Crash & Carnage

Rate this book
Adderly “Boxer” Ford is nothing like the men of my past.

He’s an outlaw.

A criminal.

My opposite in every way.

I save lives.

He takes them.

I’m makeup and mink.

He’s leather and ink.

I’m a fan of monogamy.

I’m not sure Boxer knows the definition of the word.

It’s a bad idea to get mixed up with him and his motorcycle club.

But when his lips meet mine, and his fingers plow through my hair, my desire for an orderly, safe life goes out the window.

In his bed, I discover passion.

With his club, I find a family.

In his arms, I am safe.

I don’t belong in Boxer’s world.

But when you fall for a Blue Angel, you get a lot more than you bargain for.

I feel like I’ve been waiting ages for Boxers story, whilst I really liked this book, I was a little disappointed that we didn’t get Boxer’s POV at all. I personally felt like there were some situations that I wanted to know how he was feeling, and his thoughts & I think it would of made this a 5 star read for me.

Whilst I appreciate that some readers don’t need trigger warnings, I really felt like this book should of had a note at the beginning from the author, warning readers that some of the subject matter may be sensitive.

Here’s why Linden, our heroine goes through a dramatic & heartbreaking situation, the things she had done to her were hard to read, and I had to put my kindle down a few times & wipe my tears.

Honestly... this was a hot mess of a book. Really should have been about a hundred pages shorter at least. The author's choice to have it entirely from Linden's perspective made the pacing of the book feel off not to mention that she was a hot and cold character - and not even from the trauma that was on the page but just in general. There were tons of storylines and side characters that made Boxer and Linden seem like they were the secondary plot and it all read like a mess. I think I am over this series and won't be picking up more.

4.5 Emotional Carnage Stars

Linden and Boxer's was way too emotional for me. Their banter was cute, there was steam and that twist in the end... not a big fan... but I enjoyed reading it. On a side note, I would have preferred if everyone was still alive, but that's on me...

Emma Slate is a go-to author of mine, that always delivers an addictive and captivating read. This books was action packed, steamy, hilarious, heart wrenching and multi-layered with some of the previous series (SINS) as well as allowing our faves to return from wreck & ruin. Loved Boxer from book 1 and his book definitely did NOT disappoint!

Linden is new to the area after leaving the east coast. She is well liked by all the meddling nurses who want her to get out and date, and low and be hold Boxer comes along as her patient and sparks fly. There is immediate chemistry and the scene with Mia, boxer and linden where she doesn’t realize Mia is colts wife was cute and funny. Adderly ‘Boxer’ Ford is has many layers and is definitely more than meets the eye, although what you see is so very appealing. Considerate, charming, charismatic, as well as down and dirty; boxer checks all the boxes.

She saves his life on the OR table and then he woos her to give him a shot and take a chance on him. And obviously she needed a change because her ‘type’ wasn’t working. She is soon immersed in the Blue Angels world and all that it entails. Danger lurks around the MC and all those it holds dead and Linden learns first hand how horrible consequences of their life can be. But they are a loyal, dedicated family based bunch and they rally behind those they deem their own.

Loved seeing cameos from Quinn, and Ramsey!! Emma Slate knows how to weave stories and series so that everything has its place and you just love to see Easter eggs and fave characters get tied into new story lines. Can’t wait for more in the series and from the author in general!!

I received this book as an ARC for an honest and voluntary review.

I’m not giving this a star rating bc I didn’t actually like this book at all. It was well written and I liked the main characters to some extent, but I think this book proved that MC books just aren’t for me.

Spoiler warning, but I am so tired of books absolutely destroying the woman characters and sacrificing what makes her her in order to drive the plot and for the man. The heroine was a brilliant surgeon and it was her entire life, and now her hand is ruined and people are telling her to have babies and raise children as a backup… I’m so so tired of it. Why couldn’t his arm be broken and he could no longer ride a bike and he could be a house wife for his brilliant surgeon wife??

I do appreciate that she actually got told some of the info and it wasn’t hidden from her “for her own good”. I’m also glad she got her revenge. But, I think this genre just isn’t for me.

