FROM FORMER GREEN BERET AND USA TODAY BESTSELLING AUTHOR JASON KASPER

For David Rivers and his team, the mission was supposed to be simple-retrieve a defecting militia leader and deliver him to CIA interrogators.

But nothing is simple in Yemen, where vast swaths of terrain are controlled by Houthi and Al Qaeda fighters. When they locate the asset, the team discovers why he has been deemed critical to their intelligence effort.

The defector has direct knowledge of the team's top target: Erik Weisz, the shadowy figurehead behind the most catastrophic terrorist attacks since 9/11. And as it turns out, Weisz is currently in Yemen, traveling through Houthi territory with heavy security.

As David's crew prepares for a follow-on operation to remove Weisz once and for all, they discover a web of contradictions. A sudden order to stand down leaves the unit questioning the motives of their CIA handler. With suspicious leadership and a deadly conspiracy looming, the team boards a military aircraft to infiltrate the most dangerous corners of a war-torn desert.

David is convinced it will be their bloodiest mission yet-and within hours of being inserted deep into the badlands of Yemen, he and his team realize they are pawns in an exceedingly deadly game of chess.

Follows the unbroken trend of these thrillers just getting better and better. One of the now-firmly established traditions of this series is zooming in to a different geographical hot-spot in every book, adding great detail and color about the region and its people. It's not a gratuitous side-tour, the books tightly integrate the regional peculiarities into the story-telling, and this book is no exception--dealing with the unique characteristics of the Yemeni terrain, the civilians, politics, culture, bad guys and fighting groups becomes life-and-death material for the team.

Meanwhile, all the great elements of the series are here, including the hugely authentic feeling combat details, the compelling crew of lead characters, excellent pacing, a modest amount of humor, great dialogue and overall sharp writing. On top of that, this book is a particularly important one in the longer arc of the team's story, and it doesn't disappoint on that score, either.

I enjoy Sci-Fi, survival fiction, military fiction, litRPG, hard fantasy, harem and detective thrillers. Nothing I have read except Stephen King comes close to Jason Kasper. No one would I trust beside Garand Thumb for detailed information of covert activities procedure. Every book is written like the best cliffhanger movies. His description, alliteration, insight, moral turpitude and humor of the dark comedy of warriors fighting for “good” is beyond compare. I’ve searched almost 50 military fiction books on Kindle so far and have yet to find anything close. If anyone knows an author that comes close, post a reply or review. I enjoyed the other series of David Rivers books but that’s crap compared to this series. He definitely convinced me he’s writing about what he knows, unlike certain popular Navy Seals books out there. Whether that is true, I don’t care. I learn more and have more enjoyment from this series than most of the swill movies coming out of Hollywood. This not Die Hard 12, this feels as real as it gets. Anyone found better, let me know please.

Highly recommend the entire series. Best read in order. Kasper has small unit tactics down cold. Makes it easy reading for all the Vetsout there.

What can I say? Jason’s thrillers are superb. In this one, David and his crack team accomplish the seemingly impossible task of neutralizing the globe’s most dangerous villain. At the same time, their new boss (replacing the old one who was ordered killed by the very same villain and not one David trusts), not only assigns the team to the task of capturing the villain, but fails to inform them of a second team she has assigned to the same task. Rescuing this second team now becomes mission number two for David, but is not one even the new boss knows about. There are a lot of twists and turns in the story and every page is an adventure. I can’t wait for the next one. It’s sure to be a winner and I’m curious to see how David manages to take on a new mission with his wife pregnant with their second child and David having promised to leave the project.

I have absolutely loved the David Rivers books since the very first story. Luckily, I do not have to wait long for another one. I try to take my time with each story, but it is damn near impossible. The characters, the action and the story begs you to consume it as fast as possible. Once again, I would love to see these stories and characters brought to life on the small screen. A streaming service would do well to develop this. There is plenty of materials for multiple season and there is no sign of stopping the adventures. Thank you for another excellent story and can't wait for the next one.

I'm not quite done with the book yet - I have to read it in spurts, and then give my heart time to recover. For a non-service member, reading Kasper's books have got to be the closest thing to being there - considering he WAS there, it makes sense. The characters continue to develop - I've read all the preceding installments - and it feels like getting back together with old friends. Great action, great accuracy in descriptions of equipment and movements - this must be what taking speed feels like - I really want to read it from cover to cover, but my old heart probably wouldn't take it! Bravo, Jason Kasper!

David River is back in Lethal Horizon the seventh book in the Shadow Strike series by Jason Kasper. This is one of the best yet in this series and some things will be revealed that you didn't see coming. The banter in the small group of warriors is one of the things I really like about these books and they travel all over the world on their missions. I'm stuggling to keep up with reading these books by Kasper since I started at the end and have to get all the old ones and catch up on the story. I will recommend the books and thank Severn River Publishing and Edelweiss for letting me read this advance copy.

Jason Kasper continues to best himself with each book! This story kept me locked in, not wanting to stop turning pages, but also not wanting it to end! Mr. Kasper has a great set up for the next book without a cliffhanger ending. I highly recommend reading this book, however I strongly suggest you start where it all began with “Greatest Enemy”!!!

At the risk of repeating myself (because I seem to say it after finishing each of Jason Kasper’s books), this is probably the best one yet.

From the dual stories at the start of the book to the hair raising action scenes (of which the author is becoming an absolute master), to surprises galore, to an ending that makes me await the next of David Rivers’ team’s mission, the field is full for yet another grand slam.

Much to my pleasure.

I’ve read everything Jason Kasper has ever written. Each book gets better. So many twists and turns, it’s hard to keep up. Certainly nothing mundane about this author. Just wish he could write faster. 😁
