Now, I’m practically glued under enough null wards to hide a god and stuck with a stupidly sexy shifter of a jailer who hates my guts.

When my former employer comes sniffing around, not only does he keep me alive, but we find out that our pasts are far more connected than either of us realize.

And the lies we’ve been told could kill us both.

This hovered at two and a half stars through 80% of the book. But, the last 20% was awesome!

So… what was the problem with the rest? It was nothing more than a rehash of the the last book in The Wrong Witch trilogy, “Errors and Exorcism”. Seriously it was exactly the same except from a (very) slightly different viewpoint. Imagine reading a historical account of… let’s say the Battle of Hastings. You read each detail of the entire battle from the General on the right flank’s point of view. Then, you read the exact same account of the same battle from the General on the left flank’s point of view. The two are pretty much identical in all ways except a few small tidbits that one saw that the other didn’t. That is exactly what this book is. We see every event portrayed in “Errors…” but with a couple of added things thrown in. It was BORING because I already know what is happening and is going to happen!

Now, if you have never read the Wrong Witch Trilogy, you may love this story (although I’m not sure if you would get all the backstory involved), if you have, though… *shrugs*. I’ll let you decide, because the 20% that takes place AFTER the fact was amazing!

CURSES AND CHAOS is the first book in The Lost Witch series, which is a spin-off from The Wrong Witch. I would suggest you do read that series as this one runs concurrently with the last book in that series but from the perspective of Fiona and Theo. Personally, I loved that as I got to see the events through different eyes.

Anyway, back to this one. Fiona is the best friend of Wren and will do anything to get her back from the Fae Realm, including killing twelve witches. Theo is the older brother of Nico, Wren's husband, and Second to the Alpha of the Acosta Pack. Theo has his issues with witches and doesn't hide them. Fiona knows he hates her and accepts it; she's got bigger things on her mind.

I am so glad Fiona got her story told, even if this is just the beginning! I loved how Theo and Fiona's relationship changed without them both fully realising it. And one thing I absolutely adored? There is no "I love you's" in this book! Oh, don't get me wrong, the possessiveness of the wolf is all there, but their relationship will need longer than one book to reach that stage! I'm all over that. I can't wait to see what comes next and how they react to it.

Fiona is sweetness and spice with a whole lot of sass. Theo is Mr Grumpy Pants (with reason) with a darkness that suits Fiona. I love this pair and have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this brilliant start to their story.

** same worded review will appear elsewhere **

* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book; the comments here are my honest opinion. *

The story starts out with a revenge plot, and proceeds to go through twists and turns. during the twists and turns love is abound. Fiona is a awesome character. Theo is the typical lay a hand on her and I will take you out guy. I loved the story. I can’t wait for the rest of the story.

3 STARS ✨

I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of Curses and Chaos from Booksprout in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This was an interesting read for me; I did find it quick to get through and enjoyed it, but I do feel as if I could have benefited from reading The Wrong Witch series first. You can follow through Curses and Chaos without any complications as plot points from The Wrong Witch are explained, but it does feel as if a majority of the book is a continuation of Wren's story and the further secrets surrounding her bloodline, rather than focusing on Fiona and Theo. It is not until later in the novel that the foundations truly feel set for what is to come for the two of them.

Unfortunately, we also miss a lot of their development on page; in the four months that Fiona is detoxing from her 'attempt' to get back Wren, we are told that this is the time that she and Theo truly transition from 'hating' each other to being tolerable, and that would have been fantastic to read about to truly get within the depths of their relationship. I do think, however now that Wren has returned and that storyline seems to have concluded, the plot will focus on them from book two onwards and, hopefully, we'll be able to see some of that development.

I am tempted to go back and read The Wrong Witch series and then delve back into book two of this one, just to have a further bit of context, but I'm not too sure yet.

I would recommend this one, but I'd say go for The Wrong Witch series first!

And off we go again….. back to Savannah and dropped into the storyline of Errors and Exorcisms (The Wong Witch book 3) but from Fiona and Theo’s pov. You could read this as a standalone series but you may be a tad confused.