First and above everything where are the trigger warnings. I know it is a club and shady business but where is the trigger warnings of female assault and torture. It actually riled me and being empathetic it made me on edge.
Second a book all from the female viewpoint… meh. I wanted the male pov as well.
The ending feel rushed.
Hated the female character from the beginning, couldn’t sympathize with her then she was abducted and it pained me deeply.
Didn’t get the forgiveness part and the illogical decisions of not protecting her in the first place when you already involved her in your business

I DNF’d this book at 80%, took me days to get to that point. It was just lacking something… wasn’t horrible, just wasn’t all that great! Loved the trope though.

Way darker than I expected. Nothing like the first book and I didn’t care for Linden. She’s…..not good character worthy in my eyes. More often she’s too “undeserving” of a story. I can’t put in words….just rubs me wrong. She didn’t deserve her story. Out of place, maybe?

The banter and chemistry between Linden and Boxer was my kind of catnip. I enjoyed the way Linden navigated her way between her world and his.

My only reason for this not being a 5 star read was that I wasn't prepared for the dark chapter. I imagined the catalyst for the twist being something else even though the revelation made sense.

Not as keen for the next book as Brooklyn doesn't seem anywhere as mature a character as Linden was.

Each book is a standalone with a subtle overarching plot. I am reading on because the secondary characters have hooked me in!

I DK some parts of this book were actually pretty weird. I’ve never read a book where the character admits to wishing that she could truly go back and not meet her current love. I also don’t know what happened with her being a surgeon like what’s going a half an hour after this. I also couldn’t find books about the other couples except for Mia and her guy but the rest I couldn’t find the books. Do they not have any?? Seemed like he bookbad lots of loose ends as well. Like reap died.. so what’s happening with Rachel and the baby? Is she getting a book or something. Also that’s all dante got? Is linden going to still be a surgeon or what’s happening. Just lots of questions.

I will say I was reading this book and was half way through and was like what more could happen and then he kidnapping did which added some fun and suspense. But I didn’t like how all the nurses kept bugging linden about dating the lead guy like stop being so nosy every page it’s so redundant and annoying.

Alsooooo what’s happening with her parents and that mean doctor at the hospital. It seems like this author started writing one book and finished by writing a completely different book and the Internet transition to well with the problems. Like why did we ever get a confrontation between the girl and Jerry because Jerry was spying on her for her mom.

I really liked the first book but sadly this fell a little bit flat for me. I loved Boxer in the first book, but he didn't feel the same way in this book. I just didn't fuller click with this book.

I feel a little let down with this book. I was so looking forward to Boxer's story because he is such a golden retriever boyfriend, but I felt like after the first few chapters he loses that part of his personality. I also wish we got dual POV with this book because there were so many times that I wish I knew what was going on in Boxer's mind and just what he was doing. It felt like we didn't get a lot of the biker side of this MC romance because everything was happening with Boxer behind the scenes. Also the fact that there were no trigger warnings for this book was shocking. I mean Linden gets tortured and there is no warnings. I also felt like Boxer and Linden went back and forth so much when they were talking. One moment they seemed happy and good then the next they were fighting about something. I wish we also got a little more closure with the end of the book.

I think the story was amazing and if this was told in dual POV it would have been phenomenal. I loved that Linden is this amazing surgeon and she tells Boxer straight up that her job is important to her so don't try to change that. I think both of them were good with accepting each others flaws. The Old Ladies accepting Linden into their group right away was so sweet and I loved how they were there for her through everything she went through.

One thing that was hard was remembering all the side character (mainly the prospects) and I know they are going to be the main characters in later books, but it is so hard keeping all of them straight.

The second book in the Blue Angels MC series, Crash & Carnage is a really good read.

We meet Doctor Linden Ward at the hospital in Dallas when she saves Boxer's life.

It's easy to see that Linden has secrets and things in her life she's hiding from, thanks to her interactions with the nurses at the hospital, but Boxer - who was a great character in book one of the series - has charm for days and eventually wears Linden down to go out with him.

Boxer is fun and charming, and in book one, was the playboy in the club, nowhere near ready to settle down. But his brush with death and meeting Linden changes him.

It was a little hard to connect with Linden, but once we knew what was in her past, I could emphasise with her.

The one thing this book really lacked was a dual pov. I think it really needed it, especially when something awful happens to Linden, and we only know what's going on from her perspective. What was going on with Boxer? What was the club doing? I know Boxer shows her the aftermath of his emotions at that time, but we needed it badly. When she was found by Mia it almost came across like they hadn't even known she was missing!

