Gauss Greatness — Resurrected

Searching for classic Gauss Speaker Company 1970s-era speakers? Unfortunately, they’re not easy to find. Thankfully, the Avantone Pro Gauss 7 resurrects this celebrated brand, with wonderful sonic detail to boot. This top-flight active studio monitor vaunts a 7-inch, AC10-MLF-derived woofer with a familiar-looking white wood pulp/glass fiber cone, plus an AMT tweeter with a 65mm PET film folded membrane. Fire up a set of these studio monitors, and you’ll benefit from a pronounced snap, an excellent transient response, and an impressive 30Hz–22kHz frequency response. You also get incredible stereo imaging, an accurate midrange, and a super-wide sweet spot that's guaranteed to impress. The Gauss 7 includes powerful yet easy-to-use room optimization controls, ensuring that the Gauss 7 facilitates effective reference-quality monitoring in a wide range of acoustic environments.

Avantone’s white-cone woofer — with a few updates

Like Avantone’s AC10-MLF driver, the Gauss 7's 7-inch woofer boasts an attention-grabbing white cone made from wood pulp and glass fiber. This speaker’s pronounced snap and fast transient response are reminiscent of Avantone’s CLA-10, but with an extra dose of low end. The woofer’s motor structure vaunts low-carbon 1008 steel construction, which facilitates max-level magnetic flux density between the pole piece and top plate. What’s more, a Japanese-designed, unidirectional styrene-butadiene rubber surround optimizes the woofer’s excursion and power. This speaker also includes a rear-firing bass port for a tight, punchy low-end response down to 30Hz.

AMT tweeter yields high-fidelity, reference-quality sound

Thanks to its high-fidelity GAU-AMT tweeter, the Avantone Pro Gauss 7 yields incredible detail, with incredible stereo imaging. This Air Motion Transformer (AMT) tweeter produces a small vertical throw that minimizes unwanted room reflections. Beyond that, the tweeter’s 65mm polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film folded membrane ensures a transient response that’s second to none, courtesy of its low resonant-frequency qualities and low crossover point. You'll also benefit from exceptional high-frequency extension up to 22kHz. The engineers here at Sweetwater have found the Gauss 7 to be an honest-sounding speaker with zero hyped frequencies — it’s an excellent reference monitor.

Easy room optimization with acoustic tuning controls

If you’re like some of us here at Sweetwater, you’re mixing in a less-than-perfect space. That’s why the Gauss 7 includes easy-to-use acoustic tuning controls. A 3-position Acoustic Placement switch makes optimizing the speaker to your room’s boundary spaces a breeze; a 3-position High Trim switch compensates for additional room deficiencies. You also get independent Gain controls on each speaker for easy system calibration.

Absolutely incredible.

These speakers are essentially what happens when you combine and Adam A7V and a Yamaha NS 10 , modern rich detail and incredible low end. Best thing you will get in a pair of speakers for under $.

Like em so far theyre great!

Great for a small or medium room or near field monitoring. Its like Yamaha + Avantone + Adam had a baby these are those speakers~! I bought on zzounds but still get most my stuff from sweetwater!

Fantastic speakers!

Sweet sounding monitors. Smooth, balanced & cohesive, with a full rich sound. My other speakers are Focal Alpha 80's, which I gave to my son so he can listen to K-pop & play Fortnite.

I mix with Shure 1840 headphones, which pair well with the Gauss 7's. The headphones don't get very loud even with a DAC/ amp, plus I like using speakers when working on drums/ percussion. So the new Avantone's work well so I can hear the fine details in my mix at high volumes. I can also casually listen to music for hrs at a time.

Not a lot of reviews online for these, but I feel like they're some of the best value speakers out there- I'd easily pay double the sale price and still feel like I got a bargain. The last thing I'd mention is that they're not exactly neutral, but I plan on adding Sonarworks later, when I do more hard-core mixing.

In summary, Highly recommended! A++

surprisingly good low end and imaging

I own a pair of these, and was pleasantly surprised. For speakers of this type, the bass is surprisingly good and well extended, and did not at all feel like they needed a sub to be complete for casual enjoyment/listening. These speakers can definitely represent the low end and the top end is also very smooth and not ear fatiguing at all. They are the type of speakers you can listen to for a very long time, at good level, without wanting to stop. The top end is very smooth and kept under control; and must have a gradual transition in the crossover and a really tight dispersion between the two drivers because you really don't hear a crossover point or the 2 drivers individually.
I'd like to think of these as a great pair of speakers firstly and as good monitors secondly; that is to say what I am hearing is how I think a finished mix would sound when a customer is listening to the completed record on a good home system, and it sounds the way I want music to sound when I am listening to music for enjoyment/relaxation and don't want any sound to 'bite my head off', so to speak. In that sense, this speaker could be thought of as the third member of Avantone's family of purpose built reference speakers, starting with the Mix Cubes which let you do that 'alarm clock radio/mono/AM radio' self-check (and also to check midrange instruments like vox, snare, guitar without the crossover in the way), the CLA-10's which basically let you reference your mix on the legendary Yamaha standard of yesteryear, and now the Gauss, which gives you a great window into what your mix sounds like on a tight, polished hi-fi setup similar to what many listeners will surely have. And this makes sense, knowing the history of the original Gauss speaker line. Well done, and I'm very happy with them so far.

So Much Detail

These monitors are such an upgrade from my last pair. Incredible clarity and detail, and a nice controlled low end. I'm an Avantone fan and these monitors don't disappoint.