Fiona Jacobs is the daughter of one of the most evil mage crime bosses in the South. But she has turned her back on that life and joined the ABI. Strangely though, with the exception of Wren and (most of) the Acosta pack, people still don’t trust her.

Theo Acosta is the elder brother of my beloved Nico, with a past he doesn’t want to forget, history with the Jacobs coven and a slightly grey set of morals. He hates Fiona with a passion but when she has a little problem with portals Theo is made to play babysitter and whoa do sparks fly!

The chemistry between these two is explosive in all ways, and the double pov means you get to see the softer side and wolfy possessiveness of Theo.

This is another rollercoaster of a book and I loved every second of it. Read the trigger warnings at the beginning if you don’t like certain themes (sex, lots of swearing, death, murder, black magic and morally ambiguous hot men…) but, if that all sounds good to you then this is definitely the book for you!

Talk about a page turner!

Now, I may be a little biased here (but not really) when I say Theo and Fiona are both such diverse, intense and all together chaotic seperatly that when you put them together to take on a bad guy... shew lawd. There is no way they can't come out on top. Though, they may not be fully in one peice when they do. LOL!

The complexity of Fiona alone make the story more than entertaining. I cringed, cursed and a few times, I just had to walk away because this poor girl is a hot mess of a hot mess. Her b*tchy side is (chef kiss). I love this sassy little slip of a witch.

And Theo... sweet holy shifter madness. The man is too much and not enough all in one go. Dark, mysterious, gruuuuuumpy! He's just as complex as Fi yet, he's so jaded that you need to peel him back layer by layer to get him to realize what is right in front of him. Or beside him as it is.

Pair the two, add in their determination and hardheadedness... and you get a story that you will not be able to put down. It will go too fast and you will contemplate reading to it again and again.

I can not wait to see what comes next for these crazy kids.

Fiona will do anything to find her best friend and that includes making some dubious decisions and living with the consequences. Fiona’s watcher/jailer/babysitter is Theo. He loves to hate Fiona and is forced to take care of her as she is Wren’s best friend.
This is a great book and must have been difficult to write as scenes from Wren and Nico’s third book had to be rewritten from Fiona and Theo’s point of view.
The great thing about another point of view is that so much more happened in those scene’s that you thought and I bet (and hope) that they might be revisited from another point of view in another series,
The writing is slick, the main characters are feisty and you can almost imagine you are watching the scenes unfold in front of you.
You also root for Fiona and Theo to survive and to stop being so dang stubborn!
All in all this is a great book and gets you hooked into this series. The only downside is now I will need to wait for the second instalment.
This is a 5* book!

I love the way this author starts her books with her personal notes in the front, very witty.
This is one strong witch and it takes Theo long enough to realise that he can't live without her.
But she has her own fights to battle against and he's going to make sure he's by her side the whole time.
To think she started this off trying to save a friend but caused a cataclysmic event that puts so many other plans in motion including almost killing herself along the way.

I’m so glad that the author did a spin off series from The Wrong Witch series. Fiona and Theo, a spicy enemies to lovers story with lots of action. There is so much going on not only in the forefront, but also in the background; planting seeds that brings future plots into fruition.
As with all her books, you plan to read slowly and savor, only to find yourself finishing the book in the wee hours of the morning because you couldn’t put it down.

This is book one of the Arcane Souls World: The Lost Witch series and the main characters are Fiona Jacobs, a witch from an infamous witch family and who works for the ABI in Savannah, and Theo Acosta, a wolf shifter and the oldest son of the Acosta pack. He hates her with a vengeance due to the actions of her family, killing the only one he would love. But she is under the protection of his younger brother Nico, the alpha of the pack, after he defeated their father, who is mated to her best friend Wren. Wren Bannister has been lost in Faerie after Fae Prince Tristan closed all of the gates to Faerie or anywhere else. It has been almost three years since she went missing and alpha Nico is slowly going insane and losing control of his sanity and his wolf without her. Fiona has been doing all she can to get a gate opened and to rescue her best friend, but even locating the Fae Prince and having him held in the Acosta pack’s dungeon, he has refused to give any helpful information to them. Fiona decides to take her own action and has gone dark, using black magic spells to gain more power for the spell she hopes will work.

