About this item
- Victron Energy ArgoDiode battery isolators 160-2AC allow simultaneous charging of two batteries from one alternator
- Alternator energize input: Victron Energy new AC diode isolators feature a special current limited energize input that will power the B+ when the engine run/stop switch is closed
- Diode Battery Isolators allow simultaneous charging of two or more batteries from one alternator, without connecting the batteries together. Discharging the accessory battery, for example, will not result in also discharging the starter battery
- Victron Energy Argo Battery Isolators feature a low voltage drop thanks to the use of Schottky diodes
- All models are fitted with a compensation diode that can be used to slightly increase the output voltage of the alternator, this compensates for the voltage drop over the diodes in the isolator

I wanted simplicity and not to worry about killing my starter battery. So I wired this in and it works perfectly. There is some voltage drop as expected, but even at idle, it still shows 13.1V. Once my boat is at about 3K RPM, I see 14.0V (previously I saw 14.4v) still enough to charge the battery. I have upgraded all of the wire to 0 gauge OFC with copper eyelets which are soldered on and shrink wrapped. “The Big three” to minimize voltage drop and reduce resistance.
We played the stereo (two amplifiers) for about 4 hours this weekend and the starting battery was perfectly charged and ready to be used.
I have everything wired to the “house” battery’s and the only wire going to the starter battery is the actual wire to the starter.

With the engine running, the center alternator post read 15.6V. (It should be under 15V. I assume shorts/resistance in the isolator was causing it to put out too much voltage)
The house battery post read 15.5V.
The engine post read 11.2V.
Time for a new isolator.
I installed this Schottky diode isolator (very easy install), drove for an hour, and am happy with the new test results:
With the engine running, the alternator post now reads 14.78V.
The house battery post reads 14.48V.
The engine post reads 14.38V.
(Note: There's a few extra wires in the pic of my install, since I used the engine and house battery posts as handy power supply points for other things like high power headlights and dashboard usb charger and such)
