Publisher's summary

Party planner Colin Brightman doesn’t drink or dance, preferring to go to bed early with his spreadsheets and lists. All he wants is to forget the singles weekend his friends sent him on, but he’s stuck with a suitcase filled with condoms and skimpy Speedos that don’t belong to him.

He doesn’t expect his luggage thief to be ex-baseball superstar Walker “Walk-Off” Scanlon. Or that Walker has hired his firm to put on a charity event at his bar. Colin can’t deny the mixed emotions the annoyingly flirty man stirs in him, but he refuses to fall for someone who racks up lovers as easily as he once hit home runs.
No matter how much he might want to.

Walker Scanlon likes his men easygoing with no complications. He’s had enough of those in his life. So why is he drawn to tense and straitlaced Colin and his frosty scowl? When even his corny one-liners and jokes don’t get him a smile? Because the sparks between them are undeniable. And that unexpected kiss? Amazin’.

Now if only Colin would stop running away.

When Colin and Walker come face to face with past hurts and betrayals, they’ll need to trust themselves and each other to learn that heartbreak and love don’t go hand in hand. It’s the bottom of the ninth, and if they swing for the stars, they just might hit the grand slam of a lifetime.

Unexpected is a low-angst, high-heat romance between a corny joke-telling ex-baseball player who doesn't believe in striking out on or off the field and a divorced, tea-drinking homebody who isn't willing to get played...again.

Loved! Such a treat!

Matt Haynes does an amazing job of bringing Unexpected to life!
Unexpected is the perfect title for this book. Both Colin and Walker have been hurt and betrayed in the past. Each has invisible wounds that they carry with them every day.

To see that they are both closed off the the possibilities of love and forever is putting it mildly.
Neither expected the spark of attraction that happened the first time they met eyes. When they have the ultimate "cute meet" they still don't allow themselves to be open and vulnerable.
I loved Walker's zest for life. He is the perfect partner for quieter, more reserved Colin. They balance each other perfectly. The heat they generate together is HOT!

The emotional connection they forge and the trust that they build gives them the foundation to build a future together that they each didn't know they wanted or needed.
I loved how both guys opened up to each other.
This was a lovely, heartwarming story that I devoured.

5*****

Each book of Felice's gets better and better which is why she is one of my favorite authors. I absolutely loved this slow burn, low angst, character and relationship building story, because, when these 2 finally get together, they have a meaningful and unbreakable connection. Held my attention from beginning to end and finished in 2 days because I could not stop listening. Narrator does an excellent job of distinguishing between the characters and conveying emotion. Highly recommend!

Actually very nice

I was a bit hesitant about this book at first because the narrator was very dull. The story and the narrator did pick up and it turned into a nice book

I Loved it

I enjoyed this story a lot. It has opposites attract, grumpy introvert Colin meets sunshine social butterfly, life of the party Walker, hurt to comfort and much more. I loved that it took these characters time and effort to make a connection, and I enjoyed the heated scenes when they finally did. Narrator did a good job with the story, it took me a little bit to get used to his voice for Walker, but after I did, I thought it was a perfect fit for the character and personality. Overall this was a great listening experience.

Take Another Look

I love the look at these two men. Colin is set in his way with his baggage from a hard past. He has such a bad attitude at the beginning of the story that he has a really bad reaction to Walker. Walker has his own difficulties and kind of gives the vibe that Colin isn't all wrong in his negative assessment. BUT and this is where the story starts to take the wonderful turn both me start to see the other as more than their assumptions. There are moments when they begin to dive deeper and that is where the relationship truly begins. Both men have the other's best interest at heart and that is what develops and drives the conclusion of the story. There are parts of the story early on that both me frustrated me with their attitude but getting to the end was so satisfying. I listened to the audio version and it was well done. And frankly I think that was what help me get past the part of the story were you just want to thump both men in the head.

Love Unexpected

Colin Brightman is an Event Planner who, after his divorce devoted his time to mainly working. He wasn't going to put himself in a position to get hurt ever again.
His business partners and friends sent him on a vacation to relax and whatever else happens, happens. Instead of enjoying himself he remained solemn and alone watching as the other guest enjoyed the resort's activities.

Walker Scanlon, retired from Major League Baseball due to a career ending knee injury. Runs a bar near Barclays, where celebrities and people of all walks of life comes to enjoy a night or two away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Walker was let down by people he trusted and loved. He vowed never to put his trust and heart in anyone else. He spends his time not only at the bar but partaking in various one night stands, and the occasional trip, where he would hookup.

These two MCs are intriguing, headstrong and frustrating, at time i wanted to scream at them, but I so love their tat-a-tats.

These characters shows that life and people are unexpected. Living your life after being hurt and vowing never to let anyone in, can change in the split of a second.
Everyone deserves a second chance, Colin and Walker gets theirs.

To find out more about Colin and Walker, I recommend reading their story.

Colin & Walker

I loved Colin and Walker’s story! Felice Stevens writes such wonderful characters, and their story really drew me in! so much so, I wanted to relive these two in audio. Matt Haynes is a new to me narrator and I really enjoyed his narration! The flow was great, and I really liked the voices that he used. He really drew me into a story that I already loved, and made it fresh and new for me. He did a great job with the banter between Colin and Walker. These two each came with their own hurts, coming from different places and handled in their own ways. Their story was packed with feels, more angst than I expected but in a wonderful way, and a fantastic slow burn that made it worth the wait. I loved seeing them take their healing steps and finding each other along the way. As usual I was sad to leave behind some characters I began to truly love!

I was in love by the end

Initially, I thought I wasn't going to enjoy the MCs but, as the story developed, I became more and more invested. Both have had painful and disappointing experiences with love and life, and neither is really interested in trying again. They're also opposites in many ways but slowly come to appreciate and trust one another. I fell in love with them as they fell in love with each other. I liked it a lot.

looks are deceiving

I can never get over Walker's parents' greed , but
I was happy for him. First impressions can be deceiving as this story reflects when each guy (Colin and Walker) took the time to peel back the layers and get to really know and understand each other, they formed a tenuous bond because their basic chemistry sizzeled. The trust building on both sides was inspirational! I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a great job bringing the characters and story to life. It was next level with the narration!!!