She has done a lot of bad things to help her friend, making her more like her father than she would ever want, even with him forcing her to be their coven’s enforcer from a young age. The dark magic she has been using and the amount of power she has gather, has left her drained and unable to sleep or eat. The spell brings about a somewhat different outcome than she had hoped, opening a portal to Hell not Faerie, leaving the city overrun with demons. Nico has Theo lock Fiona into a null warded cell in their dungeon that she herself warded for the Fae Prince, and it was slowly killing her! Theo has been forced to babysit her, to ensure she can’t escape, but also to ensure she is safe, as the rest of the ABI are searching for the noticeable magical signature made by the spell and opening of the gate. Fiona didn’t expect to survive the spell and is happy to waste away slowly, as Theo watches her. Over the four months she is help captive, they go from hatred and definite enemies, to friends and even a modicum of respect. Wren and Fiona bonded at college as they trained for the ABI with their nightmare childhoods and family, both going against what their families expected from them.

There are lots more surprises to come about Wren’s past and her family line, with some deals with the devil and desire for more magical power. When Fiona is suddenly released, Theo has to struggle with his feelings and what he really wants, as he could lose her at any moment if he lets her leave. Misunderstandings are dangerous things, but for Fiona and Wren, their families are the biggest danger! Having a main character who does some pretty awful things, to save a friend, has you rooting for her from the start. Theo sounds like a grumpy, argumentative shifter, but he finally realises he needs Fiona and his wolf pushes his protective side into action full time. Shocking to see how dysfunctional and evil all three families have been and how it impacted on their children! I will definitely be looking out for other books in this series and didn’t feel like I had missed anything reading this as a standalone book. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Four and a half stars for the beginning bit and the last 25% or so (see below for why.) I love Fiona and Theo and can’t wait for the next book. Her story is so interesting and I’m going to be on pins and needles until I can read Hexes and Hijinks.

Now for the criticism, and it’s a bit of a doozy:

First things first: I still feel like it was definitely worth reading! But… 2.5 or so stars for the middle bit for both content and structure. The review someone left that says that the middle part is actually a different view from another series makes so much sense. To be brutally honest, coming into this book without reading the others didn’t give me enough info to really care about the rest of the pack, Nico was just kind of annoying without more info, the whole Wren thing was like “huh?”, and I sort of skimmed to get back to more Fiona and Theo.

I do wish the story hadn’t started as abruptly. I like feeling as if you get thrown into the action, but there was very little explanation as to exactly why Fiona was doing what she was doing, who Wren is, and why Fiona cares; which was a missed opportunity to flesh out her character and Theo’s. Her father also feels like the boogey man without enough explanation as to why.

I feel like all the content from the other book took up valuable space to introduce them and almostttt makes the romance feel a little forced. I get the concept of writing interconnected books, but the author NEEDS TO PROVIDE CONTEXT. It is possible to sum up events without bogging down the story. K.M. Shea does a good job with her interconnected series, for example. If you really want to show two perspectives to a battle, make it a novella or just write the original book from both perspectives. I would have strongly suggested the novella format for showing Fiona’s perspective.

To sum it up: All I know now is that I’m not really interested in Wren’s story. And I love the 🌶️- well written and it feels like it fits in the story. Once we got back to Fiona’s story I LOVED the plot and I hope she gets the spotlight she deserves now. This book walked a fine line, but in the end I loved it and feel like I’ll be marking my calendar for the next. A re-read? Maybe. But only the beginning and the end, TBH.

I’m a huge fan of anything Annie Anderson writes. It’s like, she just “gets me” lol This book is NO exception.

I absolutely LOVE how Annie has created this world and every new series for awhile now has been set in that world! I really can’t put into words how much I enjoy the crossover of characters and stories between books. Reading the same scene from 2 different character’s perspectives is SO much fun!

I love that that Fiona is genuinely good but with shades of gray. I love that she and Theo are loyal AF. They’re matched so well in that way! She could kill you with kindness before you knew what hit you, and he would have the whole thing under wraps before anyone knew you were missing. ;) Can’t wait to hear the narrators southern accent!

