The Last Vampire: Complete Series, Books 1-6 (Last Vampire World Book 1) Kindle Edition
That part’s bad enough.
But now, he’s trying to get out.
Growing up, my father always told me that I’d come to a bad end, just like my mom did when I was a kid. Hearing that kind of stuff when you’re little eventually gets to a girl, but I can’t say I ever expected my ‘bad end’ to involve an angry vampire with a severe case of iron deficiency and a panty-melting English accent.
Maybe I shouldn’t be surprised. Ever since my mother was assassinated, I’ve felt like there was something vast and frightening hidden beneath the fabric of the world. Something none of us are supposed to know about.
So far, finding out I was right hasn’t been nearly as satisfying as I’d hoped. I guess the trick will be staying alive long enough to shout ‘I told you so’ from the rooftops.
But before I can do that, I really need to figure out if the vampire who just bit me is one of the good guys or not.

About the authors
USA Today bestselling author R. A. Steffan lives in New Mexico, where the sunsets paint the mountains purple, and roadrunners roam the desert endlessly in search of their coyote victims. When she’s not busy writing stories about people loving each other in all sorts of different and interesting ways, she can be found taking care of her small menagerie of critters.
A rebel to the core, she is currently sticking it to the man by illegally harvesting graywater from the kitchen and bathroom sinks to water trees outside. This fearless disregard for societal norms extends to her writing, as well. There, you will find polyamory along with straight, gay, bisexual, and non-gender conforming love of all flavors. You will also find families of choice, profound friendships, adventure, danger, and good triumphing over evil.
That, and sex. Lots of sex. Most of which is not the vanilla variety.

Jaelynn Woolf is the mysterious co-writer behind the collaboration on the Circle of Blood and The Last Vampire series. Some say she never blinks, and that she roams the woods at night foraging for sexy vampires.
Others claim she’s wanted by the CIA, and she sleeps upside down like a bat.
All we know is, she’s called Jaelynn Woolf.

This is an entertaining storyline, both different and interesting. There’re actions without understanding, so lots of mystery.
A small coalition: Fae, demon, vampire, human, hybrid everything. Against another coalition: Fae, demon - with intent for extreme harm. Soul bond, Demon bound, salt, iron, immortality, 3 realms/potential war, hidden agendas, and a plan. The costs are high, and the rewards are life itself. Good! An almost anti-climatic conclusion….
Best quote: “…if humanity has proven anything, it’s that propaganda works. With enough time and resources, any group can be convinced to hate any other group.”

The world of The Last Vampire is quite nuanced: throughout the 6 books we are being taken on a rollercoaster ride that involves several trips around the human world, the Fae realm and even Hell. We're also being taken on car chases, motorcycle chases, boat chases and several quite explicit battle sequences. Would I, personally, have preferred to spend more time in the two supernatural realms and less in James Bondesque chases across the globe? Potentially yes. But like I said, this is a rollercoaster ride; you need to hang tight and know you'll end up in a good place in the end. You gotta respect a writer who can do thriller/suspense/fight sequences in such a way WHILE ALSO writing the hell out of the many, delicious romance scenes that may be taking place between the same people but are definitely not repetitive at all. Chapeau.
Now, for the characters. When I started reading Book 1, I had some misgivings about how fast Zorah, broke waitress with chronic illness and low self-esteem, falls for the "dark angel" Rans. But you know what? In the long term, it works just fine. The character of Zorah deals with real, human issues we don't quite see a lot in books like these, and in the end, all these issues contribute to who she's slowly becoming (no spoilers). And while Rans may originally be suffering from a case of "too perfect/too tortured" male protagonist, these two grow together quite nicely. I was afraid that reading 6 books in Zorah's first person POV would be a bit tiresome, but instead I found her refreshing. Especially when she got over herself a bit and became-hey, no spoilers.
Plus: as per usual in R. A. Steffan's work, many of the supporting characters are equally if not more fascinating. I would pay good money for an M/M romance between a certain demon of the first order and his demon-bound human magician servant... Or an enemies-to-lovers story between a certain shibari artist and a stuck-up Fairy... Just saying.
P.S. I finished this series too fast and now I can't wait to sink my teeth into Vampire Bound, that's taking place in the same world and features some of the characters we've already met.
To be clear, I am a huge fan of smutty books, but after 3 books filled with vivid descriptions, even I was skimming through the details of each sex scene. In addition to that, there were parts of each book where EVERYTHING happened, then longer periods where not much did. The pacing was way off and this series could have comfortably wrapped up in 3 books.
What I liked most were the characters, all of which amused me and irritated me at different points. I enjoyed Rans, Guthrie, Nigellus, Len, Edward, and so on. Zorah was an everyday gal who fell into some extraordinary circumstances and I think her view on things would be pretty normal for someone in that situation. She does some really stupid stuff, but it makes sense that she would in the context of the story so it worked for me.
I thought the plot was unique and interesting and even though things should have moved way faster, I did want to find out what happened next. Without that intrigue, I probably would have DNFd this series due to boredom (and almost did several times).
I will not read Guthrie and Vonnie's books because I'm afraid it would take me forever to get through them like this series. I do love Guthrie, but I can't do it, man. I'm glad I finished this series but I would only recommend it with serious reservations. Be prepared for a long reading slog if you do start it.
