The battle in the heavens has left a target on Lindon’s back.

His most reliable ally is gone, the Monarchs see him as a threat, and he has inherited one of the most valuable facilities in the world. At any moment, his enemies could band together to kill him.

If it weren’t for the Dreadgods.

All four are empowered and unleashed, rampaging through Cradle, and grudges old and new must be set aside. The Monarchs need every capable fighter to help them defend their territory.

And Lindon needs time.

While he fights, he sends his friends off to train. They’ll need to advance impossibly fast if they want to join him in battle against the kings and queens of Cradle.

Together, they will need power enough to rival a Dreadgod.

Years ago, Lindon left his home as a powerless Unsouled. Now, he goes to war with the most powerful beings in the world over the future of Cradle itself.

The Weeping Dragon has a grudge to settle, and Lindon intends to take out the Dreadgod with his friends by his side. But rival Monarchs know his plans, and they won’t let things end so easily.

If Lindon does win, he will ascend to the heavens. But he may not find a safe haven there either.

In the worlds above, Suriel and Ozriel face off against the Mad King to determine the new shape of the cosmos. The victor will decide the fate of countless universes.

Whether he wins or dies, Lindon will soon leave this life behind.

The time has come to say goodbye to Cradle.

Top reviews from the United States

Self published fantasy series fill Amazon kindle's listings, they all have four or five star reviews, and the level of quality within is.... What to do? Well I have no idea, what to do long term. But in the short term, buy the books in this series, and have some fun reading them. They are fast paced well written and you are unlikely to regret your purchase. If you have kindle unlimited , then stop reading this review and start reading unsouled this very instant.

The self published fantasy genre has come to fill the kindle unlimited listings, you generally gut unpolished action based western fantasy with cardboard characterizations and predictable plots. They all have high ratings despite poorish quality. But there are some gems that jump out of the overall fanzine/literary magazine level dross. Some appear out of nowhere, others show up after the writer polishes his craft in with multiple lesser efforts made possible by this new media profit stream available to writers.

This series is one such precious diamond in the rough, or 5 such diamonds, at this writing. It is of the developing author type, the author having nearly 10 other fantasy novels available for purchase and subscription, all of which are worth checking out. But this series is just wonderful.

It is a Xianxia based fantasy, which if you are unfamiliar, is a Chinese genre based on the wuxia wire work kung-fu movies. This saves it from the unceasing dread of meeting elves, dragons and undiscovered true heirs to the throne, even if you rather like those things, and let's us enjoy the fun in an unabashed journey thru power progressions and frenzied battles. If you liked "Big trouble in little China" or Naruto, or "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", you will be in semi-familiar territory. If you hate all of those things, then I don't know what to say, you have bad taste, they are all pretty good.

Anyway.... This is the beginning of a likely 12-14 installment series. We follow young Lindon of the Wei clan as he makes his way into a world he is an outsider in, the least powerful person in the tiniest corner of a huge and dangerous world. It is not a shock when he is forced to strive to be among the titans thru hard work and Kung-fu.

There are young adult elements, coming of age elements, and we slowly discover that there is a sci-fantasy backdrop driving the overall plot that affects but does not take center stage in the stories. None of these are paramount, as much as we want to see who Lindon will take to the ninja dance (there have been no ninjas or dances so far) the story is still centered on combat and spiritual advancement. Spiritual advancement is of course accompanied by the ability to kick ass, as it should be in the real world.

As an aside, I wonder if it is not horribly offensive to some devout Confucians that we compare meditation practices for their abilities in ritual and battlefield combats. I have no idea, but I give anyone permission to write fantasy novels based on western spiritual practices. Assuming Atlas Shrugged does not count.

So read the damn things. If you have Kindle unlimited, you have no excuse not to. And if you don't and you don't enjoy Unsouled, I will loan you a kindle title in recompense if you can track me down. But you are probably dead to the good things anyway

If you get past the 7th chapter of book one odds are good you will be hooked and binge read this series. I highly recommend the audio book version as well because the reading of the story is perfect. In book one you feel like you know where the story is going and what to expect then the world view shifts and it is a fast and fantastic ride after that. This series is appropriate for kids too, which is pretty hard to find in this genre these days (no X rated sex scenes). The character development is excellent and engaging. It is one of VERY few series that I have read more than once. I can't wait until the final book coming later this year!

The series starts slow but becomes stronger with each book. There’s character development but it’s casual fun reading all the way through. This is not like the epic fantasies where the world is way too complicated. Every book is fairly contained with specific plot lines. Author is very self aware and doesn’t engage in boring tropes and if he does you’ll see them coming. Nothing that will get eye rolls.

But the best part is the dynamic between the MC gang and how they value each other. Wholesome af.

Disclaimer: I only got through 56% of book 2. Reviews of further books in the series give me no reason to believe there is hope for this story, but I could be wrong.

Title says it all. This is a cultivator story in a might-makes-right world where the only thing that is as important as your personal strength is your pride (the "I'm better than you" sort of pride). There is 1 instance of overt selflessness in the first book and, if you look very closely, the village elder and MC's sister may have some potential. The reader may be tempted to cling to the budding friendship between the 2 main characters of the 2nd book as a potential romantic interest, but, from what I've read so far, it's a fairly mundane and self-serving sort of relationship on both sides.

This is my 2nd time trying to slog through this story and I only gave it another try due to the high pedestal so many others have placed it within this genre. I give 2 stars because the author did generate an interesting world and system, which is no small feat. It would have been 3 stars but, despite the main character's hard work, he seemed to survive on luck.

6 books of investment only to have it ruined, utterly, by the writer for cheap plot twist points. I will never read another book by this author and will make a point to rate everything he has and will release as one star, only because there is no option for me to give less.

This has become my all-time favorite story from my newfound favorite author. I just read a review that was only 2 stars, that admitted immediately that they only made it through about half of book 2. To them, amd everyone else, I say: stuck with it! The change is that much more appreciated when you look back to see how far the characters have come from their extremely humble beginnings. I will be sad to see the Cradle series end. But having just finished the new book by this author, I am confident I have more to look forward to!

From the beginning we are shown a main character and are given a deep window into the very core of his nature.
We are shown his hopes, dreams, and fears and we are told "for better or worse this is who he is". Ever so slowly we begin to love this character, for me it has been like watching an old friend finally come out of there shell and start collecting what they're due from the world. Time and time again we watch him overcome adversity and succeed when the odds were stacked so highly against him.
Then we see him fall and that is where, in my opinion, the skill of the writer truly shines through! Gone is the illusion of the shining undefeatable hero and before stands a man who has the scars of a hard fought journey and the will to press on.

This isn't a book for everyone to be sure, but if you can truly appreciate what it takes to carefully develop not just one unique character but a whole universe, then you will enjoy this writers work.
