Hello, The cork tile background is made from the cork tree. The thickness may vary between each piece as this is a natural product, it can range from 1/2 an inch to 3/4 of an inch.

How thick is this background? Is it real cork, or a printed film?

This is a nice looking background and provides a convenient alternative to doing a diy background. It arrived quickly, one corner appeared a bit damaged from shipping bit it is hidden by my drainage layer. This cork background was quick and easy to install, although I do recommend doing some extra research as the product description doesn't mention that the background is more sturdy when secured with aquarium-grade silicone. I used this in a planted terrarium and it looks like the base of a tree when used with other sticks.