Having the characters from the previous series really kept it feeling familiar. I read this in one night. I couldn’t put it down. Of course, it’s like that with all of this author’s books. I finished 2 days ago and I can’t stop trying to piece together what will happen in the next book. It’s distracting as all get out! haha

If you love snark with a heaping side of southern sass you will devour this book.

I know that when I start reading a book by Annie Anderson, I need to have a couple of uninterrupted hours to finish the book! Once I start reading her books, I just can't stop until I reach the end!

Fiona Jacobs is determined to open a portal that will allow her friend, Wren Acosta, to return home. However, she instead opens a gate to Hell and things quickly go downhill! Fiona is thrown into a dungeon at the Acosta compound in order to hide her from the ABI. And, her enemy, Theo Acosta, is given the task of keeping her there. In Fiona's own words, "Theo was the King Poo-bah of the Proctology Brigade".

This book is full of magic, action, plenty of cursing and snark and some truly steamy scenes that will have you looking for a way to cool down! There are villains to hate, revenge, and redemption throughout the book and the obligatory open ended story that promises future enjoyment with this cast of characters.

I highly recommend this book (or any others by Ms. Anderson) to those who love a fast-paced, well-written paranormal romance.

While I liked Nico and Wren story, this one with her best friend didn’t really cut for me. For starters , it picked when Wren was stuck in the Fae Realm. If you read her series you will know what happened, how she got back and how she fought the Fae King. While we get a slip of what happened during the time she was away, the focus is the last few months when Fiona opened a gate to hell. Then we had the exact scenes from Wren’s book regarding her meeting with Zephyr, her confrontation with her family and the fight against Desmond and the closure of the hell gate.
Her relationship with Theo lacks a bond and respect. He hates her, or at least he thinks so, treats her like garbage because of her father. And then he is surprised when she assumed he only slept with her as revenge for what her father did. And right after that, they are back together without a single conversation about this or about what they mean to each other. One moment he is yelling at her and the next he is “I will protect you with my life because I love you”. The whiplash is strong with this one.

We first met Fiona in the author’s Wrong Witch series, where she and her newfound bestie, Wren (also a witch) trained to become field agents with the ABI – the Arcane Bureau of Investigations. Nico, who’s married to Wren, is the Acosta pack Alpha, and the younger brother of Theo. Both are wolf shifters. When Theo and Fiona first met, sparks flew – but not sparks of attraction. Far from it!

Roughly 50% of this story revisits the storyline of Errors and Exorcisms (final book in the Wrong Witch series) with those events now told through Fiona and Theo’s POV. We gain a better understanding of their roles in what transpired after Fiona opened that Hell gate and how they went from enemies to lovers.

This fast-paced paranormal romance features plenty of drama, action & adventure, magic, mystery, suspense and violence, along with some humour and seriously steamy encounters. I’m looking forward to Hexes & Hijinx for the conclusion of this tale.

Another toe curling, addictive read and a series I already crave. Annie Anderson has a talent for creating characters that you just can’t put down, wanting everything they have to give and living through every single emotion with them.

Fiona and Theo are a hater to lover couple, their relationship unravels in this book leading to an ending that has you chomping for more. This book covers Fiona’s and Theo’s time while Wren is in Faerie and Wrens subsequent family drama and also Fiona’s.

This book reads smooth and if you have read Wrens story (highly recommend you do) this gives another dimension to it. Think about when you and your friends go to an event, you all have a different story to tell which creates a full (in my case usually hilarious) picture. That’s what Fiona and Theo’s story does, they build on the world you already know.

Brilliant and blazing, another must keep and must read.

Fiona and Theo's interactions during the events of Errors and Exorcism have come to light and make so much sense now. The banter between the two feels like an epic game of pong and your neck starts to hurt from the whiplash between the two. Fiona and Theo are a great joy to read about. Learning about Theo's reason to hate all witches makes perfect sense, and Fiona's coven specifically. The struggle Theo feels when trying to be his brother's enforcer and needing to keep Fiona safe proves that the man still can care about others. Fiona dropping her cute girl act is refreshing and getting to see more of her true self is a piece of art.
The little adventure at the end to Fiona's family is nail biting inducing. Also her ex boyfriend got what he deserves and Theo is my hero.
Loved every minute of this book.
Cannot wait for more.

