Amazon Warehouse deal came through, great monitor.
5 Stars
Amazon Warehouse deal came through, great monitor.
Great monitor, I bought this monitor to replace my VA monitor which suffered from extreme black smearing and ghosting. Heard that IPS panels are much better when come to the ghosting problem, but there are only a few options for an IPS panel ultrawide 1440p in $300-$400 (AOC, MSI). The MSI one is 40 inch which is way too big for my desk and only run at 155hz. The AOC only run at 144hz. I really wanted this monitor because it was the right size and run at 180hz but $700 is out my price range. First, I decided to give the AOC a try as Amazon had a "Used - Very Good Condition" for $225. It arrived with 4 cracks on the screen. I returned it immediately. I read on reddit that used items from Amazon warehouse is really a gamble. I looked at the listing for this monitor again and saw a "Used - Acceptable" with no descriptions what so ever for $333. Less than half of the original price and since you can always return and get your money back within 30 days. I gave it another try with amazon warehouse used items. This time I got practically a new monitor. Immediately i plugged in and ran all the monitor test, no dead pixel, no bleeding, no uniformity problem. So I thought okay, there must be some cosmetic damages or something....So I looked hard and....nothing. I was so surprise. "Acceptable" is suppose to be worse than "Very Good" condition. So I am more than please with what i got.On to the monitor itself. I don't really know what to say other than that it is a great. It is a huge improvement from my VA monitor. No more black smearing, but still just a little bit of ghosting when running the UFO test...but you have to look hard to notice it. Overdrive setting on "Normal" is the best, setting it to "Extreme" and you will get overshoot. I learned that it run 144hz at stock. The advertised 180hz is an overclock setting. Some people say running your monitor at overclock setting will reduce its lifespan and some people say it doesn't. So it is a mix bag. Speaker on these are meh, but I got my own speaker and headset. The monitor stand on these are great. Very study and well built but i wanted to VESA mount it. And unlike other ACER monitors where there is a button to release the stand from the monitor, I was dumbfounded when come this monitor. I had no idea how to do it and no instruction in the manual either. Had to look up online for the instruction for another Acer monitor with the same stand (Acer predator x34). You had to force pry open the back plate with a flat head screw driver first to expose the four screws that hold stand in place. One thing to know is that IPS is not that great with display deep dark black color. That is the one thing that VA panel is great at. Black color on this panel appear like more of a dark grey, but this appearance of the dark grey for black only really noticeable in really dark room with no lighting. Another thing to mention is that USB hub on this monitor will use the USB C connection by default. I tried to use it with a USB B connection but it didn't work at first. I thought my cable was bad, but it turned that you need to manually select the connection in the monitor system menu setting.Overall, I really like this monitor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great monitor but I had to return
Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2024
I was trying to find a productivity + gaming + multimedia all-in-one solution, and this monitor fits the bill perfectly.

+ Very large at 38 inch diagonally. It really fills your entire field of vision and has amazing visual impact
+ 1600P is a step up from 1440P. Typical 21:9 ultrawides only have 1440P and it's really limiting. This one you can fit more vertically - good for browsing and productivity. HOWEVER pixel density is about the same as 34inch 1440P, so y ou are not getting sharper texts, just larger texts with same sharpness as a 34inch 3440x1440 monitor
+ USB-C one-cable solution for charging and video output from Mac and Windows. This was crucial for me and still not that common in 2024. By "that common" I mean like 90-100% of modern monitors should have it, but reality is about 40%.
+ Great image quality - for what it is, being IPS and Acer.
+ High refresh rate - very buttery smooth. Even just browsing and typing feel better.
+ Very loud speakers (decent quality, but definitely got volume)

I played a couple games on it and the result was amazing. Same as movies that are in 21:9, there's no black bars then and it looks really awesome. Even backlight even in dark/black scenes.

Also looked at some spreadsheets and wrote a couple documents, no problem. Workflow feels super fluid thanks to high refresh rate.

However, in the end, decided to return based on below factors:

- Feels cheap. This feels like a $300 monitor, not $800. Just the plastic, the thick and bulky look, the feel of the buttons.... etc everything just feels so cheap.
- See last photo I posted - the plastic around the button are all rubbed out. I bought this brand new and it came out looking used.
- Cumbersome stand that pushes the monitor far out front. I have 55x28 desk, and this monitor makes my desk feel very shallow. A monitor arm is recommended, but then you are looking at another $200 for a robust enough arm to support this monitor's weight.
- Type-C port inconsistencies... For example, when plugged into my Legion 5 Pro's rear C port (there's 1 C port on left side and 1 C port on rear), the monitor would make audible high pitched electric noise, but is dead silent when plugged into the side C port, as well as my MacBook.
- Low pixel density.

Bottomline is, for $800 you are getting very low pixel density, same old IPS technology with nothing special. Though this configuration is rare, it's not especially amazing. It's not sleek slim edgeless, it's not Quantum QD IPS like the MSI Optix, and definitely does not compare to QD OLEDs. And 34-inch 4K QD OLEDs are under $1000, 240hz and has USB C. So it's really difficult to justify this at $800.

IMO either get a $200-300 4K monitor or go for the $1000 4k QD OLEDs for monitor. Or just get budget monitor and get a 65-inch WOLED like LG C3 or Sony A78Ls when on sale. Would be much better than this $800 stuck in the middle of the line thing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great feature packed monitor with USB C and high refresh rates.
Reviewed in Canada on September 18, 2020
Excellent monitor for the price. The ultrawide sweet spot imo is at the 100hz refresh rate as it's harder for most graphics cards to keep the frame rate above 100 in most AAA games these days. Plus the jump from 60->100hz is definitely more noticeable than 100->144.

IPS display provides excellent colour accuracy and the backlight bleed is minimal. Also with the fact that this monitor has USB C with power delivery means I can use it with my laptop for work and keep cable clutter down! One usb C cable provides power, video and USB hub functions which is amazing! Only gripe is that it's a bit more involved to switch inputs (have to click a menu and use the joystick to select another input and click again instead of the one button toggle found in other monitors).

Other pros:
- VESA mount (and if VESA mount is not needed the included stand is very stable)
- LED underglows - if you like that kind of thing
- Slim bezels