This author doesn't hold back from injuring or killing off characters, which is very sad, as I like all the guys in the MC, but it packs an emotional punch for the reader.

I'm definitely looking forward to more from the Blue Angels.

Love the sly humor, the nicknames, the road names, and the opposites attract situation central to the story. And the whole “found family” aspect of the motorcycle club. The story eventually goes somewhere that is stunningly violent. Believable, and important to the story, but seriously uncomfortable for me to read. I guess that means the author did a really good job, but I’m not sure it’s my cup of tea.

I tend to avoid reading MC stories, but I enjoy this author so got this one on a freebie deal. So glad I did. Wow, what an intense, roller coaster, running the gauntlet of emotions. Loved the characters, loved the story.

Damn that was painful. Linden and Boxer were an interesting couple but seeing what she was put through definitely makes me wish there was a content warning on this story.

This story really gripped me. It was well balanced between the romance, the sex, and the actual plot. It got real dark real quick for a moment there, and the fact that it actually turned my stomach suggests how well the author did. Really enjoyed this novel, I think more than the first.

CW: Graphic torture, Female assault, many other things I've tried to black out.

I loved Boxer in the first book and I loved the story and that it was just dark enough without going too far in the first book so I was super excited about this one. That quickly disappeared, it was MUCH darker than the first book and we didn't really have a lot of warning that it was coming, but before I get to that ....

I don't understand the father bit. He keeps trying to get ahold of her, etc etc but we never really find out why and it seemed like a really weird subplot when she said it basically was out of nowhere for him to call her. I also expected a bigger issue with both the old job and the ex-boyfriend. Basically I feel like there was a lot of subplot going on in Linden's life but it all didn't really matter in the end. I honestly thought her father was the reason she was grabbed after all the lead up so I just don't know how I feel about all that. And her boss being nice all of a sudden was such a weird change that was never talked about after that.

I also really hate that she strung Boxer along. It's obvious the guy is crazy about you - don't lead him on. I get questioning if you want to get involved in all that stuff but she went above and beyond that. Basically Boxer deserved much better than her.

The whole kidnapping bit was out of nowhere to me. They talk about taking on the Cartel but it never really seemed like she was in danger from them until they grabbed her. And why grab her instead of Mia? The fact that everything happened without warning and then we had to basically live through it with her was too much for me. That whole storyline really didn't work for me and neither did the guys going after the Cartel. And make Dante feel the fear his victims did, don't just be like "I'm giving you morphine" then "JK" right after the injection. That was too good of an ending for him.

This also is a book that would have been A LOT stronger as a duel POV. There was enough going on that we needed to hear Boxer's side for the book to be complete.

I had really high hopes for this series but I have to take a long break after this book because it literally gave me nightmares the night I read those darker scenes. I'm honestly really gunshy after the last half of this book - especially as someone who doesn't like truly dark storylines - and am afraid to move on to any of the others because I'm not sure if I'll be getting a story like the first one or a story like this one that not only is dark but has a very unlikable FMC.

Okay, I love all things Sons of Anarchy and Motorcycle clubs, so I was excited to read this book.

The way Boxer and Linden met was really sweet, she did save his life, and so he wanted to make it up to her in multiple ways. I don't think he expected to fall for her nor her him. But they did and quickly became a couple.

I just felt like they had way too many differences, and even though opposites attract I don't think they were that compatible.

After Linden finally started opening up, getting comfortable in their relationship, she gets kidnapped by a cartel who wants revenge on Boxer. She puts up a fight with the two men, but ends up captured and locked in an abandoned jail for days. She gets tortured, abused, and if it weren't for the doctor, she probably would have died.

When she ends up at Mia's bar, and then wakes up again in the hospital with the prospective of never being a doctor again her only emotion is anger. She kicks Boxer out of her hotel room, but he doesn't leave the hospital the entire time she's in there.

Of course, she ends up forgiving him and taking him back. He promised her revenge and that she'd be the one to take care of the man who tortured her for days. While Boxer and the guys are in Mexico, Linden and the rest of the MC family goes to cabins in remote Louisiana to stay safe. When the guys get back, its revealed that one of the guys died during a fight, which in turn makes his wife pissed at Linden.

Rachel, the wife, ends up lashing out at Linden and blaming her for the death of her husband and leaving with her children to go back to her hometown.

I just didn't get a lot of emotion out of this book, I thought Id love it but I just liked it.