Dark magic

When her best friend Wren disappeared in the Fae realm and all portals have been closed, Fiona decided to take the situation into her own hands, trying to get Wren back and stop her mate Nico, the alpha pf Acosta pack, from losing his mind. But the dark magic gets out of her hand, opening a gate to Hell instead.. which puts her in null cell undrr supervision of her Nemesis, Theo Acosta, Savannah under ABI lockdown and demons roaming free..that's just a beginning of typical Fiona day, full of screw-ups.
And in a typical Annie Anderson fashion, the story is packed with adventure, action, danger, dark magic, questionable choices and methods, lots of drama, deep emotions, and total chaos. I love that ragtag group of characters, each an oddity yet force to respect, with strong personalities and loyalty to each other. The scenes are very vivid, and I lived through the story very fast.. so I am right onto the path to book 2.

And I thought my family was cursed! Poor Fiona has the luck! First, in trying to help Wren, she opens a gate to the wrong dimension. Then she gets stuck in a null cell for months as it slowly kills her because she can't eat anything. When she gets lose, the person who was her guard, she is half in love with but doesn't know how he feels about her. Then she gets a summons from her father to show up for her mother's birthday party. What happens next is the stuff nightmares are made of! This poor girl can't catch a break with a mitt! Hopefully in the next book, she can get back some of her own! What a mess but what a read! And poor Theo! His life seems to have been one catastrophe after another and most of it at Fiona's father's hands. Will he get a shot a revenge and redemption? Read and see!

Curses and Chaos (Arcane Souls World: The Lost Witch)
by Annie Anderson

***5 stars***

Fiona is on another level of badassery, and I'm loving it! She's taken it upon herself to find a way to bring her best friend back from the other side. Does it go as planned? Of course not! That would be too easy.

Theo has been beckoned to be Fiona's "babysitter" by Nico. Does he like it? No. Does he do it, anyway? Yes. We get to see another side to him that he doesn't show others too often. His soft side. Don't get me wrong...he's still a grumbly old Betty, but a loveable one.

Much to my happiness, their story is filled with plenty of shenanigans and love, and at times, it's a dumpster fire of epic proportions. A mix of chaos that we all crave from an Annie Anderson book.

Run, don't walk, and get yourself head on into the fun! You won't regret it!

Here is the review for Curses and Chaos
Arcane Souls World : The Lost Witch book 1

Cat gives this 4 meows with 3 Purr heat index
Is this part of a series?yes it’s book one in The Lost Witch Series but it’s part of the Arcane World which looks like a larger series with other sorts within. I’m not sure what the reading order is but I felt kinda lost so needed to have read something that led up to this book.
After reading this I think the series before is the wrong witch series.
Are there any Trigger Warnings? There is violence,

Did the blurb entice me into reading the book? The blurb was really interesting and had me intrigued.
What made me choose this book?
The witches, werewolves and Demons. I like good magic books.

X Who’s my favorite character?
What did I like best? The twist and turns it really gets good about 65 70 percent.

Was there something I didn’t like? Just that I didn’t know to read previous books.

What would have made that better? Reading at least a book before this so I knew why some of these thing were happening.

What made the book interesting? All the magic,
Was there an HEA? Yes
How hot was the book? It was a slow burn but once the sex began it was hot only a couple scenes but good ones.

Who do I recommend this to?
If you like witches, black magic, demons, werewolves, twists, this is for you.

Now I love me some Annie Anderson! I love her writing style and her characters are always a blast. This series though... It does not stand on its own. It's a continuation of The Wrong Witch series. You HAVE TO read her previous series to understand what's happening, at least in this first book. I know this because I didn't read the final book Errors and Exorcisms. So I was confused about nearly every scene in the Curses and Chaos book.

It was still written well and interesting to see characters from previous Annie Anderson novels. I imagine fans of The Wrong Witch series will be pretty thrilled to see what happens to these familiar characters. As for me, unless I go back and re-read The Wrong Witch series, I will not be finishing The Lost Witch series.

