Publisher's summary

A gorgeous new sexual awakening romance with sizzling first times, snarky British banter, and off-the-charts chemistry.

Life doesn’t always pan out as you expect. When it explodes in my face, literally, an old friend offers me a place to heal and a job renovating the kitchen of Burlington’s coolest wine bar.

V&V is a chill fest. Living above it should be a blast. But I’m not built to be a social butterfly. Not anymore. I’m a damaged man.

And I’m not its target clientele.

At least, I think I’m not until I come face-to-face with the most beautiful human I’ve ever seen. Joss is the new chef and my roommate. He has hair like spun gold, and it’s as pretty as the rest of him. Crystal blue eyes. Megawatt smile.

I can’t stop staring. Or thinking about him. He chases my nightmares away. And when he spots my crush a mile off, his solution to our chemical attraction blows my mind.

An experiment of sorts. Science. Is this sexual exploration or sex education?

Either way, Joss is only here for the summer. He’s leaving.

I can’t fall in love with him.

I can’t.

Shame my foolish heart never got the memo.

Wildfire is a heartfelt MM friends-to-lovers hurt/comfort romance in the True North world, with a brooding lumbersexual, a wild-hearted chef, sweet angst, and all the Vermont food. Content warning: contains mentions of depression, ADHD, suicidal ideation, and PTSD recovery.

love story involving real people and problems.

well written, and acted story. I love the intersection of two "damaged souls" who understand, accept and complement each other. I love how sweet, understanding and accepting all the characters are.

Story 8, Delivery 6

As other reviewers have indicated, this story is a great entry into the V&V universe. Unfortunately, the two, otherwise brilliant, narrators were not able to execute the delivery of Joss and Kai. The p.o.v. was hard to follow - who's speaking now? - and it detracted from a truly compelling story. I highly recommend the book, but maybe read this particular one instead.

Loved these two

This is one of my favorite authors. I enjoyed this sweet love story and watching their story develop. Much love for the excellent narrators as well. As I do with most reviews of Garrett Leigh books I mention that my favorite & many-times-read of her books is "Misfits", should anyone be looking for more from this author.

Wildfire by Garrett Leigh

Tropes/Themes:
-MM contemporary romance
-Friends to lovers
-Hurt/Comfort
-Disability rep (PTSD, ADHD, Tourette’s Syndrome)
-Dual POV
-Standalone (spin off of Sarina Bowen’s True North series)

CWs for death (graphic), trauma, flashbacks, mental health issues (specifically PTSD and ADHD), controlled substances (Xanax - name dropped often), suicidal ideation

Despite the heavy content material, this was a fairly low angst romance between two men trying to heal. This was much more character focused than I initially expected, which I normally don’t love in shorter books but actually enjoyed it here. Be sure do your own research on trigger warnings before going into this since this topic material won’t work for everyone.

Story: 3/5
Audiobook: 3/5 (I love Tim Paige but the narrators spoke at different speeds which was a little frustrating)
Length 6h58min

sweetest Love story

I really enjoyed this book so much. It was so sweet and the Dan and Tim narrated this book so so good. I highly recommend this book to everyone. I love books that have a struggle but no break-ups. So.may books find happiness then break up and we havento wait till the end for the make up but this book had some struggles but always moving forward to the HEA

Almost didn't finish

Story line was OK, but seemed contrived. For example the building collapsing. unnecessary, added nothing. Narration was awful, esp. Joss' London accent. Very hard to make out what he was saying. Never heard that garbled accent in London. Finished story bc I bought it, not bc I enjoyed it

Weird story transitions threw me.

I like the characters and the interesting challenges they fade with ADHD,Tourette’s, and PTSD. However, I can’t help but notice the diagnosis of ADHD seems to fall a bit short of explaining the severity of Joss’s behavior patterns. That was a bit disconcerting.

Their respective diagnoses played a huge role in character development, to the point that it felt to me that the writing failed to really smoothly propel the characters from one place/conversation/event to another. One minute there’s a meltdown in the kitchen and suddenly (with only a sentence or do of transition) we are in a completely different location with different characters, or with the main characters having decided to go do some activity together. They would decide to ride bikes home and I’m like, wait, where’d the bikes come from?

I had to back up and re-listen constantly to catch the explanation for their movement from one scene to the next within a single chapter. The writing felt jerky and abrupt a lot, focusing on internal dialogue and circumstances almost to the exclusion of making the movement of the storyline meaningful.

Will probably not listen to the rest of this series, or this writer again.

a mixed bag

There was something missing from this one. I think it was that there was too much intrinsic conflict and not enough extrinsic conflict. The characters were in their own heads way too much for it to be very compelling to read.

Low Angst. Great story.

This is the kind of book I love. Well developed characters and story line. Great writing. Great narration. Sexy. Lots of feels.

Definitely worth the credit.
