do anything to get their hands on it. A really mesmerizing story that sadly ends in a little cliffhanger.
