Premium Hard Rubber Baritone Sax Mouthpiece from JodyJazz

Professional baritone sax players seeking an elite-quality hard rubber mouthpiece needn't look further than the JodyJazz HR* Custom Dark Series! HR* Custom Dark mouthpieces are constructed using the manufacturer's proprietary Chedeville rubber, which is softer than commonly used hard rubber. The result? Deeper, richer tone that is tailor-made for the jazz club. A unique rollover baffle tames shrill highs for a purer overall sound, made even better with a large chamber and bore for luscious sonic warmth. This free-blowing mouthpiece is also incredibly responsive to the user — players can shape their sound with ease to match whatever style and setting they're working with. And since each mouthpiece is play tested by one of JodyJazz's staff before leaving their doors, you can rest assured knowing your first mouthpiece will be just as exceptional as the next. When top-notch performance and a stellar sound are a necessity, enlist JodyJazz HR* Custom Dark Series Baritone Saxophone Mouthpieces for your performing needs!

Loving it!!!

I've been playing bari on a C* and a Berg 100/1. The C* has good tone, but I get buried by the low brass. The berg is loud but hard to control and tone quality is bad. After doing research on different mouthpieces I chose the HR Custom Dark 7. I didn't want a brash sound but I didn't want to be buried either.

So, it came in today. I took it with me to concert band to doodle on before we got started. I was prepared to take the next few months getting used to it, like I did with my Berg 25 years ago, and my alto Otto Link 20 years ago.

The mouthpiece was immediately playable though. In one night, I've found it to be very versatile. I can mix with the bass clarinets, and even play a low B and Bb piano. It gave me a beautiful tone, and was responsive to play delicately on Nessun Dorma. And it gave me the volume to mix, and even stick out from the euphoniums, trombones, and tubas on pieces like Dedicatory Overture and Prelude and Rondo. I was able to play with a beautiful round tone at fortissimo. Another beautiful thing about it, is I'm able to pull out all levels of staccato, from super short to lazy long. It also gives me a beautiful warm tone when I mimic a plucked string.

I know most people don't buy this kind of mouthpiece for concert bands, but it's versatile enough for it.

I can't wait to test it out in a jazz/rock setting. I can tell it's going to be good though, just from the bit of doodling I did warming up tonight.

P.S. I play on a student Bundy/Selmer from the mid-70s. You can tell it's been through a lot by all the soldering, and bore straightening it's been through. So, if I sound this good on this horn, you'll blow it out of the park in your newer, more contemporary bari.
Music background: 34 years in concert, jazz, and rock bands, plus busking. I play alto, tenor, and bari.
