How Good Is Elixir Strings 80/20 Acoustic Guitar Strings?
Sat Scope
Product Description
Strum confidently with the same premium acoustic guitar strings that experienced players worldwide trust to keep their incredible tone longer than any other string available. Unlike other string brands, Elixir Strings coats the whole string. This protects not only the outer string surface but also the gaps between the windings where common tone-deadening gunk typically builds up in other brands’ coated and uncoated guitar strings. Anti-Rust Plating on plain steel strings ensures longer tone life for the entire set. Who wouldn’t love more quality playing time between the hassle and cost of string changes? Engineered to endure, these acoustic strings constructed with phosphor bronze wrap wire boast a dynamic balance of rich, full-bodied tone and sparkling high-end clarity. Compared to our original POLYWEB Coating, the ultra-thin NANOWEB Coating allows a more traditionally textured, “uncoated” feel. For a slicker, gentler feel, try a set of strings with our original POLYWEB Coating. The 80/20 Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings with POLYWEB Coating, for example, might be a good fit if you want a more robust and rounded tone. On the other end of the tone spectrum, our 80/20 Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings with NANOWEB Coating deliver a brighter, crisper tone alongside the same traditional feel as these phosphor bronze strings. Of course, the kind of string you play is all a matter of personal preference. Not sure what tone or feel is right for you? Try them out for yourself, and find your new favorite string from Elixir Strings. For a more in-depth look at what makes our strings so special, scroll to the branded info further down the page. Elixir Strings: Great tone. Long life.

I prefer the lighter strings and the ease of playing them, but you loose a bit of the fullness of the sound with a lighter gauge. These 11-52's are pretty comfortable to play, and the nanoweb coating makes them very smooth and easier to play. They are bright, full, round, great sustain, and loud. Awesome Strings. Period. I am VERY Happy with them.
I just can not get over the sound. I had a set of Martin 12-56's Phosphor Bronze on my Yamaha Acoustic before and i thought they sounded pretty darn good, but a little stiff and hard to play after playing my electrics most of the time. But these blow them away in sound and play-ability. I'm not saying Martin's are the best, but they're pretty good sounding, especially for the price. These are 3 times the price, but in my opinion, they just about sound 3 times as good.
I read that a few people received sets that they believed to be fake. I grabbed my multi-meter and checked them when they arrived and the set i received did not cause the meter to read as "open". They do if you press really hard with the meter leads, but i don't think that is a totally accurate measure of legitimacy. If these are fakes, they are still worth the price, lol.
I was hopeful because of the hype behind these, and since they are pretty dang spendy for a single set of strings. I hope that they last as long as they claim to last with the nanoweb coating. I just put them on like 2 hours ago. I had to write a review, just to share.
I will totally buy these again, and i will be ordering a set for a buddy of mine. They are so nice that i have to share the beauty.
I will update my review if anything changes.
I really hope they last 3 times as long as a typically set, being 3 times the price. That is my only complaint.
I met a musician who had been living here for years, who represents a major video game producer as a composer, who showed me his guitar and the first thing I noticed was his strings were SHINY. They looked brand-freakin'-new. And I commented: "You just restrung your guitar?"
He said no! He restrung his guitar like a year prior!! But how?! "Elixir's, man. That's the secret." Subsequently, he played a nice guitar solo.
I did my homework and got these strings in October, not expecting much. It's the last half of JULY and my strings still look freakin' new! They sound great, they play great. They feel slick on the fingers, which has it's pros and cons. Less string squeak, more grip needed when string bending. They don't gunk up and feel sticky after a gross accumulation of finger funk. Win-win-win in my books.
Overall they are amazing.
I got the phosphor bronze Elixirs for my 6 string acoustic, which sounds amazing; same for my 12 string acoustic, which also sounds incredible; and I have another Elixir pack (nickel plated steels) on the way for my 12 string electric (which feels unheard of).
These strings will definitely not last forever, but they will extend the life of your strings by a LOT. I like to play for many hours along the week, sometimes investing several hours in playing per day. I don't "shred", but I don't believe I play "soft".
These strings will last a long while, as long as you don't play with a cutting edge (i.e. fingernails or freshly stamped pick which edges haven't been sanded/filed) because once the thin plastic is exposed, these strings will lose their magic.
