Meta went for aesthetics over function
UPDATE: I saw the item recently in store and it looked like a few of the issues I pointed out have been resolved. Upgraded to 3 stars. If you are looking for an expensive and aesthetically pleasing case, feel free to read no further - this is likely the case you want.If you interested in function, read on:Pros: The case seems reasonably hard and well made. It has a strap to carry to carry it. The Quest 2 fits in it as expected. It will fit the elite strap no problem. It is aesthetically pleasing in many ways.Cons: I hate the feel of the outside of the case. It feels like hard felt to me and when my fingers graze the case it’s like tying wet shoelaces. It makes me shiver and cringe. The zipper is hidden which is aesthetically pleasing, but I could never once get it to open or close all the way without the zipper jamming at least once. Meta has also tied the thinnest piece of string in the world to the zipper so when the zipper inevitably gets jammed, the string pulls right off. Then you have to replace it with something thicker/tougher because putting that tiny piece of string back on only means pulling it off again very soon. The inside has a tiny compartment at one end that fits the charging brick and not much else. If you do put something small in there (like spare AA’s) the case design has space between the compartment and the lid that allows those AA’s free access to the headset’s lenses. So you probably shouldn’t put spare AA’s in there. The middle section for the controllers where has a weird design that just about everyone will struggle with. I considered cutting out the diagram of how the controllers are supposed to fit in there and taping it inside the case for reference. Intuitive? No. And last, but certainly not least, the size of the case is quite a bit bigger than the Quest 1. Again there doesn’t seem to be a purpose other than aesthetics. The Quest 2 headset is actually smaller and I didn’t get any meaningful storage space inside the new case to warrant the larger size.Bottom line, I am returning it and getting a 3rd party case because I’d much rather have function over aesthetics. But that’s me. If you don’t care so much about function and love the aesthetics, go ahead and spend the $50. You won’t be disappointed with the aesthetics.
