Excellent read. Fast paced military sci-fi. This series keeps delivering an endless supply of action. The characters keep getting better with every read.

These two authors know how to write! There is a lot of quirkiness to several characters that is different and refreshing yet funny. The writing comes from the character known as Talker. He’s the one who tries to write their escapades down or explain things all in his “I’m gonna be a pro-writer, but who am I kidding, I talk too much thus my nickname and I write the same way. Oh!…and did I mention coffee?” kind of thing. Talker has a true problem of coffee love. Anyway , the whole thing is done really well by the book authors. So they write quirky that’s interesting and funny. They do humor and banter, especially military banter, really well, they lay the story down in a comprehensible manner and boy oh boy do they do action battles, details and intensity well. “Bigga bigga good” as Jibba, their orc pet project would say. This story has the sort of feel of a Lord of the Rings meets modern day weapons and Rangers who are bringing the beat down and taking no prisoners to this medieval setting complete with evil orcs, elves, giants, witches and so much more. But it’s the Rangers and their souls, their brotherhood, their fighting tenacity to never say never, and then it’s the getting to know their true selves—their loved ones, family, ex-wives, past hx as Rangers, all of that. It’s so good! Highly recommend this series to male or female who loves action, intense battles, humor and a little quirkiness to go along with the more softer, human side of characters. Gotta go! I’m moving on to read #6!!

You've got me thinking about running a d20 campaign in the same realm/context. Interested in the new hooks you have laid out for us.

The Book of Joe gives Talker a chance to tell the story of Ranger Sgt Joe and introduce verbal new characters of the ruin in another excellent read

Mike? What’s the pool on me up to right now? What’s it up to? What is it, three hundred dollars — is that it? Three hundred? I’m a school teacher. I teach English Composition in this little town called Adley, Pennsylvania. The last eleven years, I’ve been at Thomas Alva Edison High School. I was coach of the baseball team in the spring time. Back home when I tell people what I do for a living, they think, well, that, that figures. But over here it’s a big, a big mystery. So I guess I’ve changed some. Sometimes I wonder if I’ve changed so much my wife is even gonna recognize me whenever it is I get back to her — and how I’ll ever be able to tell her about days like today. Ryan — I don’t know anything about Ryan. I don’t care. Man means nothin’ to me. It’s just a name. But if — you know — if going to Remeal and finding him so he can go home, if that earns me the right to get back to my wife — well, then, then that’s my mission. You wanna leave? You wanna go off and fight the war? Alright. Alright, I won’t stop you. I’ll even put in the paperwork. I just know that every man I kill, the farther away from home I feel.

Once again, authors Cole and Anspach hit a grand slam in the Forgotten Ruin series. This book is a literal "coming of age" book for Talker. Sure, he's been there in the Ruin with the Ranger Task Force since the beginning, but he hasn't really been part of the them. It's like the difference between being "assigned" and "ADCON". Only now, he doesn't have a choice. He has to jump into the deep end. He has to Ranger Up or die. SGT Joe is his personal version of "teach, coach, mentor" for this expedition into the Heart of Darkness. Think of it this way, you have Gandalf trying to get Frodo to stop being a limp-wristed tosser and be the hero that the world needs him to be. Yeah, I'm not PC, deal with it. Never fear, there is action and violence galore to fit the most demanding of readers. New enemies and critters to kill at every twist and turn. I'm not going to give up any secrets, but there are some major plot twists in this book. Serious potential allies that can help in the war against the "Dark." Get this book and read it. You need this book in your life. The Forgotten Ruin series is what readers are crying out for. Fix Bayonets! RLTW!

A new favorite Author/Series finish the series. Great Sci-Fi/Fantasy mix story. Can't wait

I'm not sure if I really would want to go through all the training and serious hard work to become a Ranger or even do everything Talk had to do and did do to become a recognized de facto Ranger but I sure have gotten to respect the Rangers in this series. It is a delightful fantasy in this sci-fi world that just makes ya proud to be an American, living vicariously through these Rangers, at a time we need everything we can get to boost American pride. Thanks, guys.
I have to say that Sa'rnt Joe ripping off his Ranger patch and giving Talk the full regalia of a full fledged Ranger was one of the most poignant gestures I have read in a long while. You go, Sa'rnt Joe. Nice move.
Looking foward to reading book five.

I started this series whilst waiting no for a plane and have since spent the rest of the last year waiting for the next installments to be published on.
I'm
These are good books that have been well written.
I can't add much more. If you have read the previous books you know what you are looking at. If you are new to these then get over to book one and start in.
I just want to know what price had to be paid for lifting the curse.
