    Product Description

The Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor Bundle is a perfect complement for the editor on the go. It interfaces with macOS or Windows editing systems running DaVinci Resolve, providing you with keyboard shortcuts and controls that speed up your editing, compared to using a mouse to navigate your edit system. The Speed Editor is small enough to take with you on location, and its built-in battery allows you to use it via Bluetooth for a wire-free connection. The Speed Editor can also connect to your computer via an included USB Type-C cable in case if you want to work hardwired, and the USB Type-C cable also charges the keyboard. The Speed Editor features dedicated push buttons that control the edit modes, timeline navigation, and effects of DaVinci Resolve. Additionally, these push buttons provide shortcuts to useful features available only on the Speed Editor. The built-in Search Dial is similar to the jog wheel often found on professional edit decks, but in conjunction with the push-button keys and DaVinci Resolve software, the search dial is much more powerful. Paired with the Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve 17 Studio is a major release with over 100 new features and 200+ improvements. The Color page features new HDR grading tools, AI-based magic mask for targeted grading, and a color warper. Fairlight provides a faster workflow with updated mouse and keyboard edit selection tools. Fairlight also has a next-generation audio engine and busing architecture with support for editing 2000 tracks in real time. Box Contains Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor USB Type-C Cable (4.9') 1-Year Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve 17 Studio (Activation Card) Activation Code

Finally using the Cut page in Davinci Res.
    4 Stars
Finally using the Cut page in Davinci Res.
Background: I am a director who also shoots and have through experience become an advanced editor. I have a BS degree in Digital Cinema. Meaning I've been editing consistently since before Final Cut 7. I've used Sony Vegas, Adobe Premiere, FCP and even a few oddball NLE's over the years. I've owned 4 BMD cameras so I am using DR Studio. I dove deep into Davinci Resolve in 2020 to edit a feature film I wrote & directed. I hoped editing in DR would save the Colorist some time although I hadn't done much more than short videos before that. I was using a beta version of DR. Consequently, after editing for months I learned the DR keyboard shortcuts, customized some hotkeys and became pretty quick. I am now at an 80/20 split between keyboard and mouse when I am editing.Purpose: When DR added the CUT page I tried for a while to get into it; the idea of speeding up my editing was very attractive. It never really worked for me although I've learned / transitioned multiple NLE's. But I didn't have the patience for it after a numerous tries. NOW, I have a lot of videos to edit for clients, a documentary feature, and it's all hitting at once, Q4/ end of the year .Purchase: I bit the bullet and bought the "Speed Editor" hoping something could save me. The device came overnight by 11am. Good start! I watched a pretty thorough 20-30 minute tutorial on YT that laid out the basics for using the Speed Editor with the Cut Page which is the purpose of its design / use case. I've been editing on it for 3 days now. I even took it in the car for a 4hr road trip to edit in the back seat on a laptop.REVIEW:Hardware: It feels well made, has old school tactile punchy keys, the shuttle wheel is as professional feeling and smooth as mentioned by others. It has to be charged up enough to kick in the bluetooth functionality. That took about 20-30 minutes. It comes with a long (2-3 feet) USB-C cable making it easy to start working right out of the box, it still works as it charges. It doesn't feel or behave like a cheap piece of hardware. (UPDATE: even after a small 1-2 foot drop onto cement it still works with only a few small scratches. So it's seems fairly durable, but I wouldn't drop it on cement again. The hollow plastic sound of it landing on cement made it clear that it doesn't have a rigid metal body. )Software: HERE'S THE GOOD NEWS. The Speed editor REALLY makes the DR Cut page fun and useful and much easier to use. You can review and navigate through footage to assemble a timeline of selects really quickly, and even the trim edits are a little more fun and but not necessarily faster than my hotkey method. I haven't used the multi cam functionality yet but I think it will be faster than the Edit page for that too. It has plenty of basic editing functionality for assembling a rough cut in the DR Cut page but it doesn't seem to be great for the Edit page. Although there is some functionality that is nice there too. If none of that makes sense, don't worry about that, it comes with a key to the latest version of Davinci Resolve Studio. (18 for me). I had it already but if you want to step up your initial editing process or be able to assemble short form videos faster, like for Social media or something, then this is worth it if you have a lot of video content to create quickly. It makes the hyper advanced app Davinci Resolve, a great option for simple basic editing for non-professional hobbyists and you've got no subscription fees. Combine this with the included DR-Studio and you have all you need to grow as an advanced video post production tool if you are willing to learn all that the app can do.Summary: I'm now using the Cut page a lot, and I am liking editing again. This is a simple device, that is easy to use and learn. If you have basic editing skills or even limited skills it will simplify and speed up the process of assembling your videos. I have already started to find unique ways to use this. This is really good for going through a lot of footage and assembling things. Not sure if it will work once you get into advanced fine cutting but it is pretty habit forming. It's exactly what I need to finish a project with lots of videos by the end of the year. I'm not sure if it will be "faster" than what I was doing already in terms of advanced detailed editing, but if it definitely seems to make assembly editing that you would pass on to a "Jr. editor" or "intern" quicker, easier and more fun again. The software that comes with it is taking over the industry in my opinion. If you are a REAL VIDEO ENTHUSIAST or professional, then this is well worth the price for saving you time and increasing your productivity. For example, DR can transcribe an interview., very quickly. Then you can search through that text document for a word like "conference" and with the speed editor quickly pull those portions of the interviews that are right for your current scene. That alone saves a ton of time sifting through interview footage by simply letting the computer search for the right words in the text document that it generates. And as the cursor goes to the spot in the document, the "source monitor" playhead goes there as well. So you can set in and out points and drop it in with this device very quickly. That particular workflow with the speed editor is much faster and more efficient than using the keyboard/mouse.I think this can pay for itself in in 1-2 paid projects with the time-savings and productivity-increase. Increasing your profitability. If you just want to make assembly editing more fun and faster this may be worth the money if you are familiar with DR already. it depends on if you have enough free cash to make the investment worth it for you, or if you have the time to learn Davinci before your next deadline. If you are a naturally slow mouse-based editor, stop reading and get your card out... you need this thing!
