Award Winning Silent OperationOur special combination of bitumen and foam is extremely efficient at reducing airborne noises from mechanical drives and fan vibrations. Our cases are rated top performers for their excellent, stealthy ventilation and industry leading low noise levels. |
Well-matched Deep Silence Fans and Fan ControllersMany cases often ship with cheaply built fans that produce different levels of noise, which contributes to noise pollution. Our cases doesn't suffer from this problem; all our fans are lab-tuned and well-matched with the case's fan controllers to generate an almost inaudible 12~13 dBA@1m at lowest settings. |
Highly Adaptable and ModularTo appease your inner grease monkey, these cases are configuration friendly and give you many options to install and mount additional hardware. Whether you are a digital storage collector who needs large amounts of drives, or a videographer/photographer who needs massive graphics power, our chassis features a variety of modular HDD cages and brackets to maximize internal space for hardware installation. |
Minimalistic and Understated LooksGreat-looking cases aren't just fancy and colorful. They're ear-candy adventures in themselves! Up close the Nanoxia cases fascinate in details like swiveling fan brackets and soundproofed drive bay doors that would keep even the most noisy PC system whisper quiet. From afar they inspire with understated looks and minimalistic aesthetics. These are computer cases that promise the ultimate in ventilation and low noise levels. |

Goals for new system:
1. Supports my use case of gaming, software development, video capture and editing, blender.
2. Quiet
3. Better video
4. Smaller, the current one takes up too much leg room.
5. No LED’s. I don’t need the light show distraction nor the night light.
6. No water, for space, noise and cost reduction.
7. Some room to grow.
8. Value conscious, not cheap, but certainly not over the top.
The build:
First, the case chosen was a Nanoxia Deep Silence 4 Mini Tower because it was small, has no windows and most importantly has good noise reduction design. It is reasonably priced as well.
Next choice was the i9-7900x CPU and it was a hard one to make. The main contenders were the Ryzen 7, Threadripper and the Intel i9 series. The most impressive for my software development tasks is hands down the threadripper, plus for it has a great power/price ratio. Sadly, it falls way short for games as most games are single threaded. I hope that game engines start getting smarter about using more cores. The Intel I9’s are pretty expensive and have a poor power/price ratio. I waited until all the specs were in before I made a decision. The 7980xe certainly tops the charts with at best a 30% gain (only in massive threading workloads) over the 7900x, at twice the price and double the power usage. It just does not make sense. On top of that, I would have to create another water loop to cool it, which is off the table.
Next was the motherboard, for which there is only one option that fits the CPU and the case. The EVGA x299 micro ATX board.
Next was the heat sink, the part that could make or break the "small" build. The CPU is going to require a significant cooler, more than 120mm closed loop can do. To my surprise, the Noctua NH-D15 out preforms many 240mm closed loop systems. Sadly, it was about 5mm too large to fit in the case. The good news is the Noctua NH-D15S comes in at exactly 5mm shorter and only loses 20W of thermal capacity in the compromise (~220W). It is also well designed to make room for the RAM. Fits like a glove. Also, Noctua is well known for its quiet fans. Hat tip to Nanoxia (case designers) support for preventing from having to try and fail.
Next I chose a 64GB Corsair Dominator kit for the RAM. Mostly because I had lots of trouble between the ASUS motherboard and a G.Skill kit in my previous x99 build.
Finally, in a stroke of luck, ordering the GPU last.. EVGA just released, on the same day, a new 1080 ti elite that supposedly can rival its own Kingpin. We shall see.
I compared this build with others from the popular online PC builders and I am definitely coming in at very significant savings even when compared against lesser hardware options.
The test:
It's been a long night! But, as luck would have it the job is done and it meets all the goals I stated for it including being very quiet. In order to hear it at all everything else has to be turned off including the central air. Even under full load it is just a whisper.
Here are a couple boring photos. My goal was to have a plain looking system with the LED's off. I even went into the video card setting and turned off the lighting.
(see attached photos)
I bench-marked for while and it was smoking fast and I have not even overclocked it. I did finally start overclocking and what I found was a pretty unnoticeable change in the single threaded benchmarks as the turbo mode automatically over-clocks two cores on demand. I doubt there will be many cases that overclocking would actually make a difference for normal use and instead just drives up the power and the heat. At least for now, I am not going to over-clock it.
It is much lighter than the previous one, guessing 25-30 lbs.
It's a nice quiet beast.

I guess you get what you pay for, and your going to pay more than typical for this one.
I used this case for an I7 Micro ATX build where I am using the on chip graphics. I have no requirements for any pci cards, and the mother board chipset + CPU cover all of my requirements except for storage. I used one SSD, and a DVD ROM. I removed the optional storage mounting cages to enhance the air flow. This build is running a 4k monitor and I really need to keep the CPU as cool as I can.
Take note that if you plan to use the Hyper 212 CPU cooler (like I did) that "close fit" doesn't even describe how tight it is in this slightly narrower than typical mini tower case. It does fit however, and does so without making contact with the side of the case and thus putting pressure on the CPU/Motherboard. My CPU is the i7 4790k and its temps stay well within excepted norms with this combination. I don't have to scale the CPU frequency down even under pretty intense work.
Reviewers talking about the inconvenience of accessing the front fan filter are right. You have to remove the front of the case and the wires to the fan speed controllers and especially the reset button will need some attention while doing this.
My computer is suspended under my desk in a suspended cpu mount. This makes the top side usb ports somewhat difficult to access when I slide the whole thing under the desktop. Thats really nitpicking (imo) but heads up for others doing the same. I slide it out until the front *just* extends enough to expose the ports for my use.
The power light is also your hdd activity light. Its green whenever the computer is turned on, and portions of it flash amber when hdd activity is underway. Thats a nice touch I really appreciate cosmetically.
Assembly went pretty quickly, and with the use of some zip ties I was able to route almost everything behind the motherboard's plane on the right side of the case. I wasn't going for show quality, but it looks clean and tight. The space on the right side of the case (under the motherboard) is narrow, and you need to really take advantage of the channels there for thicker power cables from the power supply. It took a couple retries to get sufficient thinness in my cable bundles to allow for a tight fit on the right side without having abnormal pressure pushing out on the right case cover.
With cables out of the main chamber, no pci cards, and the front storage cases removed, the entire interior cavity is open to enhance air flow. Nice.
The side covers don't feel like a loose sloppy fit, nor a precision fit when putting them on. Fit feels tight and slightly misaligned. Not a big deal as a little pressure from both front and back will get them into place easily.
The fans are very, very quiet. When turned up all the way you really have to listen to hear them. On a quiet night I might notice them. During the day I never will.
I do wish the fans were the right pin configuration for motherboard sysfan ports. If I replace them at some point thats what the stock ones will be replaced with.
My expectations for cases are very low. This is a low price category even at this elevated price point. You don't get rocket science engineering in this price point. So I do my research, read the reviews, cross check specs for the other components, then just assume I will pretty much hate something about the way the case is constructed. The surprise this time is that there is nothing I hate. Everything about it, including its very minor shortcomings, can be dealt with easily.
Its a good case. I recommend it to those trying to do a minimal build now while leaving expansion room for later if needed. In minimal configuration its a nice open air flow chamber.
Upside is that is a very attractive case that exudes a surprising understated elegance. Nothing worse than a megatron/ninja turtle/transformers gamer case in a serious office.
