Now That You Have Seen Me Kindle Edition
Not all families are loving. Not all relationships end in chaos. And, sometimes, reality is an illusion.
Following release from Havenhurst Hospital in Amherst, Massachusetts in June 2015, 29-year-old Farrah Glickman learns she has been placed under the guardianship of her toxic parents and in the care of court-appointed psychologist Bonnie Lowenstein. Two unproductive months later, after defiantly mocking therapy and growing increasingly unstable, Farrah reluctantly agrees to actively engage in the biweekly sessions, and her story (from earliest traumatic memories to most recent, out-of-control survival) begins to surface from the depths of her tortured psyche.
As she and Bonnie process the archives of her 29 years, heavy with the emotional baggage of a dysfunctional childhood and a series of very unhealthy relationships with men and just about everyone else in her life, Farrah cautiously reveals an emotional void she forever endeavors to fill with a protective combination of deflective humor, casual sex, alcohol in abundance, and Jesus hallucinations. All the while, her mental health is drifting further away, and the keeper of her well-being and safely guarded secrets laughs as she rows the boat into dangerous, uncharted territory.
Now That You Have Seen Me is the (sometimes dark, sometimes dirty, all times witty) story of Farrah's unforgiving, year-and-a-half long journey to the bottom of her soul and back again, straight from her own HUGE potty mouth.

The protagonist, Farrah, comes to life with all her flaws and complexities, making her a relatable and authentic character.
The story doesn't shy away from tackling heavy themes, painting a vivid picture of how childhood trauma can shape adulthood and relationships.
The prose is sharp and unfiltered, mirroring Farrah's candid and sometimes profane inner monologue. As readers accompany Farrah on her year-and-a-half-long journey, the storytelling keeps them engaged, often eliciting both laughter and introspection.
Overall, "Now That You Have Seen Me" is an enthralling read that navigates the complexities of mental health, dysfunctional families, and personal growth with an unflinching gaze.
A must read and highly recommended.
This is worth buying. It is also based in Boston and Massachusetts and I like stories which are set here.
The author describes the book as "somewhat dark, psychological mainstream fiction, bordering on chick lit (only because it is aimed more toward women than men), and may be described as Fight Club meets Bridget Jones’s Diary meets Sybil" and I agree with this assessment.
Overall, I did find it to be well written, and while it didn't bother me, there are definitely some dark themes as it touches on (view spoiler on my goodreads review), not so dark, but notable (view spoiler on my goodreads review) to name a few. There were some light humor moments that balanced out the story, though.
*Thanks to the author for sending me a copy of your book. I am voluntarily leaving my honest review*
Narrated by Farrah, the writing is raw and cuts no corners. It's a grisly look at what was a grim life to start. As well as being character-driven, there's also quite a bit of intrigue which I hadn't expected going in. Always a treat. There's a lot to unpack in under 250 pages.
Farrah is an interesting character study, especially in interactions/relationships with other people. I liked the contrast between her overall narration and her journal entries. Her reaction to this exercise also packed a wallop.
'Now That You Have Seen Me' is the epitome of dark humor. What a ride this was!
A huge thanks to the author for reaching out to me and offering to send a free copy to read and review! The book can also be found on Kindle Unlimited which is where I opted to read it.
