I bought this mostly for its variable feature and the great reputation of Ridgid power tools. I can safely say I was not disappointed. The first time I used it I restored the rounded corner of a long counter top in my shop which I had damaged testing a nail gun. This sander has enormous power and a solidity normally found only in larger belt sanders. It's more powerful than one of my 3 X 21 inch belt sanders and a whole lot lighter and easier to manuveur on a vertical surface. I've come to appreciate these smaller belt sanders over the standard 3 X 21 inch belt sanders because of their added convenience. I've tried two others besides this one, Makita, and Skil, and like this one the best. Price wise this was the best value, as the Makita was the same price but wasn't variable, and the Skil cost about half as much, but had some tracking issues. The variable Makita 3 X 18 inch belt sander was more expensive. Ridgid is tops for delivering consistent quality, which to me includes the long, lighted cords. With Ridgid you can count on their high quality no matter what tool you buy.

I was surprised by how nice this belt sander is, esp for a re-burbished item. This was a steal for$81. It's very solid, good weight, nice grips, and very powerful. The automatic centering works perfectly and makes it worth buying this sander alone. The ergonomics make it very easy to maneuver around for rounding off edges or really working an area. Make sure to read the manual! It is critical that you don't put any weight on it...and you really don't want to anyway. This thing sands the wood as hard or gently as you want by working the grain and pulling the sander toward you. I sanded down a 12'x12' hardwood floor with 50-grit, 80-grit, and 120-grit. Then I sanded down the top and seats of a picnic table to smooth it out, remove spurs, and round off all the edges with 80-grit and 120-grit. Worked beautifully for all of it.

I have no beef with this grinder - it is quite powerful under more pressure than you should reasonably put on a belt sander, tracks fairly well, has inexpensive belts available, and is comfortable to use. I would buy it again if I had it to do over, but I wouldn't buy it from CPO. The sander arrived filthy, covered in sawdust and swarf. It seemed that they didn't even have time to blow it off with an air nozzle when they got it back in, let alone be bothered to actually recondition it. Granted it worked, but a little offputting when the sander arrives with no packing material dropped in the bottom of a box two times too large, all filthy and greasy. Prior user must have had some really dirty hands when he was using it. If I had to rate CPO I would give them a 1 star rating just because it saved a few bucks, and give the sander itself a solid 4.

if you are carpenter or serious wood working hobbiest you know that a good belt sander is a must for your collection of tools. I have always been fascinated by the many things you can make with wood. when I retired 20 yrs. ago I decided to try my hand at making furniture. I had no idea of what tools I would need. after a table & miter saw. I realized I needed a sander. I bought a cheap belt sander & to be honest it gave me years of service. recently it started chewing up belts & had no belt adjustment, so I fired up my old computer & began looking. the ridged zrr2740 18 inch sander caught my eye. I know the ridged product to be of good quality & so I began checking prices. amazon came up the winner. the sander arrived on time & in good condition. it is quite a bit heavier than my old sander & this normally translates to better quality. it is compact, has a very useful speed control easily reached while sanding. next is the great part. all of you that have used a belt sander know that flush sanding to an edge cannot be done with some sanders. this sanders belt adjustment allows you to roll the belt to the very edge of the sander. I have found this to be very useful.

Ridgid is quickly becoming my favorite brand of power tool! The product I received had a few nicks as expected for a refurbished powertool but did not appear freshly used or dirty as others have reported. I understand that refurbished products cannot carry the lifetime warranty of brand new items, but the money saved and the limited warranty that comes with it is still pretty satisfying. Performance wise this product is hard to beat. It has a circular adapter that fits standard size shop type vacuum hoses and I have not had to adjust the automatic belt alignment. I only experienced belt slippage once and that was my fault due to pulling to hard perpindicular to the belt rotation... the sander quickly realligned the belt and continued on as normal. The adjustable speed is an added bonus and great for controlling the sanding rate. The slow start also helps you maintain control. At full power be careful not to let the sander get away from you, it packs a punch.

Great sander. I bought this reconditioned and it came looking like new. A few little scuff marks here and there but nothing worth sending it back. I used it for the first time and was really impressed.
People have said that its underpowered but it does the same job as a more powerful B.Decker that I have.
Belt tracking is spot on, It never moved over like my B/Decker which drives me crazy. Dust collection is perfect. Its not that heavy and seems well made and as for noise its quieter than others I have used. So far I love it and for $58 is well worth it.
Also th belt that came with it did not break after an hours worth of sanding, unlike my B/Decker which eats belts.

Me decepcionó un poco. El precio del re acondicionado es casi igual que la lijadora de banda skil nueva y la verdad la skil la supera por mucho, la banda es más ancha y largo y tiene más potencia. De saberlo, hubiera comprado la skil, pero como la ridgid nueva cuesta mucho más que la skil, pensé era mucho mejor y no, ridgid es más marca que desempeño, al menos en esta herramienta.
