Anti Villain by Outlaw published on 2018-12-04T15:38:53Z Anti villain... An introduction to Outlaw’s aesthetic this is a project that plays with duality, it’s dark and ominous tone contains a contrastingly positive message. With two singles released prior to the album, Lyrical Lemonade has given a nod to the impressiveness of “Sensei” produced by IceKream and King Leeboy, whilst “Paranoid” produced by Sidney Leroy has been chosen for the Official Rap UK Spotify playlist. Anti Villain as a work inverts the idea of the anti-hero with sonics that are dark, using the seemingly negative to convey something positive. This idea comes from Outlaw’s experiences in being prejudged for things outside of his control-- Things like attire, vernacular, skin tone and even one’s star sign. He poses the question that if a super villain had all the tools and one day decided to use them for something other than negativity, would we know what the outcome would be? Taking control of the public’s perception, he seeks to play with the established ideas of good and evil. Marked with a villainous aura, the project’s ingrained positivity is intended as a deliberate examination of humanity’s duality. Challenging the idea of labels and perception in choosing to take the name anti villain, throughout each part of the project the underlying theme is truth and love. Anti villain is the first installment of a series of projects Outlaw will be releasing in succession. Because of his broad vision in terms of delivering sonics to the public he felt that he couldn’t reveal it all at once. When asked why, he responded with, “regular villains always tell you the plot before they try to execute. But I feel like an anti-villain would be smart enough not to do that, you feel me?” By separating the vibes, moods, and feelings into different projects this allows listeners to appreciate and digest each mode of expression. Embracing multiplicity and the idea that people can have varied but authentic ways of being, a challenge he has frequently faced with his UK-American-Caribbean upbringing.
