A delightful read about the less fortunate in old London. Florence was raised by her grandmother and given a good life while the times allowed. Due to circumstances beyond their control, Florence and her grandmother were forced to leave the love of her life and a comfortable life working as a domestic. Working in the mill, risking her health and life, provided barely enough money to cover rent on a shabby one room, but Florence was determined to do what she could to care for her grandmother. But your past always catches up with you. Could her one friend really be a friend or have an ulterior motive?

I liked the strength of the women and their courage. Handling problems really made most of these people stronger. Some it destroyed. I like the way this author writes it is easy to follow. I would have liked more interaction with God, but that is just my thought.

I love this story. I loved Marcus and Florence's love story. I loved how they made each other feel. Then when they got separated, I felt so bad for them. When her grandmother passed away, I cried my eyes out. It was like I knew them all like I was right there with them. Jessica you did a fabulous job on this story. I can't wait to read another one.

This is a very good story about a young girl that is raised by her grandmother and had a hard time but the man she loves reappears and she has love

A well told story that takes you into this seedy part of London in a way you can feel the dampness of bricks and the fouler side of people's nature. Good against evil, trial, patience, hard work and sometimes good luck.

I loved it from start to finish, it's the kind of books that you can't put down. I am ever so happy that Marcus found her after all those years, and they lived happily ever after.

I enjoyed reading this story. Since I had previously read another story by this author I assumed rightly so that it would have a happy ending even though there were a lot of troubling things that went on in this story.

It portrays a Victorian England quite well. Has a heart rending story of how hard it was, for many of the working classes. Many women were regarded as possessions, unable to support themselves, or their children, without a man! Young children had to work to help pay for their keep. Their jobs, often dangerous. In this story a young girl was prepared to do anything to help her grandmother, appreciating everything she’d done for her, when her mother died so young, leaving her fatherless. As a grandmother myself, I could relate to Queenie not only trying to hide the truth to protect her, but wanting her to have a better life than she and her daughter had.