Curses and Chaos is the start of Fiona and Theo's story, however this book is a spin-off of the The Wrong Witch series. This first book is Fiona and Theo's perspective of Errors and Exorcism, the last book in The Wrong Witch series. While we are given a good summery of the series, I feel conflicted on this being the first book of a series that runs concurrent with another series' third book. This wasn't bad, it was nice to get Fiona and Theo's perspective, however it feels like there was a chunk of the story missing. Fiona and Theo had to leave for four months, and rather than seeing what happened to have their relationship change from enemies to lovers, we're just told that it happened. I would have loved to see what happened. But it wasn't a bad start just not a great start.

I think this might be a spin-off series?! I felt like I was missing some pretty important information at the beginning of this book.

Why is it not in the BLURB!!????
I don't read reviews and blurbs rarely; I mainly go in blind. But I did go back and check the blurb, and nowhere does it say spin-off. 🤬
First review, I see this…
Curses and Chaos is the first book in The Lost Witch series, which is a spin-off from The Wrong Witch.

Once I just accepted the fact that I was probably not going to understand chunks of the storyline. I just focused on Fiona and Theo, and overall, I probably would have loved this book a heck of a lot more had I listened to the first series!! Grr, I am kinda salty about it now.

The narration was fantastic, honestly. I love Lance and all that he does, and Willa was new to me, but she did a fantastic job, in my opinion.

This book is the first book in a new series by Annie Anderson. It is connected to several of her other series though. Especially The Wrong Witch Series. With Wren missing in the Fae realm Fiona is determined to get her back. If she was better then Wren might not be missing at all. Well, the spell kind of works. But at the same time, they still don’t have Wren back and now Fiona is wanted by the ABI and needs to be hidden. Theo has the honor of being Fiona’s guard. His brother says its not a punishment but Theo thinks otherwise. Things are weird though. Fiona is making him feel things for her. Theo lost his mate a long time ago. Could Fiona be his mate or could his wolf just be ready to move on to find love again. While Fiona and Theo don’t get along in the beginning by the end things have changed. Fiona’s dad isn’t going to let her go so easily though. Will Theo and the others be able to protect Fiona. What lies ahead for the pair? Annie has done it again. This book is a fantastic read. I love reading more about all these characters. I can’t wait to read about how Fiona and Theo progress. This book was a wild ride. While some of it does over lap with the last book in the Wrong Witch series, it is told from a different perspective. Annie is a must read author for me.

Oh, I love Annie Anderson's books!
We are back in the Arcane Souls World. If you've never read the author's books, this one might be read as a first one, but I suggest you to start from the beginning (Dead to Me).

Fiona is a powerful witch who doesn't want to have anything in common with her coven. Theo is a werewolf with not such a great history with witches. Seems like there can be no future for them... but see for yourself!

The thing about Annie Anderson's books is that I just can't have enough. She finds a perfect balance between action, great and deep characters, strong women and loyal men. And it's a perfect way for me to escape reality.

There are warnings of violence and strong language.

Fiona Jacobs grew up in with a daddy who held sway over whole states and parts of others. She was sheltered from the evil, used for the most part, but when she learned the truth, she left. Fiona was taken in by a wolf pack and I like how she holds loyalty to them. Fiona is definitely not an angel. She will do what has to be done - use the training she was given. Theo Acosta is the brother of the alpha of the pack. He is not on board with Fiona being around. Things go wonky but sometimes the devil is your friend. The steps it takes to bring Fiona and Theo together are long. And her daddy is not out of the picture - war looms on the horizon. I recommend this read.

This is the first book in the Lost Witch series, which is a spin off of the Wrong Witch series. Of course all of these are absolutely fantastic because Annie Anderson wrote them. She has never wrote a book that I didn't love! Fiona Jacobs is the sweet, sassy, badass, loyal friend to Wren. She would do anything for her and I do mean anything. Theo Acosta is the jaded, grumpy and mysterious brother to Wren's husband and the pack leader Nico Acosta. He despises witches, except for Wren and doesn't like that he has to babysit Fiona for his brother. Much to his dismay, sparks fly between them in this snarky, chaotic, rollercoaster of an enemies to lovers tale. You will not be able to put this book down!!
