Literally amazing, I spilled ramen juice on my original joystick and it fried the whole left joystick module piece and I for sure didn’t feel like soldering. This thing is legit dead on in the center and feels so smooth. I spoke to the company and thanked them, they’re literally so helpful/nice and respond quickly. A literal godsend, thank you guys again!!

The moduled Gulikit makes now are just plug and play, no soldering of the touch pads required, they're pre-installed and with the stick caps.

The short version: If you like the lightest resistance, most sensitive sticks you can get, these are worth it as a day 1 upgrade.

Feel wise, I have heard people say they couldn't really tell a difference. I can. The sticks are maybe 10-20% lighter in resistance to movement, so they feel faster and less sluggish than the (already very good) factory sticks. they're also noticeably more sensitive to very small inputs. I found precision aiming in FPS games DRAMATICALLY improved, I was more "gesturing" directions with the tips of my thumbs after setting the dead zones very small. (don't set them to full "zero", as they'll feel very nervous and twitchy just under the pressure of your thumb resting on them. I went with about 4000 on mine in the deck calibration)

You also don't need to know before you buy if you have an A or B model (you can find out in the settings but don't need to check before you buy these) because these just come with a switch on the back that toggles between A and B, so they're compatible with all decks. just check the stick serial number before you start taking it apart.

Install was a breeze. You need one small philips driver and a thin stiff pry tool (I had to use a metal one, my plastic ones weren't stiff enough) and just get an edge right in at the corner of the grip side of the shoulder buttons. Once you hear a satisfying "pop", don't run the tool down the side (it just won't work) but feel down until you get a "slot" in the body, insert the tool there, and pop again. Easy for a first timer, didn't leave a scratch on the case.

Just follow gulikit's guide on their website, all you can skip now is the soldering and cap replacement steps since they're included now, and make sure you flip the switch on each controller to set it to A or B mode (if you're absolutely unsure, go with B. A versions were just the first steam decks, but it's right there in the settings to check)

Before you close it up, calibrate them. There's a tiny button on the back of each stick module. Both of my sticks were at "zero" where they were slightly down and to the left. You correct this by pushing the stick a little bit further in the direction that it's errored (so for me, push slightly down and to the left) and then using your other hand, press the micro button on the back of the module, then release the stick. It took me 5-10tries to get it perfect for the left stick and one try for the right. It's a little fiddly, but should take under 2 minutes. You don't NEED to do this if you just set the deadzones larger, but it will feel less precise - it's not a defect with the sticks, your factory sticks were just calibrated at the factory, and you're doing what was done to it before it was boxed up.

Overall, I would say for the tiny price of $30, these are a noticeable improvement to my hands. I already use a gulikit king kong pro 2 controller and these sticks feel identical - very light, very smooth, very precise. The difference might be subtle for some, but dramatic for others. For me, it was dramatic. I like featherlight sticks and heavier hall effect sticks like the 8bitdo ultimate are not pleasant to me. The factory sticks of the deck were pretty superb, but there's just an extra degree of lightness and sensitivity that the gulikit sticks bring to the party, and I found it had a big difference right where I found the factory ones lacking - ultra fine precision aiming.

I was on the fence since so many people said they noticed no improvement, but I was in the mood to do some modding and I already knew gulikit made excellent stuff. And I'm glad I did.

Pretty easy to install. I wouldn't replace your OG thumbsticks unless you're having issues because they feel no different.

I have the LCD Deck and don't notice a difference b/w these and the stock joysticks. They seem just as fine. Hopefully the longevity is good.

Installing the sticks was a breeze, though calibrating both sticks with the back off was a touch fiddly. Thanks to another review advising running thumbstick_cal from console, I was able to get both sticks to the minimum deadzone value SteamOS allows. I'm not big on FPSes or the like without a mouse and keyboard, so I can't vouch for that side of things, but this is already a huge boost from having to set my deadzones up in the 9k range to avoid my camera running away from me in FFXV.

Obviously I can't speak on how long these are going to last since I installed 'em only a few days ago, but considering I'm still occasionally powering on my Dreamcast 25 years later with its original controller and no gripes, I think sticks built on a similar premise should hold up pretty well.

I ordered the updated version of these hall effects joysticks with the universal A/B variant switch. I have They arrived quickly and the physical installation went smoothly. I have been using them almost daily going on 2 months at this point without a problem.

I did run into an issue after they were physically installed though. Following physical installation, I encountered issues with calibration. The instructions linked by the manufacturer tell the user to press the calibration button on each joystick module with the steam deck powered on. This improved the center (0,0) location but it was always out of perfect center by about 10% on each joystick.

Further digging online found that there is a command line tool which needs to be run to correct the 0,0 position within software. From a terminal window in desktop mode you simply need to run the command "thumbstick_cal" and follow the prompts.

Upon doing the software calibration center was in fact CENTER and I was able to reduce the dead zones for both sticks to the minimum value allows in steam (2000). This has been a massive improvement over the 9500/11000 I had it set to with the stock sticks which have been getting progressively worse over the last 18 months.

At this point I think this is a no-brainer upgrade if your sticks are starting to degrade or if you want to prevent that from happening in the future. The installation was relatively pain free and once I found documentation to complete proper calibration and the sticks are bang on accurate.
