This Transition Nylon-string Is Geared for the Stage

Electric and thinline players can have trouble adapting to the necks, nuts, and bodies, and actions of traditional nylon-string guitars. But the Yamaha NTX1 lineup seeks to rectify this awkward transition by blending mature plugged-in classical tones with precision comfort and playability for the stage. The NTX1’s slim nato wood body features a solid Sitka spruce top with an advanced undersaddle pickup system to supply satisfying plugged-in tone anywhere you play out — from the coffee shop to the club. The modern neck profile puts plenty of space between your palm and fingers to facilitate lead and chord work without cramping. You also get a slimmed-down 1-7/8" nut spacing for an easier transition between axes, along with a genuine walnut fingerboard with ultra-flat 23-5/8" radiusing to supply classic nylon-string phrasing and momentum.

Solid tonewood construction

The Yamaha NTX1 is built from premium solid tonewoods, including Sitka spruce for the top (an acoustic-instrument favorite here at Sweetwater), and nato wood, a mahogany alternative with nice natural figuring. This design takes advantage of the natural resonance of the woods to create a rich and memorable playing experience. Built by master craftsmen with the best woods available, you can be assured that this Yamaha nylon-string is every bit the purebred classical guitar it takes after.

Optimized bracing system

Yamaha’s team of luthiers delved deep into the science and art of bracing design when developing the NTX1. Through thoughtful experimentation and precise measurement, they identified opportunities to refine the NX bracing system, enhancing the low-end resonance of the instrument and drawing out more of the natural character of the selected tonewoods and qualities inherent to specific body shapes.

Onboard electronics

Your NTX1 is ready to plug in and play out. Its undersaddle pickup is powered by an advanced Yamaha preamp system, with onboard 3-band EQ to let you sculpt your sound from the stage. The NTX1 also features an onboard tuner, so you can leave your pedals at home.

Fantastic... minus the bridge

I love this guitar. Right out of the box it sounded amazing, gave both my roommate and I chills with the first string plucks. Only problem is that I received it from the manufacturer with excessive bridge height that needed to be addressed by a professional luthier (shout out to Mike Lull Customs in Bellevue WA) to the tune of about $. Not a matter of adjusting the truss, actual physical reduction of the bridge component. They actually described it as "XXL string height" whereas I requested medium low. The difference was enormous, I'm amazed at how limiting this single defect was. I've included a before and after photo for reference, all my friends I've shown have all been in disbelief.

I imagine (hope) this isn't standard for the model so much as varrys from product to product, but regardless I spent 3 years being held back by this. I would encourage anyone thinking about purchasing to reach out to your local *TRUSTED* luthier (sorry not sorry guitar center) to ask what the cost of a bridge correction like mine would cost, and budget accordingly.

Love this guitar, but damnit I shouldn't have to drop funds just to make it playable above the 5th position

Yamaha A Winner

This is my favorite go to for setting around and playing. I have a Gibson J-45 and three other nice acoustic. I find myself play a lot of the time on this when learning or just noodling around. Great for soft times. Stays in tune and when you need it it has the built in tuner. Electronics OK. Very satisfied. 40 yrs of picking and still find this just a little slice of heaven.

The guitar of a troubadour

This is the perfect guitar for the traveling singer and songwriter. Sturdly built and great sounding, it packs a punch. The oval action hole sounds great when the nylon strings are played with a pick like Willie Nelson. The onboard tuner is more accurate than the average Snark and it's brightness meter is just as navigable as the Snark's conventional gauge meter. The guitar itself is beautiful, with intricate tuning pegs and accompanying metal work, the black pegs give it a Regal look. The choice of wood on the fretboard and saddle is exquisite. Truly a guitar for Buster Scruggs or anyone wishing to best him.

setup sucks

I like this guitar, but out of the box i should have sent it back. The action was 1/4 of an inch at the 12th fret to high for a classic player. the action at the nut was the same. very poor. after getting the playability were i wanted it, it now play s well, the tone is very good electric or acoustic, very good tuners nice neck, the pre amp is also very good. i have light gauge daddario classic strings and they feel good and sound better than the mediums that came with it. These companies need to do a better job on the setups, not everyone is a guitar tech like myself. when i spend this amount of money it should play.if this guitar went though sweetwaters hands shame on them for shipping me a second rate instrument.
